      Planet Janet Rules   07/07/2015

General Rules for Planet Janet Welcome to Planet Janet! The main objective of this board is to express your love for Janet, your opinions, and to interact with an important segment of the Janet fandom.  To enjoy your experience here, below are general rules and guidelines to make your experience here be successful: The N Word Please be aware that the N word is going to be filtered on this forum. Most importantly, this word is not acceptable on this forum in any form; therefore, if it is used again by ANY member on here, it will result in an immediate and permanent ban. Consider this the first, only, and last warning regarding this. Music Download | Copyright Infringement Illegal download links to music from any artist are not permissible to be posted on this forum at any time. If you have posted an illegal download link, you must take it down immediately. Failure to remove the links, and/or subsequent, repeated offenses will result in disciplinary action up to and including a permanent ban from the forum. Fan Threads of Other Artists Generally, we like to keep threads and/or topics about other artists within an Official Artist Thread.  This helps to eliminate clutter and redundancy throughout the forum and allow a one-stop shop to view comments on that particular artist not pertaining to Janet.  If there is HUGE news related to an artist and generates a lot of discussion, it is okay to have a standalone thread on that topic outside of the Official Thread. A good debate is OKAY in the Official Threads of other artists.  Official Threads are not complete sanctuaries of devotion of that particular artist; however, there is a need to be civil with other members.  Please refrain from personal attacks and arguments that devolve into personal attacks. Additionally, do NOT use Janet as means to defend an artist.  This forum is made in her honor, and putting her down to boast your particular artist is prohibited. Exercise good judgment and common sense.  If not, then the moderating team will exercise disciplinary action depending on the egregiousness of the action.  Please utilize this announcement as a first warning. Personal Attacks

Each member has a warning percentage - most of them are at zero right now but a few have been warned before. Each warning is worth 10%, and once it gets to 100% the member is automatically banned from the forum.

Each time a member gets into an argument with another member that includes personal attacks, if it is reported or viewed by a member of the moderating team, each participant in the personal attack will get an increase in their warning percentage.  They will be notified via PM, and, prior to posting again, will receive a receipt acknowledging that warning before they can post again. The Moderating Team will never divulge a member's warn percentages on the forum or to other members.

What this means is you are now responsible for your own future on this forum. The Moderating Team will not keep asking you to stop and being ignored. Learn to let things go and learn to moderate yourself before posting; if you end up banned it will be your own fault. Personal attacks and include attacks on one’s race, age, religious creed, color, gender, national origin, physical, mental or visual disability, medical condition, ancestry, marital and military status, pregnancy or sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and general physical appearance/looks. Depending on the nature of the personal attack there will be corrective action up and including permanent banning. If you have any inquiries about your warning percentage, feel free to PM a mod for an answer. If you need any clarification on the rules, feel free to reach out to The Moderating Team.

A quick glance through the charts, sales, and pop culture thread should tell you everything you need to know. ;)

In the 80's she wasn't that big at all until the latter part of the decade with only one successful album under her belt going into her sophomore Jam and Lewis project 1989's Rhythm Nation, I would say Janet's biggest impact and best body of work came from late 1986 through 2001, which makes Janet a mostly 90's artist, she is second only to Mariah Carey I believe for the 90s

It's also interesting ,to me at least ,to note that Janet signed the largest recording contract in artist history, follow the money not so much stats and that, because basically the recording world saw Janet as a huge valuable asset. Janet got something like 24 points off each album sold which was unheard of, for example, I was watching an interview with the 90's group En Vogue, and they had a bad record deal at 2 points off each album split 4 ways

Janet's touring history was massive she did arena tours with very elaborate staging for most of her touring history, and she accomplished this in markets outside the US from Europe to Asia, and Australia. They love Janet in Japan I believe it was the RN tour she played back to back sold out nights in the Tokyo Dome which is a stadium.....people have to give credit and not forget Janet was a black female artist that crossed racial boundaries and toured the planet successfully. That was not the rule for black female acts, but rather the exception, only a handful of Black females can claim as much as Janet, all names would be familiar. The only market I can think of Janet never has hit is Latin America

I mean this thread topic is such a loaded question because there is so much to answer that, like Austin said check that thread out. I mean there are so many stories of artists that love Janet and were inspired by her and they just wanted to meet her and when they did they end up crying and slobbing ...think about that being a living legend people just want to meet so bad

Ok so i got done watching her specials like mtv icon and lifetime achievement awards this is why im such a stan for her because she achieved so much at a young age by the early 90s mtv gave her a video vanguard award and i watched a video of janet sweeping the billboard awards im like OMG i never seen a artist other than Michael Jackson and whitney  sweep a awards like that people were giving standing ovation when she walked across that stage than i think it was 1997 they gave her tribute and she was still in her peak thank you so much and to see people like britney and beyonce and countless others give a other tribute to her

I wouldn’t say ‘huge’

Yes,  while WHYDFL, and to a lesser extent Nasty and WITOY were hits WW, she basically flopped single wise outside the states during the RN era. Her promotion outside the states got much better by 1993.

Nah. Janet got into UK Vogue with RN1814, which was unprecedented for Black women at that time, performed for the Queen and sold out a few shows across western Europe. There's a French magazine from the RN1814 era calling her the Queen of Pop. The album performed well in Oceania. MYM peaked at #2 in NZ if I'm not mistaken; album went #1 in NZ or Aussie, I forget which one. There's also a known date missing from the tour because the RN1814T went to Singapore. Album is certified in Hong Kong as well. Only places that's not really known regarding performance are SA and Africa.

It's a stretch to imply she wasn't popular outside the states with RN1814. She definitely was.

Actually Janet has performed in Africa, so the only place left is SA. I think the RN world tour speaks for itself in terms of her popularity
