Maybe it's a grower - not in love with it at this point. Despite the heavy hitting producers on this, not overly impressed with the production, her vocals stay in the same scream mode throughout and the key change seems unnecessary and distracting.

Looking forward to this. She's an incredible talent, and her performance aesthetic is unmatched. Her only weakness, in my opinion, has been her unwillingness to work with really GREAT producers (NOT Dj's) who can help her put together a really great, coherent album that explores different elements throughout. Don't get me wrong - I loved The Fame Monster, Born this way and parts of Art Pop, but sometimes they felt a bit heavy-handed and like there weren't many layers beneath the loud dance production and loud singing. I'm REALLY hoping that the direction she goes with Ronson will prove to be a magical reinvention for her. She deserves it.

The only thing iconic enough would be the Rhythm Nation uniform. Janet was all about the performance, not being flashy with her fashion. She was extremely fashionable in a very sophisticated, beautiful way, not campy.

Some of y'all are discounting Gaga's impact because she hasn't stayed on the pop MUSIC scene as hard core as others. However, the woman's impact has been all over the damn place: Since 2011 after her initial take-over during The Fame / Fame Monster: 1) "Born this Way" becomes an anthem for the gay rights movement (with or without the stupid Express Yourself controversy), and really still is today. 2) Appears on Tony Bennett's Duets album, and then goes on to RECORD AN ENTIRE JAZZ ALBUM WITH HIM, WINNING A GRAMMY FOR IT. (who does that?) 3) Turns in absolutely show-stopping Oscars performance doing a Sound of Music tribute (again, who in pop music does that, and well???) 4) Stars in American Horror Story: Hotel....and wins the damn Golden Globe for it. 5) Turns in one of the most iconic super bowl performances of The Star Spangled Banner of all time 6) RETURNS the Oscars stage to turn in yet another show-stopping and moving performance in tribute to college campus rape victims 7) Announces new album with Marc Ronson as its main producer - the buzz is real 8) Announced to be starring in and writing music for a re-make of the iconic Barbra Streisand movie, "A Star is Born" So, regardless of how Art Pop was panned (she was primed for backlash), she has consistently reinvented herself in ways that other pop stars could never dream of doing. That's REAL pop culture impact in my opinion. I honestly think she's pretty limitless in the directions she can go.

OH yes, I definitely noticed this back in 1993 when If came out. I honestly felt that the choreography was a rip off of Cold Hearted Snake the first time I saw it, but If was more ground-breaking in style and artistry. CHS was a bit cheap feeling compared to If. That being said, it was truly Paula flexing her dancing muscles, and you knew at that point that while the choreography may have started to date itself, there was really no female in the pop/dance world that dance like that. Those spins and stops...

Mine is Dammn Baby. Regardless of the preference on the vocal production, this is a quality jam that I like more and more every time I hear it. And when it gets to the little part right after the breakdown in the middle - "Watchin' em all go....OOOOHHHHH, Watchin' em all go daaaaAAAAMMMMNNN BABY," I get ALL the feels. Those layered vocals are classic Janet/Jimmy/Terry perfection.

BHH is def about MJ. She talks about them doing chores and singing together and how he went away in the summer. Then she says she says she will see him in the next life. Not a stretch there...

Oh I agree she was terrible, but I think Jimmy has a bit more tact than to openly trash another artist's performance unless he has motivation to do so. He's much too professional.

Within the last 4 years, which is why I said relatively, considering Janet had been pretty absent from the scene for quite a while. Madonna made a point to take those digs at her regarding her Super Bowl performance (about it not making her interesting because she showed a tit). Gil then went crazy on her (embarrassingly so) through Twitter, and now Jimmy's getting his in.

Very nice remix! Now, the perfect ALBUM version would have been the original instrumentation/production with THESE vocals.

I personally loved the Madonna jab. She deserves it. I'm sure Janet's closest friends are pretty fed up with the shade Madonna's thrown her way relatively recently.

Just goes to show that power doesn't always equal better. Quality vocals and proves the natural talent J really has.

Ironically it was Velvet Rope. I was younger and wanted that banger of a lead single, and it didn't provide me that. Then when listening for the first time I just didn't know what to think. I was...intrigued? But I wasn't head over heels. It was just soooo introspective and unlike the Janet i knew and loved. Of course, it soon became the theme album of my life at the time, and now it is and will always be amazing. All for You didn't really ever totally grow on me. And everything between that and Unbreakable are filler to me.

What's cool is that sure she's not "charting," but the quality of of her output is pretty universally acclaimed. It's not like she's not charting because she put out a shit album. Im pretty disenchanted by what's on the the radio these days, so Unbeakable was a HUGE breath of fresh air to me. I would not have expected it to be successful by today's low standards.

Truly gorgeous song. Beautiful chord changes, lyrics and vocals. J emotes lots of emotion is the delivery of this song. One of my faves.

Agree to disagree on this. I agree with "some fans" here. I WILL agree that I wish her vocals were mixed differently, the rest of the production is gold, though.

semi-weak? I think DB is a strong ass song. Is it bubble gum dance enough for pop charts? No. But weak is not what I would describe this song as.

Unbreakable by a country mile. I actually skipped over DJ most of the time. Unbreakable is inspiring and has gorgeous layered harmonies and a powerful Janet vocal lead. Well written and wonderfully performed. Just too SHORT! Hahaha

I'm down for it. I don't care if Janet ever does another interview. That's not her thing, and I like that honestly. Just continue to put out quality work, and yes some visuals would be nice, and I'll be content

Not sure it will get played just because of the pop radio climate these days, but you never know I guess. This song is definitely quality and would appeal to a good bit of the general public if it reached their ears. That remix above is interesting. I think I like it, and I KNOW I like her laugh at the end! I hope one of the remixes is the one Jimmy was working on the studio with her voice unfiltered.
