Homosexuality runs in the black community and to ignore us and compare us to “abandoners” and toxic masculinity, the same masculinity that killed him, shows what kind of person he was

Thank goodness there are real black male celebrities changing the landscape (Dwayne Wade) while making a difference

He didn't ignore homosexuals nor compare homosexuals to abandoners or toxic masculinity.  That's my point.

Well, he listed homosexuals with "hyper violent" and "abandoners"... it's pretty clear he did not think of homosexuality in a positive light or else he wouldn't have taken issue with the "agenda" of their representation. I don't really buy his explanation afterward. It's pretty cut and dry homophobia.

Difference of thought.  I think he listed the types of African-American men on portrayed in the media.

You’re smart? :umm:  It’s homophobic to pretend/blame gay black men on the downfall of the black community. Yo pit gays on the same level as violence and “abandoners” and then pretend there’s a homosexual agenda (paranoia/conspiracy theory).

That’s not acceptance or equality. That’s homophobic rhetoric and toxic masculinity.. which ironically killed him 🤷🏾‍♂️

You continually put words in his mouth that he did not say. He even addressed this for those who like to bypass logic in his tweet to Deray when he said "I don't look down on gay people I love all Gods children foreal." [sic - where necessary].  Homophobia is the dislike or prejudice against gay people.  He never said that he disliked gay people, he actually clarified stating the opposite of this.

Now, to the actual image, if you look at the language of the post that got everyone riled up - his address is to the portrayal of (black) men in pop culture. Never once did he pretend nor blame that gay black men on the downfall of the black community.  He simply addressed that a certain image of (black) men was often left out by the [media]. There has been numerous of well-researched articles on the lack of depth in images of black characters - not just black men.  Deray alludes to such lack of imagery in his quoted retort. Furthermore, he never "puts gays on the same level" as anything but lists the type of portrayals that he has seen more often. The fact that you, Deray and others chose to look down upon certain men that fit into certain categories while requesting that everyone uplift the gay plight - is interesting, to say the least!

Then to tie this back to his agenda message, Nipsey believes that preventing or limiting how (black) men are portrayed is part of an agenda.

    Now, where is the homophobia?

You can disagree that there is an agenda. But homophobic - based solely of the things you just most recently posted? Nah!

“Demonstration speaks louder than Conversation," he wrote under a photo of a group of black youth. "They gone feed us every image of our men and boys but this one. No hyper violent...No homo sexual...No abandoners....JUS STRONG BLAC MEN AND YOUNG Men. RESPECT TO MY BIG HOMIE @bigu1 for Leading with love and intelligence. GOD IS WITH US WHO CAN GO AGAINST US"

His response.. doubling dumb-down on a conspiracy theory

     Now, how is this homophobic?

  5. A life ending prematurely is enough to mourn about whether you agree with their principles or not.

While you may not agree with some of his instances, Nipsey also did a world of good in the Los Angeles community to help progress the working class African-Americans that are often overlooked, to bring pride to an area that has been downtrodden, and was attempting to garner peace and a reduction in gang violence and an improvement in police and community interactions.

    RIP Nip.

trackboy has officially posted the most controversial list known to man on ANY forum of ANY artist. 😂

The part that killed me the most was DJ ranking above RN ..

there is not an emoji that exists that could even remotely express how i felt about that

I think Rhythm Nation is a better album but I don't frequently bop to it. I listen to a song from Damita Jo frequently though.  I can't really say I ever get in the car and am like let me hit play on Rhythm Nation 1814. Not that kind of driver lol

  7. I like this. My favorites have shifted a bit as I have matured, experienced life, etc. and I'm only going to do the 9 starting with control.

    1. The Velvet Rope (No skips. But favorites in no particular order are Empty, Rope Burn, You, and Got Til It's Gone, and I Get Lonely. Whole album)

    2. All For You (almost no skips. Come on Get Up, China Love, Someone to Call my Lover, Trust a Try) (song to skip: Love Scene)

    3. Damita Jo (Like You Don't Love Me, Truly, I Want You (which I abhorred when I was younger)) (song to skip: Moist)

    4. Rhythm Nation (Escapade, Love Will Never Do, Miss You Much) (song to Skip: Lonely)

    5. 20 Y.O. (This Body, Take Care, Love2Love, Roll Witchu, Daybreak)  (song to skip: Call on Me, Enjoy)

    6. Discipline (Curtains, LUV, Rollercoaster) (songs to skip: Never Letchu Go)

    7. janet (You Want This, Any Time, Any Place, That's the Way Love Goes, If) (Skip: 18-28 with the exception of Anytime, Anyplace)

    8. Control (Let's Wait A While, Funny How Time Flies)

    9. Unbreakable. But only because I've had less time to live with it than her other albums. Less moments to tie to songs but I love the album.

My favorite Janet Jackson song of all time though is Runaway😍

    We’re back! Thank you!

I got to see the Columbia, SC show last Saturday, and I seriously cannot explain how amazing of a time I had. A lot of people showed up late, but the energy of the crowd all night was great. I went with 3 friends: 3 of us are in our 30s and one is 22, and we met up with others and just jammed all night. I saw pics of Fantasia there but never saw her. I’m obsessed with Dom (her facial expressions and dance skills) and guero (big crush) now. I couldn’t believe how beautiful, tiny, and athletic Janet is at 51. I had 8th row seats but I still kept staring at her on the screen to see that perfect smile.  She just looked so HAPPY and at peace on stage. The dancers stayed at the same hotel I did, but I was trying not to be a creepy stalker and look for them. Lol. It sounds like she might be taking the tour over seas in the new year. Excited if J keeps doing stuff through 2018.

I was in Columbia as well.  Right next to the stage right.  Saw Gil and her Trainer which was fun.  I had a time.  I really felt as though this tour was the best one of the last 3.

  9. As the new youngest person in this thread - age matters in the fact that I'm not interested in dating someone I have to wonder about if they're old enough to get into an establishment but nor am I interested in dating someone too old to where I have to worry about if they can keep up!
