Rock & Roll Hall of Game
Isn't she a pop/Latin/R&B/loud genre-artist. Why is she getting into country music? 0_o Girl don't know what to do with her career

Why is she getting into country music? 0_o Girl don't know what to do with her career Yes she does, expand, the last album had country on it, she's performed country on The Voice, this is called expanding her brand. Like P!nk going folk last year.
Rock & Roll Hall of Game
LA Reid made Pink do some R&B album when she's naturally a rocker.. She's been a rocker ever since with pop and a tad of R&B. Folk is a comparable genre to what she naturally did. And she really just helped push something she loved Xtina is exploiting.. Not expanding.. Performing on The Voice doesn't count and what song(s) from her last album did she "expand" in?

The song Just a Fool from the last album, 1 of the few songs she promoted a few times, besides that song in general she said her friendship with Blake is showing her a side of Country she's interested in and she's done duets with him on the show and on some of his tour dates, exploiting would be having nothing remotely to do with country at any point of her career before now and then doing this show....but that's just not how it happened is it

Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan.. Not at all country Exploiting. She saw an opportunity, thanks to her "friend" Blake, and is now exploiting it. This will backfire. She's jumping genre's like she hasn't had moderate success in her early music career. She doesn't embody anything country. She's a white girl from Pennsylvania who speaks Spanish and has like two Latin albums with ZERO country roots. how is that not exploiting? And to exploit it more, she's releasing it with a huge country TV show connection (Nashville) which is the country people's soap opera or something

It's no more wrong for her exploitive for her to do this than it was for Courtney Love to do Empire, it's expanding the brand into new territories, and in her case, a territory she's already been preparing for for 4 years
Rock & Roll Hall of Game
Today's folk music and the folk music of the mid-late 1900s is not the same as country music And I said she speaks Spanish.. Not "knows Spanish".. Doesn't matter what's in her blood as oppose to how she presents herself but that's irrelevant Yes I would call out Janet, President Timberlake, P!nk, etc for exploiting a random (money making) genre by marketing it from some popular show you cannot be that blind. She has not prepared for it she made one pop-country song from an album no one bought

It's more comparable to sorry ass blue-grass music
Rock & Roll Hall of Game
Country is a subgenre of folk music... But nice job bringing P!nk into a Xtina thread. Brilliant! Which one has had more success.. I'll wait http://www.rollingstone.com/tv/news/christina-aguilera-to-play-country-wannabe-on-abcs-nashville-20150217 Christina Aguilera has signed on for a multi-episode appearance on the ABC musical drama, Nashville, People magazine reports. She'll play the familiar role of a pop superstar, but one who comes to Music City and realizes her heart is really in countryIt's like in real life except instead of heart, it's her wallet

She has not prepared for it she made one pop-country song from an album no one bought Today's folk music is just as basic as it ever was and is just as comparable and more relateable to country as it ever was. Point remains, folk & country go hand in hand, it's bias at it's best to criticize 1 for making the drastic genre jump but not the other You missed the part where I said if this were her very 1st & only time stepping in the relm of Country it'd be a different, but as pointed out, this isn't out of nowhere, you have to be blind if you think it is Actually no, she made the 1 song for her album, but has performed country (along with other genres) on The Voice and appeared on Blakes tour dates. Sorry, she's been preparing for it, and even if it was JUST that song on the last album, it still serves as a hint to her next direction she was preparing for, thus again I win. And the article post makes it seem like it's perfect for her or any pop star who has experience in country, which she does, so the role is well deserved. Country is a subgenre of Folk.. So therefore it is NOT the same.. That's like saying Rap & Blues are the same (all are subgenres of folk music) Yes! She can't just jump into another random as genre at her free will.. She'll be laughed at. She slowly gravitated towards it like a moth to a flame.. Now she's fully exploiting her brand into it by appearing on the white Empire (or is Empire the black Nashville... Whatever) You win? If Xtina goes country.. You lose my friend. You will lose you're the one who has to listen to a country song/potential album from Xtina It is way too late to switch career genes for her tho. You and her will lose Bad example, there's many country artist that do folk or mix folk, Rap & Blues rarely ever mix. Exactly she planned this 3 years ago that she'd record a few country songs, and then when nobody suspects it go on a successful Primetime show about the Country music industry that doesn't exist yet, that'll make perfect sense I mean who ever heard of a artist "dabbling" in another genre, then based off of the good responses from that they do more in that genre, UNHEARD OF I win, she's not exploiting jack, she's expanding, nice try tho, if ONLY she had NO past in Country, you loss the argument sir, this is a TV show and a few songs for the soundtrack, that's no gurantee the next album will be 100% country, but hey even if it was, she laid down the tracks that it could be the next move.and if it paid off positively like the show is, there's no losing there....only for her haters

Much like country is a subgenre of folk.. They are related (as in folk is the grandfather and rap is the grandson) but they are NOT the same Folk music isn't popular. And doesn't have a consistent sound. Folk music is expressionist music about a small community. You say expanding.. I say exploiting. I see no difference #equaltiy Pay off like her last tour But I get it now.. John Mayer, P!nk are all i can name But most artist who perform folk music are indie-folk artists who are becoming more popular in the mainstream but not THAT popular on a national level Nice landing on your signature move, "That One Tour Slam".
