art
Just saw the movie! Janet was amazing in this movie. I was really, really impressed with her acting I must say - I gagged when most of the ladies broke into a Def Jam Poetry session I wasn't ready for it Tessa made me cringe with her poem in the dance class. Everyone in my theater was like I felt that she was a bit too amateurish for the role. When she delivered her lines it felt so contrived and the same can be said for Kerry too. Loretta, Thandie and Whoopi made me LOL through out the movie. I know it was meant to be serious but they were just too extra. Though Loretta was the main one that carried the movie she was just too theatrical. Janet's poem was the only one that flowed; I didn't realize it was poem until after she finished. Phylicia did a fine job too. Best: Loretta, Phylicia, Janet and Thandie Mediocre: Kimberley and Hill Harper Worst: Anika, Kerry, Tessa, Omari and Whoopi Overall rating of movie: 2.5/5 stars

Whoopi tripped me out with that "you moved my box" with all those damn boxes all over the place For the most part I agree with your "Best", "Mediocre" and "Worst" ranking, but I'd put Kim in the "Best" and put Loretta in the "Mediocre. janetDAYZ
QUESTION: does anyone think that Mariah could've play the role of Tangie & pull it off.............the jury is still out on this one. Funny that you asked that because after the movie the thought of that role being meant for Mariah ran across my mind. The next thought that followed was ..WTF made Tyler even consider her for such a raunchy role like that .. I COULD NOT SEE HER DOING THAT SUCCESSFULLY AT ALL

The Sacred Prostitute
Mariah would have ruined that role!!!!!!! So glad Janet suggested Thandie for it and Tyler went for it. I thought Thandie was the best next to Phylicia, Whoop, Kimberly and Janet. I did want more Janet though.....she needed just one more scene in my opinion that could have been subtle, I don't think we got to see her revelation as much as the others. And the scene and monologue for Kimberly when the kids are thrown should not have been cut out.......there was a lot cut out from the play. That scene is one of the most famous monologues for Black actresses....don't understand how Tyler could not have let Kimberly do that. I watched it a 2nd time and liked it a lot more and saw more in the lines. Thandie cracked me up I must say and Whoop was too much! REPENT! The Sacred Prostitute
Oh yeah Janet's husband was cute until that scene in the bedroom when Janet was reading him.....I swear his gay face crept out at that moment like a bitch! Laveaux
I thought that Janets performance in the movie was amazing. She really came with it in my opinion. I thought that the movie was exceptional and I really thought that I would hate it for some reason, but I really loved it.

I would've LOVED to see her as Tangi! For just a descent performance, all she has to do is channel her Bianca alter-ego.

Maxence
I saw it, and I LOVED it. Now I say that having not read the source material, nonetheless, it was VERY good. Perhaps some of the critics comments are motivated somewhat by...other issues...but most definitely it's bias against Tyler, because to call this film a "trainwreck" (as one reviewer wrote)...I just don't understand it. They should just go ahead and give Kimberly her Oscar! Simply amazing (though knowing Hollywood, she won't even be nominated) Janhova was GREAT! I just wished she was given more screen time, but great performance nonetheless. dd I loved the film... i thought how he presented the poetry was great and refreshing! All the actresses was great... the standout actress in my opinion was Thandie loved the janet performance in the bedroom with her husband-- great!!! Loved-- He took all of my stuff (poem)!!!!!! Loved the--- I loved u ever since I was 13 line-- Loved the-- You had a part in this-line- by Phylicia I think Tyler did a very good job
