Singing legend Elton John and his partner David Furnish have become parents after a surrogate mother gave birth to the couple’s baby boy on Christmas Day.

Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John was born in California Dec. 25, weighing seven pounds, five ounces, the proud parents said in a statement Monday.

“We are overwhelmed with happiness and joy at this very special moment. Zachary is healthy and doing really well, and we are very proud and happy parents,” say John and Furnish.

Zachary is the first child for John, 62, and Furnish, 48, who married in 2005 after a 12-year union.

The couple tried unsuccesfully to adopt a European orphan in 2009, but were barred from doing so due to a Ukrainian law which prohibits gay couples from becoming adoptive parents.

It was a holiday baby for singer Alanis Morissette and husband Mario Treadway. According to PEOPLE Magazine, the Canadian-born “You Oughta Know” singer-songwriter, 36, gave birth to a baby boy – Ever Imre Morissette-Treadway – on Christmas Day.

“Alanis Morissette and Mario ‘Souleye’ Treadway welcomed a baby boy, Ever Imre Morissette-Treadway, on Dec. 25th. All are healthy and happy,” a rep for the singer reports.

Morissette and Treadway announced the pregnancy back in August — a “happy” surprise, Alanis, coming only months after she and Treadway, 30, were married at their Los Angeles home in May.
