*French certifications have changed over the years and they've decreased the amount an album/single has to sell to achieve its certification. So what's posted is a low estimate.

A French sales site has Janet as follows:

Albums: 994,361

Singles: 1,545,137

Total Records: 2,539,498

How did you find this? :excited:

I was searching all over the ARIA site for about an hour looking for her certifications. <_<

Pre-1997 certifications are extremely difficult to track down online. I hate that you can only search ARIA's database from 1997 and onwards (they've been promising for years to rectify this and make their complete archives accessible :sigh: )

Singles | Albums (scroll all the way towards the end)

I spent quite some time looking for the ARIA sales, that and some other European countries. France was like the hardest because of the changing sales levels, plus I'm a little rusty on my French so I had to translate. >_<

There's also the fact that every Janet album pre-DJ is under certified, so there's no way of getting an accurate figure for her in any country. :sigh:

Researching sales is tough work. -_-

Very true. Hell, they haven't even certified Control here yet and I refuse to believe it hasn't at least gone platinum after all these years.

And I'm learning that the hard way. :asham:

I believe it has. Control had two top 20 hits. RN1814 had 5 top 20s and went double platinum. Control has at least gone platinum.

It's worth it, though. This thread is great.

And quite a few of the singles from Control and RN remain uncertified as well. :sigh:

Oh, I forgot to add Feel It Boy, that went gold as well in Australia.

Germany

Albums

janet.

Gold - 250,000

Design of a Decade

Gold - 250,000

The Velvet Rope

Gold - 250,000

All For You

Gold - 150,000

Total = 900,000

Singles

Together Again

Platinum - 500,000

Total = 500,000

Total German sales = 1,400,000

*Note - Germany changed their sales certifications for albums:

Anytime - 9/24/1999

Gold - 250,000; Platinum - 500,000

9/25/1999 - 12/31/2002

Gold - 150,000; Platinum - 300,000

This accounts for the discrepancy for album sales certifications.

It surely is, and thanks. ^_^

I think WHYDFML has gone gold account to a fan site. It peaked at #6. Would you say that's a good estimate considering it's peak?

Added.

Japan

This is all I could find. It reads:

"Janet In Japan: Pony Canyon Inc. president Akira Ljichi, right, awards Janet Jackson a platinum disk for her album "Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814," which sold more than 400,000 copies in Japan. The presentation took place backstage at the Tokyo Dome, where Jackson was performing her first concert in that country."

Back then with a #6 peak it would've definitely gone gold (and gold was 50,000 units at the time, too).
