  1. Honestly, the same people that want to album to drop now will be the biggest complainers when the album doesn't chart well enough. I would like to hear the album as soon as possible, but it should be set where it can meet the most potential, and that might mean waiting until everything clears out.

Sorry but no album Janet had no part in producing or executive producing is gonna be below the 2 albums her daddy had her do and sing music she didn't wanna sing.

I perhaps DJ could be switched only because it would make decent lo-key project, but 20Yo and Discipline can at times sound like something  he daddy might as well make her sing.

But at the end of the day, I agree with some fans' take: She has no bad albums, some subpar ones, but no bad ones.

  3. I took a first time listen to Dream Street and let me tell you:

This is arguably Janet's most underrated album. I was bopping to so many songs on the album. It seems that the executives decided to try to up the tempo from the first album and I felt to paid off. It has less ballads and they aren't as strong (Two to the Power of Love is quite bad). But the dance number are definite bangers. Highlights for me are Can't Stand Another Chance, Pretty Boy and All my Love to You.

Dream Street is definitely not worthy of being a punchline. It's better than a lot of the urban contemporary music of that time, and it definitely showed strong potential. It would put it 7th, above Damita Jo, 20YO, Discipline, the debut. There was at least somewhat of a concept that the executives committed to.

Opposite. LAMBF and FY are snoozefests. Those two and CGYLTM are the only ehh tracks. Everything else is pretty good for what the songs are.

The positive is that there are no particularly bad songs, they just aren't remarkable. Even if they didn't want her to take any risks, the songwriting could have been stronger. I'll say that a good 7" version of SYD would have slapped.

  5. I just listen to the first album for the first time. You could argue that this is her best vocally produced album, but on the other hand, it had the most consistantly pedestrian songs. The ballads are the highlight while the dance songs kinda dragged on a little to much for me.

I still put it below 20YO and Discipline, but it's not behind by much.

    Thank you!

The initial reception would've been a little better? Just A Little While was climbing the charts on airplay alone and  it peaked atop the Hot Dance Club Songs chart. Internationally, it was more successful, reaching the top ten in Belgium, Canada, and Spain and the top twenty in Australia and The United Kingdom. It peaked at number one in Japan for five weeks, and was the year's second-biggest hit on Japan's international airplay chart. That song is one of the tracks on the album that most of us skip   The lady performed in front of more than 100 million viewers and everybody who has superbowl performances see a spike in their music sales. IDK where y'all be getting that from that the album wouldn't of done well. Why just because YOU didn't like some of the tracks?

I'm not saying the it wouldn't do well per se, rather it wouldn't have done THAT well. The first week sales and charting would have been a little better, but I would not be coming for Usher, Alisha, etc. I see it doing 2 millions tops.

I'm more than aware the the singles did better abroad, but can you (not you specifically) explain why that didn't translate into better album sales, despite being promoted internationally.

Now had the superbowl thing didnt happen, I think DJ would've ranked as one of her best and successful records and be a favorite among the fans.

No. The initial reception would have been a little better but it wouldn't  be seen as a critical smash. Same thing about the success. There would still be an inevitable decline, but not as bad as it became.

And even then those albums did modestly.

  8. So Excited is the better song and it's not even saying that much. I rate All Nite as probably her worst dance song. S.Ex ages pretty poorly too but I can say there was some initial enthusiasm when I first heard it.

All Nite has the better choreography and performances. Both videos are pretty underwhelming at best but I also give All Nite the edge.

Janet is a recluse and frankly I'm over it. Let sis do her...hell I got my own problems.

I will say when you have EVERYTHING you wanted at your finger tips at such a young age, that passion and drive is not the same as others who had to struggle.

I don't even think its her team...its definitely her. Ole scary ass. That humble shit don't work in 2020 sis...take action or be left behind.

    And I'm done

We can be as frustrated as we want, but why should she worry if some of the issues concerning her legacy isn't taking money out of her pocket? At the end of the day, she has to want to do these things for herself.

what considerable international promo and US is usually always an american artist's most successful market

She's made appearances in the UK, Japan, France, Denmark and Spain. The singles probably did better abroad (but it doesn't say that much), the not the album.

