For him to be the person who lashes out about any thing said about Janet it’s odd that he feels that her treatment was partly justified.

You hit the nail on the head. It doesn’t even make any sense to debate with him any further because he literally is obtuse on the subject.

The ban was justified as Viacom was pissed and powerful. They were charged $550k for something they didn’t plan or see coming (which was later dropped).

That didn’t stop janet. Janet just stopped being creative and had nothing to say between 2004 & 2008 🤷🏾‍♂️

I’m sorry you feel I am obtuse even though I literally lived through it as a fan of hers

I’m say Janet Jackson was everywhere between 2004-2008 besides radio and nothing stuck.

But how could anything stick when it wasn't allowed to? Her promotion was all HER, that's why she was out & about & doing things that Janet had NEVER done doing interviews & photoshoots with publications she never had, she was fighting against the machine. And the sales were off that, off seeing her, off the existing fans, she promoted So Excited more than she has SO many of her biggest & greatest hits, that was the only way she could promote and even get people to know she had anything out, and whether the average gp viewer liked it or not, they  couldn't support the song on major radio formats.

Plus too about the creativity thing, it was taking a dive already by 04, but what we also know is Discipline is the only album where she willingly gave up control on all fronts, DJ she was forced to do more songs and change up alot of things last minute including the direction of the album, the same is known to have happened for 20. We honestly don't know what she originally had planned for both projects but she was forced into last-minute reworking

Damita Jo went platinum.. sales doesn’t equal Quality. Damita Jo was Janet’s worst album (quality-wise) since Dream Street.. hands down (before was born Discipline).. there’s another side.. that she don’t hide but  never show... which side did she show that was different?

Damita Jo’s theme was sex (and love) which was 1) stupid/unoriginal 2) already done by her.

Nice opinion lol

So Exicted is literally the worst example. Zero creativity went into that song about sex which the general public was soooo over at that time and she promoted it waaaay too much for waaaay too long. Put that on top of Radio being agist.

While her promo was ALL HER.. She was every where and millions of eyes watched her or read about her. Nothing stuck bc nothing was worthy aside from Feedback.. harsh reality.

Giving up control for Discipline is not who Janet Jackson is therefore that album is a wash. She had nothing to say and she sure didn’t say anything on it. It was a disappointment.

im not here for “change of direction” and “change of sound”. What she released was the bottom of her barrel career-wise

....the GP being over songs being about sex but the biggest songs that year were about sex (London bridge, sexyback, promiscuous, Check On It, Money Maker,  and Me&U)....

It's a harsh opinion, but what's a harsh reality is she could've released the 2nd coming of Rhythm Nation and very little would change the outcome of where she is right now because no matter what she put out, radio wasn't gonna fuck with it or her. That's the harshest reality of her career.

Those aren’t by Janet Jackson... which is what I implied 🤦🏾‍♂️ Janet also was 40+ when the shit hit the fan compared to the age of the artists you named.  Radio is agist (and sexist)

You can’t compare “reality” and “hypothetical” in the same sentence. I’m not here for “coulda”... in reality she didn’t release that. In reality she released crap music. End of story

The end of the story is that with a ban on all things Janet for the gp, the outcome would be exactly the same, and no matter anyone's opinon on the quality, the music wasnt going to be promoted on all levels, period. :coffee:

Janet was only banned from Viacom. Not all things. She had plenty of exposure.. more than enough if the music was something which it wasn’t. That’s a fact back up by shit reviews from critics and the fact she over promoted shit singles that wouldn’t land WITHOUT radio support

Nitpicking and likes from like-minded individuals doesn’t prove your point. Y’all just passing the blame. Something JanFam LOVES to do. Don’t blame Janet for her failures...just her successes 🙄

FACT: The radio ban didn’t force her to perform AN(ds)/S.Ex over and over and over and over.

