Whitney Houston funeral to be held at Newark's Prudential Center

NEWARK — The funeral of Whitney Houston has been tentatively scheduled for Friday at the Prudential Center in Newark, according to a local community leader with ties to the family.

The family has not yet disclosed the funeral plans other than to say it will be in Newark, where Houston was born.

The arena, which seats more than 18,500 people, represents the largest indoor venue in Newark and could accommodate far greater crowds than the New Hope Baptist Church, the red brick house of worship that served as Houston’s childhood church.

The source declined to be identified because he was not authorized to speak for the family.

If plans proceed as expected, the service would take the route of Michael Jackson’s 2009 public memorial service at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, which brought out tens of thousands to bid the pop icon’s final farewell in a star-packed event that included appearances by Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, Mariah Carey, Usher, Kobe Bryant and Magic Johnson.

But what most people remember from the Jackson service was the tearful goodbye from his little-seen daughter, Paris, who told the crowd, “Ever since I was born, Daddy has been the best father you can ever imagine. And I just wanted to say I love him so much.”

This is so very sad. Working in a pharmacy and frequenting the club scene, I'm still shocked how readily available xanax is. Both xanax and klonopin and valium and similiar benzos are ridiculously addictive and very strong. As far as legal use, the biggest problem is they are being prescribed for major depression and manic depression disorders instead of real anti-depressants like paxil, prozac, and effexor that build in your system. Xanax should be taken AS NEEDED for major panic attacks and the like or MAYBE for people who have attacks before flights. But people also use them to come down from drug highs like meth, etc when the want to sleep or mix with alcohol or viagra for sex highs. Doctors really need to monitor use and refills better, even with people who need it.

Oprah To Honor Whitney Houston With Special On OWN

Oprah announced on Monday that her cable network, OWN, will air special programming to honor the late Whitney Houston.

Set to air Thursday night during prime time, OWN will broadcast a two-hour special title, "Remembering Whitney: The Oprah Interview." As the title indicates, the special will be a re-air of Oprah's 2009 interview with Houston.

In what was widely believed to be the mark Houston's comeback after years in an abusive marriage and excessive drug use, the superstar sat down with Oprah and gave one of the most candid interviews of her career. Houston opened up about her "drug of choice" and detailed how her mother, Cissy Houston, brought police to Houston's home to stage an intervention.

Following the news of Houston's death, Oprah tweeted about her admiration for the music icon. "To me Whitney was THE VOICE. We got to hear a part of God every time she sang. Heart is heavy, spirit grateful for the GIFT of her," Oprah wrote.

Whitney Houston's Death To Earn Dolly Parton A Fortune

After the untimely death of Michael Jackson, his estate made a fortune due to a sudden renewed interest in his catalogue. According to insiders, however, the same will not happen with Whitney Houston.

"She was broke -- her label gave her advances," a record company insider told me. "And unlike Michael, you have to remember that Whitney didn't write any of those massive hits. They were songs that Clive Davis told her to sing and she did."

One of Houston's biggest hits, "I Will Always Love You," was actually written by Dolly Parton, who will receive the writer's and publisher's rates when the song undoubtedly gets a boost in radio and television performances.

"On records, the typical mechanical royalty paid to the writer/publisher is about 8 cents per radio performance," a successful songwriter told me. "That would all go to Dolly. Whitney is only the singer. She receives an advance from the record company based upon anticipated album sales. Figure that's around $2.00 per album. But all of the costs to record the album, promote the album, videos, etc. are all recouped from the artist's share."

As in Houston's case, it is very possible for artists to sell millions of records and end up owing the record label money. In fact, most artists don't make money from record sales, but rather from ticket sales -- a revenue stream that will no longer be a source of income for Whitney's estate.

"Whitney was living off of advances -- loans from the record company -- and had been [for] quite some time," the insider said. "Most likely the estate owes the record company a ton and future sales will be used to pay back that loan before any money goes to the estate. The songwriters, however, will make a bundle."

Whitney Houston consumed alcoholic beverages shortly before she died, and the mix of prescription drugs and booze could have produced the fatal result.

TMZ has obtained photos of the room where Whitney died, showing remnants of her final meal. We're told she ordered a hamburger, fries, a turkey sandwich and jalapenos. The picture also shows a Heineken can and an empty champagne glass. Sources say the glass had been filled with champagne.

The picture (below) was shot in the bathroom after Whitney's body was removed and shows a tray which contained the turkey sandwich and jalapenos. Family sources say Whitney ate the burger and fries and took the turkey sandwich and jalapenos into the bathroom where she planned on eating both items after her bath.

If you look closely you can see water on the bathroom floor.

Celine Dion: "Drugs" and "Show Business" Killed Whitney Houston

The cause of Whitney Houston's death remains under investigation -- but according to Celine Dion, this case is already closed.

Speaking via phone on Monday's Good Morning America (she called the late icon "an amazing inspiration") the "My Heart Will Go On" singer didn't mince words looking back on Houston's legendary career and troubled later life.

