JoeJoe
For those asserting that Jimmy and Terry are completely unconnected to the contemporary music scene. well who said that? We've all seen them at J. Cole's show before as well as many other artists before lol
Rock & Roll Hall of Game
well who said that? That fake fan LawdToday who rather Janet work with shitty [hot] producers like she did for three different albums that were all shit compared to 1986-2001 & 2015

JoeJoe
Damita Jo was lovely. lol wasn't Jimmy and Terry on that one?Yup but Jimmy was pressed because Janet didn't let them produce the whole album by themselves. They didn't want her to explore herself and think outside the box. Some fans try to purposefully agree with Jimmy that too many producers worked on the album when we all know if the album would've sold more they would be praising it.
Rock & Roll Hall of Game
It sold more than Unbreakable... so quality doesn’t equal salesSorry.. Jimmy & Terry were right. Damita Jo was “good” because they still produced it and were the executive producers of Damita Jo sooooo failAnd then she released Discipline.. making it it the third album Janet worked with a bunch of solid producers (Self-titled album, Dream Street) and didn’t involve Jimmy and Terry proving Janet needs Terry & Jimmy... This isn’t up to debate. That’s the Way Love Goes

This isn’t up to debate. That’s the Way Love Goes IMO the key point here is standards. Jimmy, Terry and Janet set a standard together with Control, and regardless of which you may think is the best of the following albums, I think we can all agree that that standard was met on RN1814, Janet, TVR and AFY. This is Janet Jackson we're talking about here, so virtually any project she does is going to have highlights because she's an incredible artist. I too actually like Damita Jo as well, but it didn't hit the standard of the Big 5, and that would've been true whether it was a smash hit or not. Once an artist gets to a certain level, people are going to invest in them (at least USED to) regardless of whether or not their latest project lives up to their previous work. Damita Jo had enough songs to be a smash hit, and then it also had a lot of stuff that just didn't need to be on the album.

Wow this teaThe gag is the some of the more lackluster songs on the album are the ones they produced by themselves. Yikes.
wayneashleymusic
Unbreakable hit that standard. Damita Jo... nahDamita Jo had enough songs to be a smash hit? Yes... This was 2004, remember? The biggest hit of the year was Usher and Lil John's Yeah! with other chart-toppers being Ciara's Goodies and Terror Squad's Lean Back. Other "R&B standouts from that year?? Milkshake by Kelis, Freek-a-Leak Petey Pablo and every other Lil John assist you can remember. A song like All Nite or Island Life could've been massive at the time, barring other factors. If you're hoping for complex vocals, high end production quality or R&B with a world message to top charts, it wasn't gonna happen in 2004. This isn’t up to debate. That’s the Way Love Goes But Janet wasn't involved creatively in Discipline either an you know that so that argument is flawed. Janet needs no one. Let's get that straight hun! Jimmy & Terry have been getting outside help (and stealing credits) since the late 90s and did the same thing in 2015. If they are gonna bring in outside producers to bring sounds they can't pull out of their asses, then it should be good ones. Not relying on DemJoints (whoever tf that is)

Laveaux
To say that fans would appreciate Damita Jo more if it sold better is an outrageous accusation. I found the album less than satisfying because it lacked depth and direction. My little theory here...When Janet is focused and when she is involved in the writing process...it makes for a better album. Unbreakable is superior. That was a pretty awesome idea huh... 2

Whisper vocals, terrible lyrics... about sex. SNORE.. Add homophobic reggae and it still sucked. The fans loved it and that’s all that matters. The general population was like NAHIsland Life was never considered a single, isn’t performed on tour, and didn’t have a music video. The song is cute tho so you got me? I’m not looking at top charters. The quality just wasn’t there Edited August 21, 2017 by State of the Game

I'd really wish you'd stop bringing Beyoncé into this argument. It really doesn't help your case here when it comes to the music sis ?and honestly the work she has done with outside producers shits on all the songs that came out of the Unbreakable album. I Want You? Easily better than 75% of Unbreakable... and that's really no shade. Sure unbreakable as an album flows better than previous ones, but that does not mean the music is greater. And lmao at you throwing shade at All Nite. Most of her discog is about love & sex. God you are a big contradiction. and Dem Jointz is not a winner of 3 Grammys. A flop producer who's main credits come from Kelly Price and Jordin Sparks. Not the sound Janet needs. ?
