'90s Survivor: 1990

Okay, here goes. I've placed a lot of emphasis on number one singles when starting polls over the years - but what about the songs which were pipped at the post or simply peaked inside the Top 5? I'm sure all of us agree that often the best singles don't always make it to the top spot, so in a way this series will honour them as well as hopefully inject a little fun around here.

How it works: Each round will comprise of songs which made the Top 5 of Billboard's Hot 100 during that year. Cast a vote for your least favourite song from the list to see it eliminated. Ideally I would like to tally the votes once a day but with the amount of songs in some rounds I will be holding tribal council every few hours until we at least weed out the stragglers, so get your votes in early! The track with the most votes will be sent packing. One vote per person. At the end of the round Planet Janet will have decided the ultimate hit single for each respective year.

Tie-breakers: In the event of a tie the first person to reply to the tie-breaker will have the deciding post.

Janet will be included: I think it makes it more interesting to NOT exclude Janet from these games and polls because it brings everybody's true taste into question. Certainly for me she won't be receiving automatic votes based on her name. The '90s offered up too many gems for that to happen.

Have fun!

sidenote: It's interesting that MC Hammer's "U Can't Touch This" missed the top 5 yet the less popular "Have You Seen Her" and "Pray" did ~ apparently it peaked at "only" #8.

I heard the label limited single release so he could sell more albums.
