TwistedElegance™
Writer: Babyface Producer: Babyface Label: Motown Boyz II Men bow out of 1994 as the year's biggest single, 'I'll Make Love To You', claims ninth spot. Written and produced by Babyface, the song was the lead single from their sophomore album, II, and spent a record-tying fourteen weeks at No. 1, sharing the crown with Whitney Houston's 'I Will Always Love You'. The group would later break their own record with 'One Sweet Day'. Along with follow-up single 'On Bended Knee', Boyz II Men set a record for most consecutive weeks in the US Top 2. The week of August 20, 1994, Boyz II Men moved 31-2 with 'I'll Make Love to You'. The next week, the single moved to #1 and remained there for 14 consecutive weeks. It was succeeded by the follow-up, 'On Bended Knee'. That song dipped to No. 2, returned to No. 1, and fell to No. 2 again, remaining there until the week of February 11, 1995, for a total of 26 record-setting weeks. 'I'll Make Love To You' won the Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and matched its No. 1 success in Australia. TwistedElegance™
Writer: R. Kelly Producer: R. Kelly Label: Blackground/Jive Taking out eighth spot for 1994 is the late Aaliyah with her debut single, 'Back & Forth'. Written and produced by R. Kelly (who himself scored two Top 20 hits of his own that same year), the song tells the story of a young girl ready to celebrate the weekend over a thick New Jack Swing beat. Certified gold by the RIAA, 'Back & Forth' ruled the Hot R&B Songs Chart for three weeks in 1994 and rose to No. 5 on the Hot 100. Globally the song was not the success it was at home in the US, but it did manage a Top 10 slot in Canada and a peak of 16 in the UK. TwistedElegance™
Writer: Prince Producers: Prince, David Foster Label: NPG, Bellmark, Edel Exiting the countdown at No. 7 is Prince with 'The Most Beautiful Girl In The World'. Released at the height of his label drama with Warner, the song is rumoured to have been written the day after the son of an executive from the label told Prince he didn't have another hit record in him. Launched by a clever publicity campaign, several magazines carried a silhouette of the pop icon's face with the message: "Eligible bachelor seeks the most beautiful girl in the world to spend holidays with." Coinciding with Valentines Day, Prince unveiled the song on CBS's Miss America Pageant and it quickly became a worldwide hit, topping the charts in Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Netherlands and the UK where it remains his only No. 1 single. In the US it reached third position and the song marks the last time Prince has seen the Top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100. In 2009 an Italian court ruled that Prince had plagiarized the song in referring to a 1983 song called 'Takin' Me To Paradise' by Raynard J, written by Bruno Bergonzi and Michele Vicino. Bergonzi told Billboard magazine after the ruling: "When we first heard Prince's song we immediately took action, but this case has been dragging on for fifteen years and it isn't over yet, such is the slowness of the Italian legal system. We only decided to go public with our story now." Prince's then-wife Mayte Garcia recorded her own version of the song titled 'The Most Beautiful Boy In The World' which appeared on her 1995 album Child Of The Sun. This is why you should continue to write these . I didn't know anything about this song except that it's great.
