Protesters have been arrested at the site of Saturday's "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, state police say. The unspecified number of arrests began shortly after police made a declaration of unlawful assembly at Emancipation Park, the state police said on Twitter.

The city of Charlottesville has declared Saturday's gathering at Emancipation Park -- site of the scheduled "Unite the Right" rally" of white nationalists and right-wing protesters -- an unlawful assembly. Police officers are speaking on bullhorns, directing people to leave the park.
CNN video shows police in riot gear standing shoulder to shoulder behind their shields. Some people appear to be leaving the park.
City officials also declared a local emergency, which will allow officials to request additional resources, if needed, to respond.

Demonstrators clashed Saturday on the streets of Charlottesville ahead of a "Unite the Right" rally as white nationalists and other right-wing groups -- and counter-protesters -- converged in this college town in the latest flare-up of a running nation debate over the country's identity.
Fist fights and screaming matches erupted before the rally, which police expect to attract thousands of people. The skirmishes unfolded just hours after a scuffle Friday night between torch-bearing demonstrators and counter-protesters at the nearby University of Virginia.
Saturday's rally is the latest event drawing white nationalists and right-wing activists from across the country to this Democratic-voting college town -- a development first precipitated by the city's decision to remove symbols of its Confederate past.

Though the rally is scheduled for noon ET, hundreds had gathered by mid-morning on Charlottesville's streets and at a city park.
Shortly before noon, city officials signaled they might move to break it up, declaring it an "unlawful assembly" on Twitter. A local emergency also was declared.
At one point, a few dozen white men wearing helmets and holding makeshift shields chanted, "Blood and soil!" Nearby, a group of clergy and other counter-demonstrators, including activist and Harvard professor Cornel West, held hands, prayed and sang. "This Little Light of Mine."
Police presence was heavy on this overcast day, with more than 1,000 officers expected to be deployed, city officials said.

Police anticipate the rally will attract as many as 2,000 to 6,000 people and could be the "largest hate-gathering of its kind in decades in the United States," as described by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Friday clashes in a city attracting far-right activists

White nationalists carrying torches surround a group of protesters around a statue of Thomas Jefferson on the University of Virginia's campus Friday night. Scuffles broke out between the groups. Earlier, the white nationalists were chanting "White lives matter" and "You will not replace us!" as they marched on campus.

Charlottesville, once home to Thomas Jefferson, is known as a progressive city of about 47,000 people. Eighty percent of its voters choose Hillary Clinton during last year's election.
But far-right activists and Ku Klux Klan members have come here in recent months, outraged by the city's intention to remove traces of its links to the Confederacy -- including plans to remove a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee. The move follows efforts by communities across the South to remove Confederate iconography from public property since the 2015 rampage killings of nine black churchgoers in Charleston by a self-described white supremacist.

Ahead of Saturday's rally, tensions roiled Friday night as white nationalists -- some holding what appeared to be backyard tiki-style torches -- marched onto the University of Virginia's campus.
Chanting, "Blood and soil" and "You will not replace us," the group rallied around a statue of Thomas Jefferson before they clashed with counter-protesters, CNN affiliate WWBT reported. The group left the university's grounds when police arrived and declared the gathering an unlawful assembly.
City and UVA officials condemned Friday's march.
"In my 47 years of association with @UVA, this was the most nauseating thing I've ever seen. We need an exorcism on the Lawn," Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia Center for Politics tweeted.

I watched every minute. Sickened by their torchlight parade up the Lawn. Outraged by their behavior at the Rotunda. Beyond disgraceful. https://twitter.com/JustCallMeFoxy/status/896211624490668032

Charlottesville Mayor Mike Signer released a statement referring to Friday's rally as a "cowardly parade of hatred, bigotry, racism, and intolerance march down the lawns of the architect of our Bill of Rights."
"Everyone has a right under the First Amendment to express their opinion peaceably, so here's mine: not only as the Mayor of Charlottesville, but as a UVA faculty member and alumnus, I am beyond disgusted by this unsanctioned and despicable display of visual intimidation on a college campus," he added.
Friday's march took place shortly after a federal judge granted a temporary injunction allowing right-wing activists to hold Saturday's rally.
City officials had tried to "modify" the rally's permit to move the demonstration from the park with the Lee statue more than a mile away to McIntire Park, citing safety concerns.

'We don't want to see a bloodbath'

In February, the city council voted to remove the Lee statue, but that is on hold pending litigation. Two city parks that were named after Confederate generals were renamed, including Emancipation Park, the site of Saturday's rally.
Saturday's event has residents on edge, and more than 40 local business owners near the park have asked the city to protect them.
"I have a lot of fears. I think most of us are just anxious, we don't want there to be violence," business owner Michael Rodi said of the rally.
"We don't want to see a bloodbath, we don't want to see looting, we don't want to see mass arrests we don't want to see the police having to turn on citizens," he added.

