Look, I get many Janet fans weren’t too thrilled with JD’s misdirection of Janet’s sound from 20Yo to discipline...I don’t think JD was necessarily the problem but more so he was trying to replicate Mariah’s success (TEOM) with Janet. JD is a creative super producer and I feel like he really could have crafted a unique sound for Janet if he wasn’t so focused on trying to make her “hot”. The expectations were so high for Damita Jo’s followup and the label was pressuring JD to basically recreate TEOM 2.0 but for Janet. I really wish JD and Janet could have discovered a new, innovative sound for her. 

Is Lessons Lord still in the running

Remember pre-2OYO era Janet dropped a cover of “Weekend” on the old Janet site. I remember being a junior in high school and cutting class to listen to the “surprise” on her website. All hell broke lose causing Janet to let us know that wasn’t the single. For the record, I thought Weekend was cute. The 2O era had so many meltdowns from stans. The FHM spread, billboard awards performance, oprah interview.

Why are you surprised? Ever heard of a negro bedwench. Slave masters would often sneak into the slave quarters to have their fun with the black women. 

Black folks still don’t get sexual politics. Sex for a white person is just sex. They will lay up with you, get out of that bed and practice white supremacy. You think that a non-black person coming around you saying “yo, yo, yo...” and listening to rap music actually means something. That’s why we stay losing, looking for validation and acceptance from everyone else but ourselves. Always thought dude was corny and a lowkey white supremacist. I’m happy Janet is getting all this love (chickens come home to roost) but all these johnny come latlies are insufferable. We been RIDING w/ Janet in the fuckin trenches for years. All throughout the dark years of her career when everyone tried to downplay her legacy, shut her out etc. now she’s the second coming? I’ve been waiting for this moment of vindication for the Queen but I’m especially grateful for the diehard fans who rode w/ her through everything she endured
