  1. Wow. I do remember Stephon and thought he was hilarious. I definitely thought he was older and am shocked and saddened to hear this news. I feel like I need to start avoiding these threads because I knew what it was about before I clicked but my heart dropped.

  2. Thank you!

I’m so grateful to be able to have another spin around the sun. I think about where I was last year and some of the changes I’ve made, and I’m just incredibly grateful.

    Thank you again!

Don't know why  I thought of this thread today.  But, it shows how 4 years ago a little microcosm of us talking about how crazy it was to be living in a time where people actually voted for that Orange clown.

Fast forward to today where we officially evicted him.  A lot of us have moved on, the boards a lot quieter but here we are finally.  Hope everyone whos still around is thriving and being safe in the pandemic .

Same!  I hardly got any sleep this past week checking so many different outlets regarding this election.  Joe Biden wasn't my preferred candidate, but, I needed Trump out.

I felt a HUGE sense of relief when it was announced, and then was overwhelmed with joy with the enormity of history that was made with Kamala.  It's been interesting to watch her ascent as she was my congresswoman years ago, and I remember when she was AG thinking she probably had potential to make it on the national stage.

    What a ride.

Now, we just have to wait a couple more months, but I do worry about what he'll do once he comes to terms with the fact that he did indeed lose.  My fear is that he won't be a lame duck president and will do some more detrimental things on his way out.

    Hold on.

YES, we know the media can be manipulating and project a skewed agenda to fit a certain narrative. Thats COMMON KNOWLEDGE, however....Trump only uses the "FAKE NEWS"  phrase to deflect and draw attention away from his reckless actions and shady dealings that have been DOCUMENTED. So yeah, its only "fake news" when ppl find out his dirt. So he is hardly the person to be trying to stick up for with your "whether you like Trump or not" speech. Its a ploy for him. Nothing else...so please Stop before you get too far ahead. This is Trump we're speaking about. You dont reside in America, correct? If not, then please sit this one out cus you guys are HEARING about what goin on with Trump, while we're EXPERIENCING whats goin on with Trump

    Thank you!

It’s one thing to be hearing it from a friend and reading and watching it. It’s a completely different experience to literally be LIVING it.

Im sorry i havent been around on here, super busy with work.  I think about him everyday, i did - go through and listen to a bunch of our recordings from over the past... almost T W E N T Y  years!! we were like 12 and 13 years old when we started it and i laughed and i know that's what he would want is for me to laugh because, we truly had so much fun doing the entire thing and then, recording the songs and the remixes and the extreme dark comedy of it.

to be honest, i dont think i can continue the bunifa character any longer on here. I will of course put a link to the Google drive for a "greatest hits" album for any old fan that wants it or as bunifa would say "any honey child that wants some of the hits baby" lol.  But I wont be posting as bunifa any longer and I think its had its run, and with him gone its different now.

    thanks so much

    Paul

oh - AND MAKE SURE YOU GO VOTE!!!!!

Totally understand. It was a beautiful and fun chapter that’s closing and you’re heading into a new season.

And yes: please vote if you can!

Yeah that's a good album and it may surprise some of y'all but I like the "All For You" album better. Lyrically and dealing with substance it can't compare to the "Unbreakable" album but as far as tracks All For You is the better album

It actually doesn't surprise me lol.  I'd still take Unbreakable, but I have this weird affair with AFY.  When it first came out, I LOVED it, then I stopped playing it for awhile, but now I'm back to enjoying it.

ok so let's be honest. Were Janet's voals on Unbreakable part of why y'all didn't care for much of the music?

I absolutely love Unbreakable and put it above much of her later albums and it still gets a ton of replay from me.  It's just not as strong as TVR, and there's nothing wrong with that, because TVR is one of the best albums I've ever heard.  Unbreakable was a return to form; TVR was an elevation.

there is no connection between structural racism in the USA and this pop song. You're confusing

With this logic, "black cat" is a problem as well. The title speaks about gang and using the term "black". It's discriminatory for black people

I’m not confusing and for those that know, know. This isn’t a new topic and was discussed at length on the old forum. For those that understand Black culture in the US, they see why it would’ve been problematic and this discussion was had back in the early 2000s before folks started talking about structural racism to this extent openly and wouldn’t make as silly as a comparison as the one you just made. Sorry if you don’t get it.  Maybe you should consider opening up your network instead of making quick judgements on my board. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I get what you're saying but she's been consistent with what? Her last few projects after Diet Squirt all flopped and she's had no hits until jumping on Megan's track Savage.