Nah the fact that she was banned from mainstream radio and award shows proves my point entirely :lmao:  Yes that's what happens every single time any artist flops, not only are your songs banned from radio and their back catalog too :lmao:  Your problem is you're literally victim blaming, she was done wrong in her treatment, and you're  here to justify it, putting it ALL literally on her. Fact is even when we do praise her success we praise the entire team and what others contributed, which is what the right side does with where things go wrong, maybe YOU put all god AND bad on solely her, but that doesn't speak for all of us. And what her appreciation day has taught us is that right now even the gp is more on our side, the era of placing 100% of the blame of women's mistreatment is dead and gone, wake up dear this isn't a fan thing anymore this is a society thing :coffee:

FACT: Radio didn't fuck with her PERIOD, new or old music they wanted nothing to do with her, and it literally had nothing to do with the songs with the music.

She was banned from Award shows :lmao: You sure?

Viacom was mad... Janet’s action caused that. Her actions. No one else’s. She had the opportunity to make killer music but played it poorly and sexually. Two things she shouldn’t have done

FACT: radio doesn’t fuck with most women  over a certain age.

FACT: her new music (not focusing on old bc that’s not relevant to post-2004) wasn’t up to par

Are you really trying to say she could've just gone to the Grammy's, that them asking her not to was just alleged? :lmao: are you sure about that

Again, victim blaming & slut shamming aint cute today, it was in style back then though.

FACT:  radio doesn't/didn't automatically ban most artists over 40 period, but they did her

It's so weird, you keep saying that like it mattered but it literally didn't and you're the ONLY one saying it did....because everyone knows....radio would give her "killer music" as much attention as they gave the ones she actually did released.

1a) wow. The Grammy’s.. oh no.. Janet couldnt present an award...https://www.popsugar.com/celebrity/photo-gallery/26216421/image/26218810/Janet-Jackson-Jermaine-Dupri-2005

1b) You said “Award shows” yet she performed at numerous shows during her darkest hours

2) I’m not slut shaming or victim blaming. The facts are there. The music wasn’t up to par.

3a) Banning = no playing new music; Yes radio will “blacklist” artists based on age. It’s not the same blacklist that Janet experienced but similar

3b) Britney Spears was blacklisted years ago from radio but somehow didn’t release crap (yes she’s a Barbie doll and had very little creative control)

4) It literally does matter that the music wasn’t up to par. She’s a musician and if the music ain’t good then it ain’t good. No amount of promo or “radio” play is going to change that. Not now.. not ever

5) Radio is agist.. they would have pushed her aside regardless

No she doesn’t. She literally showed up with Jermaine Dupri in 2005 when Damita Jo songs were somehow nominated

Fact: You made that up

Fact: Janet doesn’t like sitting at award shows. So if she ain’t winning, performing, and/or presenting, she ain’t going

WE all know it could've and would've sold more had she not been banned. Also what else was she supposed to sing about? She already sang about taking control with the "Control" album and talked about "respect, abstinence, stalking a crush, and material relationships" with songs like "Nasty, Let's Wait Awhile, He Doesn't Know I'm Alive, and Pleasure Principle. With the Rhythm Nation album she talking about education, friendship, trust, society, children, and breakup with songs like "The Knowledge, Alright, Lonely, Rhythm Nation, Living In A World They Didn't Make, and Come Back To Me.  The "janet." album talked about love, sex, being a black woman, cheating and whatever else. The Velvet Rope we have domestic abuse, lonely, taking responsibility for your actions, our black history, losing loved ones, and depression. All For You talked about losing friendships, expressing to someone how much she loves them and even though she's confused she hopes they'll both give it a shot by being together, how she worked for her career, looking forward to a brighter future, loving someone for what's inside instead of out, dating, and a scorned ex out to get her for everything. Those songs would be "You Ain't Right", "Feels So Right, "Truth", "Better Days", "Doesn't Really Matter", All For You", and "Son of a Gun". I mean what else do you want the woman to talk about. She had literally covered everything by the end of the All For You era.

