Janet Jackson sells out Sydney shows in fifteen minutes

03 August 2011

by Poppy Reid

Just fifteen minutes was all it took for Janet Jackson to sell out two shows in Sydney this morning.

Jackson's Up Close and Personal Tour will see the singer perform the Concert Hall at Sydney's Opera House on November 5 and 6 with a third and final show just announced for Tuesday November 8.

Paul Dainty, Chairman of promotional comopany, Dainty Group said “Tickets in Sydney were snapped up as soon as they went on sale this morning so we have put a third show on sale, this is definitely the final Sydney performance. Janet Jackson’s fans will get an amazing, once in a lifetime experience on this tour when Janet performs in intimate venues around Australia."

Tickets are still available for the third Sydney show as well as dates in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne and Gold Coast.

These are probably just the pre-sale tickets. The whole venue isn't sold.

Janet Jackson

While she may have started out as just another member of the Jackson family, Janet Jackson (b. 1966) has established herself as a major pop star in her own right. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, she appeared on the TV sitcoms Good Times and Diff’rent Strokes. Her 1986 breakthrough album, Control, which went to Number One, yielded seven hits, including the title track, “Nasty” and “When I Think of You” and asserted her social and sexual independence. In 1989, Jackson went to #1 with “Miss You Much” off of the album Rhythm Nation 1814. With that song, she began a string of 18 consecutive Top 10 hits that would last until 1998. That streak gave her the third most consecutive U.S. Top 10 hits of all time, besting brother Michael by one and coming in just behind Elvis Presley and the Beatles. Having sold more than 100 million records worldwide, Jackson is ranked as one of the best-selling artists in the history of recorded music.

She should be top 3, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

1. Madonna

2. Janet Jackson

3. Mariah Carey

4. Whitney Houston

5. Celine Dion

Wishful thinking.

That's definitely wishful thinking. Those 5 are 80's/90's. There will definitely be tons of women from different decades AND different musical genres. Not just mainstream pop.