Staying relevant.   Think about it:  Single Ladies came out in the late 2000s.  Think of the artists that were out at the time.  How many of them are still being talked about in the same breath and reverence as Beyonce?  That's staying power regardless of how she performed on the charts.  She's starting to age out of Pop Culture, so her sales won't be the same; however, she's managed to still be talked about.

    'A little update...

So it turns out a "frenemy" of mine I went to school with was Pauls half brother. I knew Pauls surname was Drummond and then eventually gathered they were related...I thought cousins. However, I met with a mutual friend (of mine and frenemy) this eve. I'm sad to tell you all that the cause of his death was suicide.

It really hit home with me. I've been close to the edge of doing something similar in the past, but never have. I know its been echoed in the thread, but many of us have been connecting here over years, some have met, some not. But there is a common bond...the love of our Queen. I'm a bit in my feelings at the moment,  but id like to think I could try and help somebody. Maybe some cant be helped...and I don't know what the circumstances were with him. But he seemed to have such a zest for life...you would never think, but you just never know.

I guess what I'm rabbling on about is I hope nobody feels so low, so alone that they would need to do that. I know its only this forum, but if anyone can help, even just "talking" on here, let us know.

Thanks for coming back to this and sharing.  When I read some of the comments on the memorial page, I had a suspicion it was that, but to read it and see it confirmed, hurt my heart.

I hope whatever his beliefs are, that he found peace that eluded him in this life.

I have known of Paul since 2001 (was one of the first members that stuck out to me when I joined jj.com), as he was so freaking memorable and charismatic... and I had never even met him, nor spoken to him.

I just want to say that I'm glad that even at your lowest moments in life, you're still here and with us.  As others have mentioned, we are not as active as we used to be, but this is a community I've been a part of for 19 years and it holds a very special place in my heart.  I came into this family as I was coming of age, and the memories, and lessons learned here, played such a critical role in helping to shape my worldview.  Please never doubt your impact, y'all.

  11. I do think for Millennials, Beyonce is the biggest star of her generation.  What she has over the folks you mentioned is longevity.  The others fizzled out while she still remained relevant and that helped to grow her name/story.  Do I think she has a big machine behind her?  Yes, but she's used it to her benefit so more power to her.  Personally, I think she's a fantastic performer, good singer, and good dancer.  Her music isn't for me and hasn't been for me in many years, but I respect her hustle and work ethic to do what she needed to do to become BEYONCE.  My iPhone even corrects the proper spelling of her name which says a lot about her stature.  It'll be interesting to see what happens to her as she continues to age and what she continues to do as Pop music is very fickle with women, but Beyonce has been consistent.

  12. I didn’t know of Toxic but it explains why I like the song so much. I did know of Slave 4 U and I’m glad Janet turned it down.

I hear a few days ago. Slave 4 U was also given to Janet and she declined for obvious reasons. I'm still shocked Pharrell offered a song with the word "Slave" in the title to a black woman.

I feel the same way. But then again Pharrell was talking that “New Blacks” mess  a few years ago, so I shouldn’t be surprised. He hasn’t aged right since.

Oh really? I have feeling she will do it just like she did the popular african dance as the throb breakdown. I haven't heard this new african song but I might give it a listen. I hope Janet will be able to teach Eissa about his people's origins of Africa when he's capable of comprehending that kind of stuff. She'll be 60 when he's 10.

Yeah. Her last two popular tweets are people dancing to the song. It’s called “Jerusalema” by Master KG. I think the song has over 100 million views on YouTube now. It was released months ago and then started to really take and the dance went viral. I think she tagged the artist in her tweet

She seems to be in an Afrobeat kind of mood which in some ways I’m wondering if she’s hinting about her musical direction.

And I too hope and believe that she will teach Eissa.
