Social Networking: Facebook, Twitter etc.

How are you with it? What are you signed to and how much do you use it?

I went on a sabbatical recently as I got jealous of peoples lives whilst my own was ultimately boring. I deactivated Facebook over a month ago. I admit I miss it but I've actually felt more occupied since deactivated it.

After that I deactivated Twitter. This one took some adjusting because all my random thoughts go in that. All my venting. Everything. So it's weird not having a platform to express everything going on in my head.

In a moment of madness I deleted Instagram which I forgot you can't reactivate >_<

Do you depend on social media a lot? Or are you living fine without it? If you are on it and don't use it a lot, how do you discipline yourself not to waste so much time on it?

I use Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter

Twitter will never get old. I love it. It changed the way we see and hear things in the world. It's the instant news and jokes in under 140-characters

Facebook is meh.. Studies have shown that people think others have more interesting lives but truth be told it is all just toilet talk. And FB is exactly that.. Toilet entertainment.. I've been on it for 10 years now... I like it but I don't love it.

Instagram is fun. It's a digital photo album of random strangers, friends, and family taken with their iPhones and other lessor devices.

I use each app daily...aside from Instagram, I depend on it to give me what I want: Pop culture news, events, etc. I can't read it all but I don't have any problems reading Twitter or FB until I'm "caught up"

I have all of them but probably use Twitter a lot more

I use Facebook on a laptop more than mobile because I feel like I don't get the same experience from those 2 platforms

Instagram is cute and fun. I follow a lot of artsy users

And Bu people don't really post ordinary events on their Facebook/Instagram so don't fall for the whole "my-life-is-boring" crap. This is the one thing I've learned over the years. I always see pictures of my friends on vacation and other "happy stuff" like that but everyone's life is boring at some point :) AND it's a good thing I've also learned not to derive pleasure from having too many likes and comments. I'm way past that superficial shit :)

I have Facebook and it's the one I use often. I post the occasional "life update", I'll say, and sometimes pictures for my family and friends that I don't see often. My main use for it is news items, connecting with my sorors and frats, posting random things like quotes, and posting the results of fun little quizzes I take from Buzzfeed and Disney.

I've gone through several Twitter accounts. I have a new one, but I don't do much tweeting myself. I honestly just have it as another way to keep up with the world through those I follow.

Instagram, I have, but like Twitter I don't do much with it. I might have like 4 posts on it. :asham:

All in all, I'm not sure how I "discipline" myself per se. Even with Facebook, which is the one I use most often, if it wasn't for the quizzes and some of the pages I follow I would only log on about once or twice a month. I just don't have that draw to them since they're the ultimate drama magnets and drama is something I avoid unless necessary. I also stay involved in other things in my actual life so as not to get sucked into them. Once I got to college, I honestly cared much less about social media and more about what I was doing in my real life since I was finally able to have more to do now that I'm away from home.

that's the thing, once it was pointed out to me how many people use FB, it was clear to me it wasn't for me, besides I know a lot of people who don't have FB

Why that face?

Unless you're talking about not doing much of anything on FB, it's not so easy to avoid drama. Even with what I hardly do, I still see some craziness on my TL. Granted, I've ensured it's on the lesser side, but it's still there. Frequent use will mean drama.

I only use twitter and instagram now.  I had to get off Facebook once some of my high school teachers started joining and trying to friend.  :umm:  And FB is not as exciting as it was when it first came out.  Instagram is fun because of the memes and you get to see your favorite celebs candid photos.  I stay on twitter mostly. Twitter is messy but thank god for the block button.  Plus that is the only place you can  get #lastimelilmowaspoppin  :lmao:  Man she got dragged last night

I have Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat. Facebook everyday, Instagram I hardly ever use/update but I look at it just about everyday, Twitter I use it way more than I used to plus it's how I find out a lot of stuff that's going on. Snapchat I tend to use  often also.

Deleted my IG last year and I made a new one like Two weeks ago. I ended up deleting it a week later because I realized I really wasn't missing anything.

Twitter I really only use to connect/tweet with my favs when they have stuff going on. I'll occasionally scroll through my TL and scream at what people tweet.

FB, I used to be very active on but I just grew out of it. I mainly share and just like status now.

That's all I needed. I'm not talking about contributing to it since that's always optional. I'm talking about seeing it there. That's all.

I havent changed much since the last time we had this convo, but I'll be a lil more specific to the why's of my answers for the platforms

Facebook, FB will always be #1 for me, it's more direct, sending whatever to whoever seems easiest, getting news, checking up on people, and lastly & most important, it's actually REALLY great for the business I'm in, we can't copy & paste whole scripts to twitter DM's, that word count is bullshit. Ofcourse you can probably just send the file, but still I like being able to type how much of whatever I want without having to worry about when a dumb word count turns red. And you do need FB for Tinder (Spotify too I think)

Instagram, it's more important to me right now than it has ever been, the more I use it the more I like it, not more than FB but more than Twitter easily

Twitter, I haven't used it any more or less since the last time I talked about this (unless I'm using the Instagram to share to Twitter) it's JUST so not special or vital to me. FB does what I need Twitter for better I think. And like as bored as yall seem to be with FB, I feel that way with Twitter, I honestly don't think I can spend more than 10 mins there with my own followers and people I follow, where's on FB it'ss always some fun conversation or topic in a group going on. I guess I just got the right friends or contacts on there tehehe :coffee:

Snap Chat, don't really use it too much, don't really care about.

.............Bu's absense in all of the above is way noticeble and hurts ma soul.

I agree with you. It's so easy to avoid drama unless you're starting it or unless someone else is posting a sensitive subject

Were they dragging her for how she was during the reunion show cause her jealousy of Chante Moore was clearly visible

FB account that i hadnt used since 2012 and logged in 2 weeks back to contact a friend abroad...and thats all its really been since. Really cant be bothered to keep up with it all.

Generally try to avoid being an Android zombie. Honestly think its a slippery slope for us all to get over reliant on smartphones/social media, broadcasting our lives for the masses. I do see its benefits, but over reliance, no.

And what is this new shit called Perriscope  :umm:

If you are into SM and books, i really recommend this one. HILARIOUS  :lmao: but thought-provoking  -_-
