Power/Rangers short film-fan fiction

This has been making the rounds today, mainly because the creator of Power Rangers creator is doing everything in his power to destroy this

What are your thoughts?

Mine, I LOVE THIS, it's so damn good, I usually don't do "fan-fiction" stuff but this is the best thing I've seen since that Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, like this might be even more impressive because Power Rangers is such a cheesy piece of crap that all of us 90's kids loved but look back on with embarrassment(/yet fond memories), and it's turned into this EPIC/BADASS film that I'd pay money for. If the idiot creator of TPR was smart after the reviews and success of this short, he'd do what they did with Mortal Kombat and invest in Joseph Khan & Adi Shankar to expand on this into a actual series or movie and try to personally bank off of it.

Dawson really grew into a fine adult.

I KNOW RIGHT, I never thought he looked good during his time on the show (well maybe more so the teen years), but in everything he's done since then....10's  , aging works for him

The Power Rangers are part of my teenage years..I remember watching it every morning before I went to High School.  And if you're a real G, you know that VR Troopers came on after it. LOL.

And Tommy and Jason reinforced that I was indeed gay. :lmao:  I had crushes on both of them. :lmao:

Tommy lookin good in that picture...

The video got pulled, that thing racked up almost 15million views in 2 days tho, so see like I said if the Power Rangers guy would pay attention to the response and reception, and try to make him money himself off it and put together something great with these creators.

PR is still going isn't it? Like they still do them? Would you be here for a Morphin reboot...with todays special effects technology etc? That is if it's done with a good budget?

Yup it's still going. And............HELL YES ONLY....ONLY....if it were like the short, It couldn't be "kid friendly" this Mightily Morphed my mind LOL, But I wouldn't mind a kid friendly version if it were smart, if it weren't dumbed down like most kid shows are now, it has to be something COOL. So basically yea I'd be here for it.

In other news of Grumpy old men, the actor who plays Charlie didn't like the movie because "it's cursing" "too violent" ugh Here's the story, I'd recommend clicking on the link and listening to his opinion too.

Whether fans enjoyed Power/Rangers, the short film that put an adult spin on the classic franchise, one of the original Rangers was not pleased with the project.

Jason David Frank, the original Green Ranger, who also served as the White Ranger during Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, posted a video to his Facebook page to give his thoughts on the Joseph Kahn-, Adi Shankar-produced Power/Rangers film.

Frank explains that he was actually approached to be in the film but declined.

“I’m just a PG-13 guy,” Frank said. “The cuss words, the drugs, all this other stuff, it doesn’t fly with me.”

Power/Rangers took a dark approach to the source material, making the Rangers warriors in a bloody battle where the words “dark” and “gritty” might as well be written on every frame of the short. The film has, since its premiere earlier this week, been taken off of Vimeo, but remains on YouTube in a slightly toned-down fashion. But either version is a sober, serious take on the more colorful source material, and while many older fans were pleased with the direction it took, Frank saw the new tone as an issue.

Frank’s primary sticking point for why he wasn’t a fan of the film had to do with reconciling the mature direction of the piece and the franchise’s originas as a children’s show.

“The problem is that they’re still connected with adults and kids,” he said. “You can’t take a brand like this and reboot it so dark and gritty…you still have the kids that want to watch Power Rangers.”

Frank indictaes that he did enjoy the film on an “inner geek” level, but he thinks there’s a responsibility on the part of the people creating something with the brand to always keep the kids in mind.

He also went on to talk about another reason why he turned down a role in the short: He’s holding out for the real thing.

“Do I like the film? Here’s my thing. I want to be in the real movie,” Frank said.

He wants a “Saban-blessing approved” opportunity to bring Tommy to a film format. Frank even makes a plea to Lionsgate in the video to include Tommy in the upcoming big screen Power Rangers film in production at the studio, which is set to hit theaters in 2016.

Watch Frank’s full response below.

What makes his response dumb is like the idea that there can't be a difference in the 2, that adults can't tell kids "this is OUR Power Rangers, you have your baby bullshit 2(!, it's 2 Power Rangers series active right now) on Nick, this is the good 1, sorry, not till you're older". I don't see what the problem is or why that's so hard for certain parents, I guess some people believe their kids need to watch everything they can, EW.  I hear him that he wants PR to stay a "family friendly" name, but Im sorry it was never that family friendly to begin with, it promoted violence, hell I had friends when I was little who weren't allowed to watch because it was too violent, this isn't Barney, this was a action show and it got the kids who watched fans of the action genre, this is a evolved version of that. But can't fault the man for not seeing that....I can for being a "PG-13 guy", ugh.

Back on YOUTUBE, i think the old fart Power Rangers creator backed down and didn't want to take it to court and practically risk ending all fanfiction of all kind from existing on the internet, and that's pretty damn ridiculous and un-constitutional. HOORAY FOR FREE SPEECH, INSPIRATION, AND ART, you've been vindicated and the world gets to properly enjoy this epic beautiful masterpiece

Adi Shankar & Joseph Kahn’s Power/Rangers Returns To YouTube & Vimeo

Saban apparently relents, as the bootleg Power Rangers fan film is back online.

Earlier this week, Power/Rangers the dark and gritty Power Rangers fan film quickly became a viral sensation on YouTube and earned the wrath of Saban, the company that owns the Power Rangersfranchise.

Vimeo was the first site to capitulate to Saban’s demands when a more graphic version of Power/Rangers was taken down. Yesterday, YouTube followed suit and pulled down Power/Rangers after the video amassed over 12 million views.

Power/Rangers producer Adi Shankar and director Joseph Kahn argued that the film was protected under fair use because it was a dark satire of the Power Rangers. Tonight, it seems that Shankar and Kahn have gotten their point across.

Kahn announced on Twitter that both versions of Power/Rangers are back online. “Hey internet, YOU WON. Saban has kindly and generously agreed to let us show POWER/RANGERS!”

But in the end, Saban has apparently backed down from a potential legal fight with Shankar and Kahn. Some observers had predicted that a showdown in court between the two sides could have unfavorably affected the thousands of fan films online by finding them in violation of copyright. For now, that crisis has been averted.
