Heathers getting TV reboot

A small screen spin-off/reboot of the 1989 cult classic Heathers is being developed for American cable.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, U.S. cable network Bravo has picked up the series from Jenny Bicks, producer of the cable hit The Big C.

The new show is set twenty years after the film, which starred Winona Ryder and Christian Slater as Veronica and J.D. – a pair of homicidal high school students.

On the new series, Veronica returns to the town of Sherwood with her own teenaged daughter, who is then forced to deal with The Ashleys, daughters of the remaining Heathers from the original film.

THR says the show is part of Bravo's move away from reality programming and into "original" scripted series.

"Through our growing slate of scripted development, we plan to build upon the success of our award-winning unscripted programming, accessing and exploring new worlds and characters while still engaging the same affluent and pop-culture-savvy audience that watches The Real Housewives and Top Chef," says Bravo exec Andrew Wang.

In 2009, Ryder told Empire magazine she was hoping for a sequel to the movie and that Slater had agreed to return 'as a kind of Obi-Wan character.' Michael Lehmann, the director of the original, however, said it wasn't going to happen.

I have no idea what a Heathers is, but I immediately thought of all the references made on this forum. :asham:
