Mr. Wonder
Could have sworn GTIG had already been certified.
bu.
I read recently the the BPI now automates it's certifications. So I researched how Janet managed to play into it: JANET FT Q-TIP & JONI MITCHELL - GOT 'TIL IT'S GONE Silver Certification (Single) 22 July 2013 UNIVERSAL MUSIC (VIRGIN) Released JANET JACKSON - THE BEST Silver Certification (Album) 22 July 2013 UNIVERSAL MUSIC (A&M) Released 23 November 2009 http://www.bpi.co.uk...ied-awards.aspx not as much as I desired but it's something.... I would be gagging if the RIAA follows suit. I never really checked her certifications in the UK so I'm posting hem here . Thanks for posting because otherwise I wouldn't have bothered lol. JANET JACKSON - DAMITA JO Silver Certification (Album) 02 April 2004 VIRGIN (VIRGIN) Released 29 March 2004 JANET JACKSON - ALL FOR YOU Gold Certification (Album) 27 April 2001 VIRGIN (VIRGIN) Released 23 April 2001 JANET JACKSON - DOESN'T REALLY MATTER Silver Certification (Single) 20 October 2000 MERCURY (MERCURY) Released 07 August 2000 JANET JACKSON - JANET 2 x Platinum Certification (Album) 09 October 1998 VIRGIN (VIRGIN) Released 17 May 1993 JANET JACKSON - VELVET ROPE Platinum Certification (Album) 01 May 1998 VIRGIN (VIRGIN AMERICA) Released 06 October 1997 JANET JACKSON - TOGETHER AGAIN Platinum Certification (Single) 23 January 1998 VIRGIN (Unknown) Released 01 December 1997 JANET JACKSON - GOT TIL IT'S GONE Silver Certification (Single) 31 October 1997 VIRGIN (VIRGIN) Released 22 September 1997 JANET JACKSON - DESIGN OF A DECADE 1986/1996 2 x Platinum Certification (Album) 01 March 1996 A AND M (A AND M) Released 25 September 1995 JANET JACKSON - THAT'S THE WAY LOVE GOES Silver Certification (Single) 01 June 1993 VIRGIN (VIRGIN) Released 26 April 1993 JANET JACKSON & LUTHER VANDROSS - THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE FREE Silver Certification (Single) 01 September 1992 AANDM (AANDM) Released 20 July 1992 JANET JACKSON - RHYTHM NATION 1814 Platinum Certification (Album) 01 October 1990 A AND M (A AND M) Released 13 September 1989 JANET JACKSON - CONTROL - THE REMIXES Gold Certification (Album) 26 November 1987 A AND M (A AND M) Released 06 November 1987 JANET JACKSON - CONTROL Platinum Certification (Album) 25 May 1987 A AND M (A AND M) Released 20 March 1986 JANET JACKSON - LET'S WAIT AWHILE Silver Certification (Single) 01 April 1987 A AND M (A AND M) Released 09 March 1987 JANET JACKSON - WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY Silver Certification (Single) 01 May 1986 A AND M (A AND M) Released 10 March 1986
Mr. Wonder
U.S. - 352,000 + (double disc over 100 minutes, thus it counts twice; last Soundscan number 175,892 [2011]). U.K. - 100,000 + Japan - 20,300 + Canada - 10,000 = 482,300 Given the dated figures for the compilation, it's safe to estimate that #1s/TB has sold about 500,000 globally. Rock & Roll Hall of Game
I'm sure it has shipped Gold then. It won't ship gold until it hits 450k+.. yes.. a 100k does matter
Kennita Jo.
It has to ship 250k to go Gold.
Mr. Wonder
I'm sure it has shipped Gold then. It was such a wasted opportunity. It could have at least done a million had it been promoted in Asia, Down Under, and as a break into the South American and Latin markets. When the album was released in the 80s/early 90s pre Soundscan. i actually went to find for you SloLove but couldn't find it for Control and Rhythm Nation. That was unheard of back then ..even MJ hadnt done that back then

janetDAYZ
Yes. A4U opening sales did place her in the top 10 biggest opening sales of female artists but Mary J's holiday sales kick that she was on..slowly started pushing janet out the Top 10.. its like the 13th or 14th biggest opening wk for a female .or sumtin like that
SloLove
Can't believe TVR opened so low...is this what most females opening week sales were back then Mariah, Whitney, Madonna?
RedSimba
^ Yep, most of them. In the 90s sales weren't so frontloaded, it was all about consistency over time.
Mr. Wonder
Where do you get all this info? What were each of her albums opening week sales? Did they do that back then? I found it all while waiting in the airport for a flight I was 4 hours early for a few years back. The opening sales for albums in the 80s was often low. Albums back then would ascend the chart to #1, rather than just debuting at #1.

DOAD opened with 127k first week. It eventually sold 4 million+ stateside.
