The best have the least Grammys ;)

this is kinda true, more like the most popular acts have the least in some ways, I remember the big comeback Mariah made and they gave album of the year to U2, not that U2 needed anymore they only have like 17 or something close. I actually made someone Black mad at me because we were watching the broadcast and I said between Kanye and Mariah I think Mariah should win album of the year, she had the biggest comeback and at the time no one thought she had a career to comeback to yet there she was and the album was solid. I guess because Im Black Im supposed to support only Black acts like Kanye. SMH

Ugh, I'm still behind.

On the 7th day of Christmas, Janet gave to me, 7 samples on an album that sold 20 million copies.

37233.gif

  • "That's the Way Love Goes" samples "Papa Don't Take No Mess" by James Brown.
  • "You Want This" samples "Love Child" by Diana Ross & the Supremes and "Jungle Boogie" by Kool & the Gang.
  • "If" samples "Someday We'll Be Together" by Diana Ross & the Supremes.
  • "New Agenda" samples "School Boy Crush" by Average White Band, "Kool It (Here Comes the Fuzz)" by Kool & the Gang, and "Superwoman (Where Were You When I Needed You)" by Stevie Wonder.

I was already a fan of James Brown (I had no choice to be if I didn't want to be disowned by my father) before I knew about the sample in TTWLG, but I've really come to enjoy "Papa Don't Take No Mess". I only have the 4 minute version because I am NOT buying the entire album just for the 13 minute version.

The good thing about Janet's sampling is that it introduces her fans to other artists, particularly ones that have inspired her - Stevie for one.

the Grammy people were mostly old who voted they wanted to reward acts they thought would represent the cream of having a stick up their ass, so instead of Rhythm Nation being up for album of the year Quincy Jones "Back on the Block" won, Janet. was not even nominated nor was RN for album of the year. It was reported widely that the Janet. album was "slighted" to say the least, some music critics thought it was at least a shoe in for Album of the Year Nomination. AFY lost best vocal to Nelly Furtado sadly, but I never had faith the Grammys would ever say Janet could sing, they just wouldn't do it.

in 1991 Janet was up for Best Rock Vocal Performance female and lost to "Black Velvet" backstage while during the post win interview the act that recorded the song "Black Velvet" said and i quote because I remember all this no looking up needed, this was back from my stan days.... "we thought Jackson was going to win it but we see there's justice after all".......Alannah Myles the winner for Black Velvet never had another hit again.

I had ordered this grammy history book back in the 90's which had all the grammy nominations from back in the day, and it had specific moments for each category. Janet was predicted and expected to win that grammy that year. It was pretty much an upset in that category. So your memory is in tact and this further proves that maybe the grammys have something against her.

Im sensitive when it comes to Janet I don't forget any slight, my stanism has died down, but it was in full force back in my day, I remember watching Kathy & Regis Live the day after the 1995 MTV video awards where Scream won and Janet wore the "Pervert 2" shirt, Kathy Lee commented, well some people have no class in reference to Janet....I was hot....and online back then it was the Miss Janet forum, I cussed cause I was mad, and the board members they were like smurfs back then all sweet and nice, so cussing was like posting porn here they got all riled up

Still trying to catch up.

>_<

On the 8th day of Christmas Janet gave to me, 8 weeks at #1 in 1993.

Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks: #1

The Billboard Hot 100: #1 (8 weeks)

Hot 100 Airplay: #1 (10 weeks)

Rhythmic Top 40: #1

Top 40 Mainstream: #1

Hot Dance Music/Club Play: #1

Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales: #1

Hot Adult Contemporary: #16

Hot R&B Airplay: #1

Hot R&B Single Sales: #1

Hot 100 Single Sales: #1

Holland: #5

Belgian: #12

UK Top 75: #2

UK R&B chart: #1

Swiss Chart: #11

Finland: #5

Canada Top 100: #1

Germany: #9

Bavarian Single Charts : #6

Australian Singles Chart: #1

South African Single Sales: #1

New Zeland: #1

Hungary Singles Chart: #1

Japan: #1

ARC Top 40: #1

MTV Europe: #2

"That's The Way Love Goes" became the first & only single in history to enter the Billboard Hot R&B Airplay chart at #1.

"That's The Way Love Goes" becomes the biggest selling single of all time in South Africa, going Platinum 4 times over, and spending 9 weeks at #1 on the Top 100 Singles chart, and 44 weeks in the Top 100. The most weeks at #1 and the most weeks spent on the Top 100 Singles chart in History.

