Welcome to a new series where we will be covering a pretty obvious genre-of-choice around here, R&B. I thought we could focus on albums since 2000-2009 produced so many gems from the world of rhythm and blues. Each round you will be given a choice of ten albums (technically eleven since the "other" option is there for an album you feel may have been overlooked), one vote per person.

The Grammys decided it belonged to D'Angelo. Who gets your vote?

As soon as I saw mama's gun I was gonna vote for it, but then I saw lovers rock and I'm torn

I know, it's tough. Mama's Gun has the edge for me, although that is my favourite Sade album.

Craig David >>>>

I thought it was innovative for it's time, mixing R&B with 2-step/garage. Plus he's British :shifty:

He was so good back then. How did it he let it fall apart so quickly?

He peaked with his first album :(. What's Your Flava was a mess! Although Rise & Fall made up for it.

He sure did. I liked 'Rise & Fall' too. Do you remember 'Shape' by Sugababes? It sampled the same Sting song.

Yeah I do :). I loved Sugababes back then before Amelle joined. A Monica song from The Boy Is Mine sampled it too, didn't it?

My rankings of the albums in 2000 (disclaimer: I didn't have some of them, some I just werent/arent interested in, so this is based off of what I know)

1. The Heat

2. Who Is Jill Scott?

3. Mama's Gun

4. TP-2

5. My Name Is Joe

6. Can't Take me Home

7. Lovers Rock

8. The Ecleftic 2 II sides to a book

Today

1. Who Is Jill Scott

2. Mama's Gun

3.The heat

4. Can't Take Me Home

5. Lovers Rock

6. TP-2

7. My name is Joe

8.The Ecleftic 2 II sides to a book

(the rest I never heard)

* Jill & Erykah's albums aged the best
* The Heat didn't age too well to me the way the previous 2 did, I love he wasn't man enough, just be a man about it, Spanish Guitar, & the remix of Maybe but that's about it.
*Must be noted I ONLY got Wyclefs album for 911 and NOTHING else......oh wait he does have a duet with The Rock on it lol. But yea, don't care about Wyclef without Lauryn Hill being apart of his act and that album taught me that
* I like D'Angelo but not enough to want to dive into his music
* I was never here for Craig David for some reason, I found Deal me in weak
* TP-2 is 1 of my fave R.Kelly albums
* My Name is Joe is my fave Joe album
* Sade's & P!nk have done better since then. But it must be noted I LOVE R&B P!NK and miss her, don't think she needs a whole album but would love if she came back on a few songs on a future era

Don't mind me as I also post more detailed comments + semi-analyses :P

1. Mama's Gun ~ "Didn't Cha Know" and the album version of "Bag Lady" showcase neo-soul at it's very best. There's so many great songs here but these two are my favorites. Ms. Badu has always been very consistent musically.

2. Voodoo ~ It didn't grab my attention as much as Erykah did but still solid record, especially its centerpiece that is "Untitled (How Does It Feel)." He's an artist with ambition.

3. The Heat ~ I have to agree it hasn't held up as well as other albums, but it still sounds pretty good. The four singles carry it - but "Art of Love" is too hot to ignore. B)

In 2000, I was listening almost exclusively to Janet so that's why I haven't fully heard the other albums that came out. -_- From what I've heard so far, I liked the Soulquarians best. (Common being another but of course Like Water for Chocolate was rap - it does have strong neo-soul elements though )With that said, these are my favorite songs I've heard from the remaining 7 plus a random comment lol...

* Lovers Rock ~ "By Your Side" (Sade always stayed in their own lane and did it well.)

* Who Is Jill Scott? ~ "A Long Walk" (Actually I've been meaning to play this album for a while. She's next on my list lol)

* My Name is Joe ~ "Thank God I Found You (Remix)" (Yeah, he's another artist I first heard of through Mariah lol)

* The Eclectic II ~ "911" (I like some of his solo songs ~ "It Doesn't Matter" is also pretty funny lol)

* Can't Take Me Home ~ "Most Girls" (I like R&B-tinged P!nk, but I understand why she abandoned that sound)

* TP-2.com ~ "I Wish" (Between 1992-2003, I was least impressed by what I've heard from here tbh)

* Born to Do It ~ "Fill Me In" (I don't really love him or hate him. He's just there lol)

^That's also my projected ranking based on what I've heard lol. Another 2000 R&B album I enjoyed was...

* En Vogue's Masterpiece Theatre ~ I know Matt hates it but I liked its concept lol. "Riddle" was one of my favorite singles that year.