Not made up Jermaine probably got her to go just to show them she's not bothered, she herself said "I just got my invitation the other day"

As for the music it still doesnt matter how great it was if radio has decided to punish you by not playing yo shit :filenails:

Given the fact that she rarely fucked with the Grammy's being banned from presenting 1 of her industry friends who was in the decline of his life respect (something she only agreed to do for artist she REALLY loved & respected) for her to still be banned from doing so was bigger than her attending the next year, point is she was banned from doing something meaningful to her and Luther. Also most of her award show performances between 04-08 were from black shows

That's basically a shoulda coulda woulda, you're saying it "woulda" happened anyway when we both know theres exception to that and just like it "coulda" happened that way, without a ban  and with proper promo she "coulda" been the exception

You're saying the music and image was too sexual for her age, yet for the last 11 years at the point of 1994, by that point and as recent as the era before, her biggest hits were primarily about sex in that time, it wasn't slowing down for her, and she's implied (and easy to tell) it's her favorite thing to sing about, so if that what she feels like expressing and talking about she has that right like any other does, and those songs deserved to have a shot on the radio.

And no, that's implying EVERY single hit is and always has been a critical masterpiece in order to be successful, but that's not how it works, Mixed reviewed songs go on to be mega hits all the time, it's all in the promotional vehicles, and that's why it doesn't matter, because her vehicle was JUST.HER. not radio. And at that time without radio....it literally doesn't.matter...period...again.

Yes made up

if you have to use the would “probably” “Maybe” “I think”... you’re literally making it up

🤦🏾‍♂️ What aren’t you people getting? Yes radio banned her. Cool!!! Got it. Had it.. don’t care about it

the quality of her music which is a stone cold fact, decreased between 2004-2010

Janet’s promo tour was amazing between 2004-2010

🤦🏾‍♂️ This isn’t about rando artists. This is about Janet who has had a 20 year career at that point. Where she can bypass radio if she had solid songs.

Reading is fundamental

IT IS NOT ABOUT SALES (to you it is)

What else could she have sang about? Maybe her mistreatment. Or her current life like she did between 1986-2001 as you unnecessarily broke them down for no one.

One word: Unbreakable >> an entire album with barely any over sexual songs... produced by her best producers. Classic Janet. No shit producers, no JD.. songs written by Janet and not for Michael. Critical acclaim. Best album since AFY for a reason

She was just releasing music to do it between 2004-2010

Um she probably does because it was for something meaningful and it's brought up these days as an example of her unfair treatment

:lmao: So you think I said ONLY black award shows? That's what you got from that. I'm not the 1 ignoring that she had a full on radio block, that's you.

And? The point remains, you're still playing "shoulda woulda coulda" (a game you said earlier you have no interest in playing), you're implying people don't have hit's about the same subject for decades?

:lmao: WHAT?!?!? THAT MAKES NO DAMN SENSE 🤦🏾‍♂️ you REALLY believe that she was going to somehow get hits and on par album sales without radio and with JUST better music :lmao: (again "shoulda woulda coulda" AF), that's not how it worked for both singles and albums in those days, you could get away with that in the 2010's....but none of the 3 albums in question are from that time, they were of the time when you had to have a full machine to promote properly to get substantial results

That question literally is only about you, thus you're not only in small company in the fanbase that's 100% blame Janet soley for everything that went wrong, even non-fans and the gp that are now aware of the facts that she was mistreated in those times.....sounds like you gotta ask that question to yourself, why are you on the side of oppression?....and so adamant in staying on that side?

Not here for “probably” or “I think”.. just facts.. FACT: She went to the Grammy’s a year after she was uninvited

No. I know she would not garner any hits from 2004-2008 bc of the poor choice and quality of the singles. With or without radio. She had a STRONG promo for those albums and got zero results due to poor music quality and over promoting terrible singles (S.Ex, All Night)

The media didn’t mistreat her. Just Viacom. Everyone else was pleasantly nice to her.., giving her magazine covers, movies, opening for award shows, talk shows, and closing pointless talent shows

Answering a question with a question is meh. Answer my question: why can’t you admit that Janet released bleh sex music between 2004-2010 which directly hurt the fan base

PS: the general public ignored her for 10 years before giving her an “appreciation” day which was overshadowed by the Super Bowl 👍🏾 They definitely weren’t paying attention like I was during Janet’s dark ages of music
