IMO, to be disappointed means you had some level of expectation. I didn't even know the Grammy noms were coming out. When they did I didn't check and didn't care. I also do feel that a lack of push/energy behind an album can make it age differently. I will agree there are some songs I skip more than I originally did when I first got the album but that happens with music. Sometimes the hype of newness blinds you but once you sit with it and let it all sink in you find your solid gems and the others that are decent.

Lets stop acting surprised about expected stuff. I think some fans don't recognize that Janet is a bit detached from the industry as a whole. People love and respect her legacy but the days of her getting Grammy nods & award performances, & public performances is kinda yesteryear. This album was GREAT on a fan level but for the average person, they're not as connected to it. That's just the truth.

Yea we've discussed it quite a bit. It's obvious imo that she's converted. She's never been the type to appropriate a culture for the sake of "just doing it." Janet is very purposeful & she knows exactly what she's doing. It's beautiful thing. And it's funny how they try to make those two lyrics fit her converting. Those lyrics more likely fit - Janet is a miserable Muslim and hates it. She's being controlled. She's thought about leaving him but is afraid to leave. I think the lyrics that better fit her new found religion would be "it's sad when you take such a beautiful thing, blow it up and call it the news." The woman is obviously Muslim. You can't have been a fan this long, be aware of all her patterns and still doubtful.

I love that she shows how the stigma of Islam is so westernized. How she's able to look and feel how she pleases and still follow her faith. Just beautiful. I do think shes close because she looks a little more swollen here.

I agree that Rock With U was a departure from the more recent norm, actually then again personally I like FB breakdown in the video. I also liked Make Me with the jump and all. But I think the more recent live performances have not tapped into her sweet spot. I strongly understand with age there comes difference in physical agility. I also know, there are choreographers out there that could still bring out the best in Janet. Dammn Baby, had like 2-3 moments that should have either been extended or built on...but they didn't. I know without a doubt some choreographers that could give her something tailored to her comfort but still memorable.

I know she had two new ones and they revamped but they seem to kinda still fall in line with how Gil has molded her as of recent years. Also they are friends he put on, it doesn't look like anything that is memorable or wowing.

I would say Janet's productions were pretty major. She used to have circus sized blow up dolls on the stage. She used to have kinda interesting stage designs and entries. The VR monitor started as a book that she walked through the middle. During that time, it was pretty big production. Her record time costume changes and her big lifts on the stage were great. I feel she could use screens and visuals to a better advantage just for the sake of the show but her performance is good. Her getting a different creative director and choreographer would freshen it up but she still is an EXCELLENT performer.

It's bull shit that people need to know anything about her religion in regard to the show when she tours. People love to point out the militant sides of religion while overlooking the drones flying over countries and bombing men, women, and children at this very moment. Who gives a fuck if Janet is of Muslim faith have you seen her killing off any human life, or embracing it with more love? Don't bring your disdain for religion and project it on Janet's faith. People are so hypocritical. Their country can believe in killing people to grow their agenda and not a word, never heard anyone say "I wonder if Janet believes in capitalism & democracy...since it believes in killing anyone who opposes it with a different system, enslaving people & never paying reparations, committing genocide to further its expansion..." Let her live. Her new position in my opinion is beautiful.

I'd love to talk about Janet & her growth. It's a thread I started on the other forum before the album dropped and then she came out & proved it all to be true.

And referenced God in this very specific way. See you're relatively new to the game. You came in around AFY, well I remember the Rachel interview in her house around DOAD and going into VR I remember Janet's language & ive paid enough attention to the woman to recognize and understand when her moves switch up. You using Jesus in a way to belittle is not the same as Janet shouting blessings & affirmations in Arabic. It's specific, it's intent, it's being read into as she intended for it to be. She never hides her beliefs, she speaks of them in plain sight. This is one of those times and "it's a such a beautiful thing". Just relax weirdo. Right now Janet's somewhere having recently thanked God/Allah for her blessed child moving around in her stomach. Her happiness is testament to her beautiful faith.

It's scary to believe that Janet has been this well versed on the Islamic culture for so long but just decided to randomly dabble in these "ancient" Universal terms for the hell of it. Despite having other family members who were Islamic for years. It's so ignorant to believe her recent "embracing" of these very universal terms that seem to be as common as a "God bless you" after a sneeze just recently popped into Janet's wide ranging public used lexicon. I mean in all honesty, it has to be pure ignorance to believe someone who has - Seen the world & been to many places Made lots of friends of many different races... has decided to just switch it up. I mean for someone as strategic as Janet being seen when she wants to...this is just her random act of being. Of course! When the western world is IGNORANTLY portraying Muslims Janet decides to create a mystique around it. Of course Janet, you have been a billion dollar brand who has studied the art of selling - yet you don't know what the common market & audience thinks. So you just throw out at random universal terms you never used until the last year. I mean it's only staying true to the person you're pretending to be - unless I'm ignorant to infer this is who you truly are.
