General Rules for Planet Janet Welcome to Planet Janet! The main objective of this board is to express your love for Janet, your opinions, and to interact with an important segment of the Janet fandom.  To enjoy your experience here, below are general rules and guidelines to make your experience here be successful: The N Word Please be aware that the N word is going to be filtered on this forum. Most importantly, this word is not acceptable on this forum in any form; therefore, if it is used again by ANY member on here, it will result in an immediate and permanent ban. Consider this the first, only, and last warning regarding this. Music Download | Copyright Infringement Illegal download links to music from any artist are not permissible to be posted on this forum at any time. If you have posted an illegal download link, you must take it down immediately. Failure to remove the links, and/or subsequent, repeated offenses will result in disciplinary action up to and including a permanent ban from the forum. Fan Threads of Other Artists Generally, we like to keep threads and/or topics about other artists within an Official Artist Thread.  This helps to eliminate clutter and redundancy throughout the forum and allow a one-stop shop to view comments on that particular artist not pertaining to Janet.  If there is HUGE news related to an artist and generates a lot of discussion, it is okay to have a standalone thread on that topic outside of the Official Thread. A good debate is OKAY in the Official Threads of other artists.  Official Threads are not complete sanctuaries of devotion of that particular artist; however, there is a need to be civil with other members.  Please refrain from personal attacks and arguments that devolve into personal attacks. Additionally, do NOT use Janet as means to defend an artist.  This forum is made in her honor, and putting her down to boast your particular artist is prohibited. Exercise good judgment and common sense.  If not, then the moderating team will exercise disciplinary action depending on the egregiousness of the action.  Please utilize this announcement as a first warning. Personal Attacks

Each member has a warning percentage - most of them are at zero right now but a few have been warned before. Each warning is worth 10%, and once it gets to 100% the member is automatically banned from the forum.

Each time a member gets into an argument with another member that includes personal attacks, if it is reported or viewed by a member of the moderating team, each participant in the personal attack will get an increase in their warning percentage.  They will be notified via PM, and, prior to posting again, will receive a receipt acknowledging that warning before they can post again. The Moderating Team will never divulge a member's warn percentages on the forum or to other members.

What this means is you are now responsible for your own future on this forum. The Moderating Team will not keep asking you to stop and being ignored. Learn to let things go and learn to moderate yourself before posting; if you end up banned it will be your own fault. Personal attacks and include attacks on one’s race, age, religious creed, color, gender, national origin, physical, mental or visual disability, medical condition, ancestry, marital and military status, pregnancy or sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and general physical appearance/looks. Depending on the nature of the personal attack there will be corrective action up and including permanent banning. If you have any inquiries about your warning percentage, feel free to PM a mod for an answer. If you need any clarification on the rules, feel free to reach out to The Moderating Team.

Can Katy Perry get a Witness??

So it took me a minute, but after a couple of listens, I have actually come around to Katy Perry's new album Witness and I understand what she's trying to accomplish. Honestly, I think she really is starting to get WOKE and realizes that the superficial pop princess isn't going to cut it anymore.

Witness isn't a perfect album, but it sure is a more bold move than most pop stars at the height of their powers would be willing to take. Ironically, the Witness era bare many similarities to Janet Jackson's The Velvet Rope, which was also misunderstood by 90s era critics for it's overt pushing of boundaries, but is heralded twenty years later as one of the greatest albums in pop music.

What do y'all think?

It's weak af and shouldn't be compared to Janet's most personal album.

Witness not personal at all, it doesn't push the envelope, lyrically it's shit... vocally it's shit (she sings in the same note for every song). It is by far her worst album to date

the only tolerable song on the album is Swish thanks to Nicki Minaj

While I appreciate the intent I don't feel she's delivered based on this era so far. I do love "Bon Apetit" but have no interest in checking out the album.

The album is hit and miss. The title Witness is worth a listen, as are Swish Swish and definitely Pendulum. I think Power and Deja Vu get close to great but don't quite make it.

This is not an album that'a going to hit on first listen. And yes I totally agree when I say the era is similar to TVR I'm not saying the albums are similar. Witness isn't as personal, and it lacks the range and focus of TVR, plus the lyrical content isn't as strong (of course that's the case when comparing any Katy Perry album to ANY Janet album). But is taking a huge risk in trying to get woke.

It doesn't differentiate between any other pop album. It doesn't stand out so idk how this album by Katy is close to similar to TVR

Perry had nothing to say during this album and you can tell (granted she has nothing to say during any album)

Let me know her album's 1st week sales. I'm sure it's gonna flop. Everything she's given thus far is a total miss smh

Witness sold 170k of pure album sales.

To compare, Prism sold 286k; Teenage Dream sold 192k (all first week)

Not totally a flop... it actually performed better than expect but it doesn't have the staying power as her previous albums

Ok so I digress.  The comparisons to Ms. Jackson's work are not warranted.  End of story and I take back the comment.

On Katy Perry's Witness, it is most certainly not 'complete shit'.  Some of the songs are quite good, and a hell of a lot more inventive than most of what's coming out today.  At least she's trying to do something.  But even on some of the songs that lack lyrical depth, the production is stellar and they are bops which would be welcome on most any playlist.

Not really and the critics agrees

She has hit makers on this album but zero substantial hits. Lyrics >>> beats/production

With all due respect, I loved her previous albums. They all featured great production and okay lyrics. two or three album tracks were solid

I knew she lost her way with that Olympic song. She's going to Gaga herself

She's not talented enough to Gaga herself. :umm:

How dare you.

The Cure says otherwise. :coffee:

Also there's a lot of good songs on Joanne. <_<

But yes, Gaga needs to get back to "Gaga" which at the very least is a very strong brand already.

Katy on the other hand needs to evolve but I don't think she knows where to go.

You mean the song that peaked at #39 and as Billboard called it, a "necessary course of correction".. a step in the right direction but nothing big

There are zero good songs on Noanne

I agree with the rest

I've heard all of Gaga's albums and yea I agree that Joanne was not up to par with her previous efforts...

with that said, A Million Reasons is pretty amazing vocally and melodically....and has become one of my favorites of hers and has rightfully earned a spot among her greatest hits imo

To be fair... she literally performed that song so many times that it engraved in your (our) brain(s). That song is honestly weak but she's been persistent with it.

to be fair I enjoyed that song from first listen.. and the only times I seen her sing it live was carpool karaoke and the Super Bowl .. but by all means continue to tell others why they like things
