  1. For those who were around at the time of release, what were your memories of this era?

I remember October 7 1997 being a public holiday here, which meant all the shops were closed for the day. I was so pissed šŸ¤£. I had to wait until the following day to get my copy.Ā

I remember getting home after buying the album and playing it immediately and on first listen not being as grabbed by it as I had hoped. I liked it, but didnā€™t love it in the way I loved the janet album. That didnā€™t take long to change though; it grew on me very quickly to the point that I did (and still do) love it.

I remember chatting in the Friends of Janet chat room, and interacting with other fans on the Miss Janet mailing list. The whole Go Deep 3.57 mystery still comes to mind every now and then. šŸ˜Ž

And at the time of me writing this, the new Deluxe Edition of The Velvet Rope is sitting pretty at #6 here on the Australian iTunes album chart, which is pretty cool.

  2. Itā€™s coming, along with the 2018 EP that Made For Now was attached to.

And The Pleasure Principle lingerie line.

And the output from her Lionsgate picture deal.

    šŸ˜‰

Seriously, at this point Iā€™d almost prefer some sort of acknowledgement of #TVR25 and #janet30 next year over a new album.Ā

I do hope though, that if/when a new album drops she abandons the whole Black Diamond idea. Start afresh rather than hang onto a three year old concept.

  3. Not gonna lie, itā€™s a bit surprising. I guess there was never any official confirmation that she would be, for the most part it was speculation, but I would have thought given their history sheā€™d be involved. Maybe, as the article in the link says, there were recording sessions but they didnā€™t amount to much. Or theyā€™re holding them back for a Volume 2 perhaps?

Tracklist (which also appears on iTunes so itā€™s more or less legit) and article at link below.

  4. I think at this rate if we do see it get a release (and thatā€™s a pretty big if - no pun intended) it will be something to do with the impendingĀ 30th anniversary of the Janet album. Given that the albums that preceded it didnā€™t get deluxe edition anniversary reissues I canā€™t imagine Janet will either, but she might release the tourĀ separately in a digital format, much like the Rhythm Nation singles were released digitally to mark the anniversary of that album.

But if it doesnā€™t happen in 2023 I canā€™t see it happening at all.

  5. Question.

Does anyone know who the interviewer is? Iā€™ve been wondering ever since I first got the single and listened to this as an audio track only. She says ā€œYou know, being an actor!ā€ which made me wonder if it was someone relatively well known. Iā€™ve only just discovered the video clip today and was hoping he might have been shown in a quick cutaway, but evidently not.

Iā€™ve tried looking on Wiki and Discogs hoping there might be some information in the credits as there was nothing on the single itself, but have come up with nothing, so I was hoping someone here might know. Itā€™s been bugging me for years šŸ˜‚

  6. The Rhythm Nation album was a strange beast here in Australia. The chart peaks for the singles were all over the place:

    Miss You Much - 12

    Rhythm Nation - 56

    Escapade - 25

Come Back To Me - 79Ā

    Black Cat - 6Ā

Love Will Never Do - 14

State of the World - 94

    Ā

Alright didnā€™t chart here until it was released as a single in the Design of a Decade era, and even then only peaked at 100. For ages I thought it was perhaps not released as a single here back in 1990 - I certainly donā€™t remember it getting the attention that any of the other singles received - but then it charted in New Zealand so it would be weird for it to get a release there and not here (though stranger things have happened). Maybe it just didnā€™t click with the public here. Not surprised that Black Cat was the best performing single though, as rock dominated the charts here at the time.

As for the album, it didnā€™t reach #1 until February 1991. It tookĀ 69 weeks from its chart debut to reach the top where it sat comfortably for four weeks.

  7. 7 hours ago, JoeJoe said:

hmm I used to be friends with another Janet fan with a name similar to yours. I think it was on janet-xone before I got banned lol

Yeah I was on Janet Xone back in 2001-2004 or thereabouts but I donā€™t think I used my own name back then. Must be a different person šŸ˜‰

  8. Hard to say. Unbreakable is definitely her best since The Velvet Rope, and the fact it more or less got rid of the interludes (except for just the one) works in its favour, but I think 20+ years of listening, history and sentiment wonā€™t allow me to place it above TVR.
