TwistedElegance™
Being overlooked is a commonality for TLC. You should be used to the treatment. Used to people mistaking quantity for quality, sure.

TwistedElegance™
Bring up bank balances Bring up Grammys. Bring up TLC's 47% success rate of Top 10s on the Hot 100 to Spice Girls' 36%. Bring up Spice Girls trying to sound like TLC on 'Last Time Lover', then bring up how Mel C wasn't 2 proud 2 beg Left Eye for a collab on her solo album. They knew how things were.

bu.
Define "on top". Louder ≠ better. GLOBAL Impact / Pop Culture / Sales / Fandom / Merch / Investment / Sponsorships - all backed by facts. Music is subjective. Ask a person on the street in NYC who the greatest girl group of all time is - they'll either say The Supremes or Spice Girls. R&B fans would add TLC or En Vogue or even DC. Ask the same question outside of America and you're most likely to get Spice Girls (perhaps Girls Aloud in Europe) as the main answer. Once again R&B fans would add TLC or En Vogue or DC. Spicemania >>>>>>> "Girl power" >>>>>>> Spiceworld -The Movie >>>>>> And the kii is they can't even be called puppets because they all wrote on their songs as opposed to one member and had no Pebbles-like character either. Spice Girls might be overrated, 'cringe' and a piece of the 90's best left in the 90's but they are >>>> Oh and you can all take that "Where are they on the list" comment - they debuted in 1996.

Honey Bu Bu, you muss nut know bout me. If you did you would know I don't do hypotheticals, hence the irrelevant street poll I just scratched out. I also won't cop the "music is subjective" excuse when it's the most vital pre-requisite of the GOAT title. Spice Girls were undoubtedly more fun, hence why things like sponsorship and merchandise followed. But I can go out right now and buy a bedspread and lunchbox with One Direction's faces on it. Does that make them the greatest? Who's calling anyone puppets? There are several ways to infuse a project with talent, smarts and personality which don't require picking up a pen. And just because you do doesn't make the end result infinitely better. Every Spice Girl can attest to that with their respective solo flops both critically and commercially. And this is from a man who LOVES the Spice Girls. They just don't cut it next to TLegendC.

I don't think many in the US would name The Spice Girls as the "greatest girl group". Their overall impact/influence here is limited, imo. They are too associated with "bubblegum pop music". I think you would be surprised how many would pick TLC over The Spice Girls. Internationally, that may be a different story. Either way...