I feel that some fans need to realize that she didn't have the luxury to seek refuge abroad like her peers.

And just enjoy Mariah and stop trying to make it about Janet.

Damita Jo was the decline of her career but yet her 1st week sales were more than TVR first week sales and Just A Little While was set to be a hit here cause it was being played all over radio before the backlash and was in the top 5 of every radio station's playlist rotation. Let's not pretend like Damita Jo was flopping out the gate. Many artists have flopped in America and have still went overseas and sold out shows. Once again the AMERICAN public turned against Janet. Stop acting like the whole world stopped fucking with her cause of an American event cause they didn't but I digress.

But the US was still the album's most successful market, with considerable international promo.

This list will change again a in a few years. So I'm not bothered. I knew Control was gonna be added, but TVR and RN1814 should be in the top half.

The top 200 is outright laughable. Imagine thinking some of those artists have better albums than Stevie's classical period. :lmao:

The fact that Taylor Swift is top 100 is laughable.

 She was part of the voting panel. I figured she have herself up there smfh

It's easy to pull the 'pressed Janet fan' card with this, but those were too high imo. But she the pop icon of her generation so the rankings have to reflect that.

  14. That said, Janet does well on the list despite the attacks her legacy has endured. But I can tell this list was formulated to appease the Millenial and Gen-z crowd. I don't want to get into detail but there are too many albums that are more popular than good. Many of those album will be an afterthought within the next five years. They also have a habit of over-ranking any critically acclaimed album over the past 20 years.

lol ya'll a trip. Janet has the most humble fans of all the divas. We're in the Rock & Roll hall of fame now gurls, keep it classy. There's no need to stoop to behive level

We don't even do a tenth of what the hive or barbs do and some fans find a reason to get upset.

nah we did enough and that ass got dragged every which way. All the way from him cheating on his wife to Alicia's last hit 8 years ago. All these hoes gon learn to keep Janet's name out they mouth💁‍♂️

We don't do enough a lot of the time which is why people feel free to come at Janet any old way.

To me its not even about giving the fans something...im more concerned with her LEGACY ...its falling to the wayside becus its not enough effort from her or her team to support her status as a legacy artist. It should be young ppl knowing janets music the way they know Michael jackson and Mariah's.  Mariah is doing what needs to be done as a legacy artist...janet is juss not. Aretha was way before my time but i know Aretha songs. Why does this young generation not know Janet songs? See how their is a disconnect? Her legacy should spill over into other generations like her peers and its not.

Michael's legacy is just inherently more resilient and now that he isn't here, it benefits from an estate that sees monetary gain in maintaining it.

Mariah was always more extroverted and social media the age of easier access to celebrities supplement that.

It would be nice that Janet wasn't so detached but that's something the she needs to work on for herself. It makes you wonder if she actually liked being a public figure.

    Yes chile.

It was tricky because I have bad allergies around this time...so it started off with me just coughing a lot in the middle of May. I would pop a Claritin and things would be better. Had no fever or anything. Towards the end of May, the coughing got a little more aggressive (so I thought I might be sick)...and I started getting chills and a slight headache...I was like okay...I'm getting tested tomorrow...( I had to jump through all these fucking hoops just to get a test....that pissed me off)...anywho, they swabbed my mouth and told me I'd get the results in 5 days....so I tried to be patient and wait but by that 3rd day....she was on my ass, muscles were weak af, could barely get air in my lungs...that was Sunday the end of May I believe...told my friend to call the sirens...its an emergency.

I literally just got out yesterday lol. It's crazy because they had a feeding tube down my throat, so I was knocked out most of the time when I first got there and finally when I'm coherent...I see all these Black men still being killed by police, people rioting, looting, chaos....I almost told them to put me back under.

Da fuq going on out chea. Smh

🤗 I wish for a fast and wonderful recovery.