Originally, "If" was supposed to be the lead single from janet......, but Janet sticking to her guns decided to come in real smooth. A departure from big dance number Janet, and displayed a more sensual side. No choreography, no dance beats, just Janet and her payroll the kids.

What's amazing about TTWLG, is that is showed the world Janet was good or more than just a dance music artist, and that what she does has class to it.

71.gif And unlike the other girls who shall remain nameless, her risky single went to debut at #14 on the Hot 100, the highest debut for a single at the time (or something like that), and went to #1 two weeks later where it sat for 8 weeks, with 4 weeks at #1 on the R&B chart, and 10 weeks at #1 on Hot 100 Airplay, and later becoming the 18th biggest song of the 90s.

1987: Best Choreography in a Video: Nasty

1988: Best Cinematography in a Video: Pleasure Principle

1988: Best Choreography in a Video: The Pleasure Principle

1990: Best Choreography in a Video: Rhythm Nation

Of course this doesn't include the 1990 Video Vanguard Award, which Janet received after just 12 videos. :coffee: If you look at the awards, you can see how well-rounded her visual artistry is. She's been honored for her dancing, her videos, and the cinematography. It's clear her bread and butter is her visual artistry.

On the 10th day of Christmas, Janet gave to me, 10 books of the Bible albums that have sold over 100 million copies.

1zyjxxk.jpg

Janet's artistic evolution is essentially perfect. From being a young 15 year old girl, to a 46 year old woman, her growth as a person and artist is what the general public has come to love about Janet. She has gone from singing about puppy love, to adult themes and subject matter like domestic violence, self-awareness, and feminism. What's also impressive about Janet's catalog, is the amount of success it has seen. The only other Black woman who can match Janet's level of sales is Whitney Houston. Janet was selling R&B, and was selling comparatively with her peers. Furthermore, the bulk of Janet's success comes from 6 albums, 150 million records.

The diversity of content, lyrics, and sounds is what has helped Janet appeal to not only the urban audience, but to people of all races, ages, gender, etc. Songs like RN, You, WHYDFML, and ATAP have help listeners connect to Janet as an artist, and as a person.

Her landmark 4 - Control, RN1814, janet., TVR - are among the most acclaimed albums of all time by the top critics, and making her, and her catalog one of the most honored and acclaimed women in history. Her albums and songs have inspired artists from MJ to Britney to Kendrick Lamar. Janhova's influence knows no boundaries. -_-

On the 11th day of Christmas, Janet gave to me, an introduction to cocaine at 11 at Studio 54 in New York City.

Of course Janet went a bit overboard only 28 years later before The Velvet Rope.

What's amazing about this story is that Janet was in Studio 54 at 11 years old.

:umm: There was all kinds of sex and drugs being done everywhere except on the ceiling. My kind of place. :shifty: And they let this pre-adolscent in there pussy popping on a handstand to "Love Hangover" and what not. :umm: But at the end of the day, I'd still go there. -_-

Who knew Studio 54 was so klassy?

On the 12th day of Christmas, Janet gave to me, 12 AMA nominations from Control in the 80s.

114119296.jpg

Control holds the record for the most nominations from one album, 9 nominations in 1987, and 3 more in 1988.

1987:

Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist

Favorite Pop/Rock Album - Control

Favorite Pop/Rock Video - "When I Think Of You"

Favorite Pop/Rock Female Video Artist

Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist

Favorite Soul/R&B Single - "Nasty"

Favorite Soul/R&B Album

Favorite Soul/R&B Video - "When I Think Of You"

Favorite Soul/R&B Female Video Artist

1988:

Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist

Favorite Pop/Rock Video - "When I Think Of You"

Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist

Favorite Soul/R&B Video - "When I Think Of You"

Now I don't know much about algebuh, but when I was doing the research, I counted a total of 14 nominations and wins.

:umm: I'm not sure if someone on Janet's team doesn't know much about algebuh, but I suggest they write a retraction. :umm:

In any event, what's amazing about this long-standing record, is that it shows the longevity of Janet's albums back in the 80s and 90s. Control was released in Feb. of 1986, and was still being nominated for awards nearly two years after its release. Janet lost a lot of these awards to Whitney, and understandably so since Whitney was massive in 1986. In 1987 and '88, Whitney was already on her second album, while Janet was still milking Control.