PHOTOS: Whitney's life remembered

"It's just really unfortunate that drugs, bad people, bad influences took over her dreams, her motherhood," the French-Canadian star, 43, said of Houston, who famously fessed up in a 2002 interview with Diane Sawyer about using cocaine, marijuana and pills. "When you think about Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Amy Winehouse, Michael Jackson . . . To get into drugs like that for whatever reason--because of stress, bad influence, whatever."

Dion lamented that her immensely talented idol, who left behind daughter Bobbi Kristina, apparently succumbed like other superstars before her. "What happens when you have everything? Love, support, motherhood…Something happens that I don't understand. That's why I'm scared of show business, of drugs and hanging out. That's why I don't go to parties!"

Bobby Brown Says Bobbi Kristina Being Looked After By Family Following Visit To Doctors

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. -- Bobby Brown says his daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, is being looked after by family following the death of her mother, superstar Whitney Houston.

“[sunday] my daughter did visit with doctors at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles,” Bobby said in a statement released on to Access Hollywood. “She has been released and is presently with my family, including her siblings.

“Obviously the death of her mother is affecting her, however, we will get through this tragedy as a family,” Bobby’s statement continued. “Again, I ask for privacy during this time.”

Bobbi Kristina, who turns 19 next month, was treated for stress and anxiety on Sunday, a source close to the family previously told the Associated Press.

The teen was taken out of the Beverly Hilton Hotel on a stretcher on Sunday and transported to Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, TMZ reported.

A source told Access on Sunday that Bobbi Kristina was in pretty bad shape on Sunday, less than 24 hours after her mother’s tragic death at the hotel on Saturday afternoon.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Houston died at the age of 48 on Saturday afternoon at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, just before 4 PM.

She was found unresponsive and underwater in a bathtub. First responders from the Fire Department worked on Houston, but were unable to revive her.

Ray J: The Man In Whitney Houston’s Life

ve7s6w.jpg

http://music.yahoo.com/blogs/hip-hop-media-training/whitney-houston-rumored-boyfriend-ray-j-talks-relationship-201151082.html

R&B singer and reality star Ray J, 31, has always denied any romantic link to Whitney Houston, the superstar pop singer who was found dead Saturday in her room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. She was 48, 17 years his senior.

There is no denying the two had a special bond.

Romance rumors began circulating in 2007 when the "I Will Always Love You" singer ended her 15-year marriage to R&B bad boy Bobby Brown. A year later, they were photographed enjoying dinner at Beverly Hills hot spot Mastro's and spotted at the Bernard Hopkins-verses-Joe Calzaghe fight in Las Vegas. Around that time, Ray J (the younger brother of R&B singer Brandy) told People magazine: "We like singing, music, movies. We just watched 'The Pursuit Of Happyness."

When grilled about his relationship, Ray J coyly told "The Insider" last week that it was "hush hush."

"We've always tried to keep our relationship as private as we could, but when we go out she's such an icon it reaches the masses," he said. "But for the most part, we've just been friends and we've always just kept things hush hush and just quiet and we don't focus on that."

Ray J was among the people who were with Houston during her final days. During a club outing last Thursday in L.A., The Hollywood Reporter claimed that he helped diffuse a spat that Houston had with former "X Factor" contestant Stacy Francis.

Though he has yet to comment on Houston's death, Ray J (who famously dated Kim Kardashian) is surely among the many mourning her loss. According to the Los Angeles Times, he was seen with three friends pacing through the Beverly Hills hotel Sunday morning repeatedly muttering, "Whitney dead."

Dolly Parton To Earn a Fortune Off Whitney Houston's Death

We're sure she isn't happy about it, and would much rather Whitney be alive, but Dolly Parton is poised to earn a lot of money off of the post-humous sales of I Will Always Love You. Unfortunately, not much of anything will go to Whitney's estate, as she didn't write any of her own songs.

Here's what insiders are saying:

"She was broke — her label gave her advances. And unlike Michael, you have to remember that Whitney didn't write any of those massive hits. They were songs that Clive Davis told her to sing and she did."

"On records, the typical mechanical royalty paid to the writer/publisher is about 8 cents per radio performance. That would all go to Dolly. Whitney is only the singer. She receives an advance from the record company based upon anticipated album sales. Figure that's around $2.00 per album. But all of the costs to record the album, promote the album, videos, etc. are all recouped from the artist's share."

"Whitney was living off of advances — loans from the record company — and had been [for] quite some time. Most likely the estate owes the record company a ton and future sales will be used to pay back that loan before any money goes to the estate. The songwriters, however, will make a bundle."

That's a major bummer, but completely understandable. We're sorry that she was in such financial distress, but that was the reality of it.

We're expecting to see major numbers from her older catalogue as well, so when those numbers are in we'll have a better idea of how much money is coming in due to her untimely passing!

We miss you, Whitney!

So they're saying she's been living off advances for some time. Well,damn...so she blew all of her (old) money? What about the money from her last tour? What, was she paying the label back? Damn, her not having writing credits seem to keep her in the hole. Its so crazy how finances work in the music business.