Many businesses came together to discuss their rights and how to protect their staff in anticipation of Saturday's event. Others expect to be understaffed, with some planning to hand out water and sandwiches to police officers.
"If diversity makes you uncomfortable, this is probably not where you want to be" reads a sign that hangs in the entrance of Rodi's business.
Jason Kessler, who organized Saturday's "Unite the Right" rally, said he doesn't consider himself to be a white nationalist. But, he said, "we're going to start standing up for our history."
"The statue itself is symbolic of a lot of larger issues. The primary three issues are preserving history against this censorship and revisionism -- this political correctness," he told CNN Friday.
"The second issue is being allowed to advocate for your interests as a white person, just like other groups are allowed to advocate for their interests politically. And finally this is about free speech. We are simply trying to express ourselves and do a demonstration, and the local government has tried to shut us down."

Smh. They knew this group was coming and they didn't even bother to send any law enforcement on the streets. You had a group of 8 or so students surrounded and beaten by these torch waving idiots and no one did a thing.

You wake up this morning and they are still terrorizing the streets.  You put a cardboard sign up at a black lives matter rally and you get tear gassed. These assholes were out here throwing glass and trash cans and nothing happened to them. AmeriKKKa

That speech by Trump was not enough I am sorry.  The leaders of the hate groups specifically called him out and used his name and administration as impetushere for a hate march that many are reporting hasn't been seen this overt and large in decades.

If these were Muslims he would have called it terror attack in a hot minute without even knowing their names.  But more domestic terrorism now with these people trying to mow down counter protesters in cars and injuring dozens?  Where is the terrorism calls?  Call it what it is

He jumped all over Obama for not using "radical Islam" but he employs people Like Gorka that have the audacity to deny these types of attacks.  He is part of the problem he emboldens these people.  He hires people they admire.

Fundraising most likely which is good.  He should be able to get the money flowing.  They still will need to get good candidates forth for midterms

If we dont do well with midterms you can stick a fork in Democrats because we lost more than a few close races in November ...MIdterms are going to be HUGE

so Trump held a news conference finally...denouncing the attacks on demonstrators. This sort of thing has to be called out faster because I feel like race is a powder keg waiting to blow in America ...that whole scene of White Nationalists vs. "others" and the show of intimidation the White Nationalists brought was a mess

of course he's saving face, how does he reconcile the fact most of those folks voted for him and if he goes against them he loses some of the vote, now how many folks feel that way and vote  is another discussion :coffee:

A Tuesday guest on “Fox & Friends” said that the Confederate flag and the pro-gay rights rainbow flag “represent the exact same thing.”

Star Parker, a conservative commentator and author, appeared on the Fox morning show to speak on the deadly Charlottesville, Va., rally over the weekend involving white supremacists protesting the removal of a Confederate statue.

Parker compared the Confederate flag to the rainbow LGBT pride flag, defending Americans’ ability to display their beliefs as a First Amendment right.

“The same people that are demanding that the Confederate flag comes down are the same people that are insisting that the rainbow flag goes up,” she said. “These two flags represent the exact same thing: that certain people groups are not welcome here.”

Parker also responded to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) calling out President Trump’s delayed explicit condemnation of white supremacists, with Parker saying that she believes Pelosi is violating the First Amendment with her suggestion.

“So if Nancy Pelosi wants to say that we’re going to start shutting down First Amendment rights of a certain group of people, then what happens the next time that the homosexuals want to walk through an American city and protest and counterprotesters come out?” Parker said.

Parker added that there is currently a “culture war” between the far right and the far left.

“We don’t want to end up in a civil war,” she said. “We battle in the voting booth.

The Hill

This bitch is a special kind of ignorant.  First she supports Trump and the Republicans who cant stand her ass.  Then goes on Fox And Friends ffs.  Then she comes for gays and says the Pride Flag is the same as the Confederate?  Bitch have several seats.

Barack is coming back to DC this fall to "help" the Democratic party ...in what capacity not sure

He cant come soon enough.  My veins are still popping out after listening to that clown at his press conference today.  Barack can help get the party in shape and give them some spunk.  I dont even know who is running in the midterms.  They are so focused on 2020.  If they dont control all or at least most of the house and senate it won't matter who is elected in 2020.

I hope the brogressives and bernie bots stay the hell out of the way.  We dont have time for their crying about corporate funds and wall street.  Bernie is not going to be president with his old ass so they need to let it go.  We cannot have the republican party anywhere near the oval in 2020.

I LITERALLY had to get up and leave my office at work and go home after I read and saw a few clip[s of that speech today.  Cause I swear to god I would have went off on any bitch that bad the audacity to say a thing to defend Trump today.

That was Trump once again showing EVERYONE who the fuck he is.  Those forced speeches he was clearly made to give yesterday and the weekend were utterly erased today.  Cause he wanted to show you who he was.

Which war did the gays lose to the United States

which protest did gays attack str8 people in a crowd protesting peacefully? Which group has a flag as a symbol of division and hatred? Which group is marginalized and saying we are united to bring together our strengths to an otherwise "weak" minority in this country? The two are NOT the same, not even close, one represents treason to this country and an attempt to over take it, a losing one indeed :coffee:  Gays are simply asking to exist in peace maybe even co-exist dare I say, the "others" are busy saying who and what they DONT LIKE NOR WANT.....I call bullshit :filenails:
