  1. It’s interesting to me in that I know of her, but I only know two songs by her. It’s amazing what willful ignorance can do.
  2. I know. Hence my statements before and after Mariah. I mentioned Mariah since everyone kept making comparisons to her, and in some cases to throw unnecessary shade.
  3. What I would like for Janet is for her and her team to post all her videos on YouTube on her VEVO account. I saw some traction on the Got Til It’s Gone video on Twitter a couple of days ago. I went to YouTube to go play it because it really is one of my favorite videos ever, and I could only find a fan account... that was posted nine months ago. I’m not even saying she needs to certify her stuff and she doesn’t need to be Mariah because for all of her greatness, she’s extremely insecure, lacks accountability, and can be very money hungry (she’s also selling Mariah cookies). But she should care about what she gave her life to and she should care about it more than her fans. And I wouldn’t be surprised if Black Diamond doesn’t happen until 2022.
  4. As long as it’s near the end of the week or on a weekend, I’m good. I’m now Central time (I’ve been moving around the last few years). I’ll be flexible
  5. I believe she cooked it. I think she’s mentioned before that she can make sweet potato pie.
  6. Wow. I do remember Stephon and thought he was hilarious. I definitely thought he was older and am shocked and saddened to hear this news. I feel like I need to start avoiding these threads because I knew what it was about before I clicked but my heart dropped.
  7. Thank you! I’m so grateful to be able to have another spin around the sun. I think about where I was last year and some of the changes I’ve made, and I’m just incredibly grateful. Thank you again!
  8. Same! I hardly got any sleep this past week checking so many different outlets regarding this election. Joe Biden wasn't my preferred candidate, but, I needed Trump out. I felt a HUGE sense of relief when it was announced, and then was overwhelmed with joy with the enormity of history that was made with Kamala. It's been interesting to watch her ascent as she was my congresswoman years ago, and I remember when she was AG thinking she probably had potential to make it on the national stage. What a ride. Now, we just have to wait a couple more months, but I do worry about what he'll do once he comes to terms with the fact that he did indeed lose. My fear is that he won't be a lame duck president and will do some more detrimental things on his way out.
  9. Thank you! It’s one thing to be hearing it from a friend and reading and watching it. It’s a completely different experience to literally be LIVING it.
  10. Totally understand. It was a beautiful and fun chapter that’s closing and you’re heading into a new season. And yes: please vote if you can!
  11. You are hating. I LOVED this freaking tweet. It was HILARIOUS! I ignore a lot of her other posts, but I cackled and shared this tweet with my family, which I never do.
  12. It actually doesn't surprise me lol. I'd still take Unbreakable, but I have this weird affair with AFY. When it first came out, I LOVED it, then I stopped playing it for awhile, but now I'm back to enjoying it.
  13. I absolutely love Unbreakable and put it above much of her later albums and it still gets a ton of replay from me. It's just not as strong as TVR, and there's nothing wrong with that, because TVR is one of the best albums I've ever heard. Unbreakable was a return to form; TVR was an elevation.
  14. Wow. Another one. That hurts. I remember the parodies and entertainment. RIP and I’m so sorry you lost a dear friend to you.
  15. I’m not confusing and for those that know, know. This isn’t a new topic and was discussed at length on the old forum. For those that understand Black culture in the US, they see why it would’ve been problematic and this discussion was had back in the early 2000s before folks started talking about structural racism to this extent openly and wouldn’t make as silly as a comparison as the one you just made. Sorry if you don’t get it. Maybe you should consider opening up your network instead of making quick judgements on my board.
  16. Staying relevant. Think about it: Single Ladies came out in the late 2000s. Think of the artists that were out at the time. How many of them are still being talked about in the same breath and reverence as Beyonce? That's staying power regardless of how she performed on the charts. She's starting to age out of Pop Culture, so her sales won't be the same; however, she's managed to still be talked about.
  17. Definitely TVR. I kinda want to beat your ass for this, but we have a history of friendship, so I'm going to let it slide. Love you.
  18. Here's a quote from him: “The New Black doesn’t blame other races for our issues.”

    Paul

Thanks for coming back to this and sharing. When I read some of the comments on the memorial page, I had a suspicion it was that, but to read it and see it confirmed, hurt my heart. I hope whatever his beliefs are, that he found peace that eluded him in this life. I have known of Paul since 2001 (was one of the first members that stuck out to me when I joined jj.com), as he was so freaking memorable and charismatic... and I had never even met him, nor spoken to him. I just want to say that I'm glad that even at your lowest moments in life, you're still here and with us. As others have mentioned, we are not as active as we used to be, but this is a community I've been a part of for 19 years and it holds a very special place in my heart. I came into this family as I was coming of age, and the memories, and lessons learned here, played such a critical role in helping to shape my worldview. Please never doubt your impact, y'all.
