I think everything was right up to the BET awards. I knew when janet didn't perform, that she was not really interested. And I knew it was going to be a mess when she spelt 'Sleep' with 3 e's. It was such a dumb idea that only confused people and gave DJs ammo to make snarky comments. For me, the perfect idea would have been Damn Baby as the lead single. I agree with No Sleep being the launch single. It was a great way to come back smooth like TTWLG, but Damn baby should have come out not long after as the lead, and performed at the BET awards. I think it was a clever move to launch the tour before the album in the U.S. but there should have been properly scheduled breaks to promote. The Europe leg should not have been as big and it should have been fully promoted. Even the no.1s tour had more promo in Europe. But ultimately, I would appreciate having a few interviews about the music and some videos of janet in depth and not 15 second clips of her lying on a bed.

well they or someone did a pretty great job of 2010-2012. FCG, true you, Number Ones, nutrisystem all had great promo. She was everywhere for the fans. rememer the book signings, the queues of fans, the flash mobs, award performances, American idol, the tour etc.

how is it that even when I make clear I don't expect janet to sell Adele numbers, it still gets picked on as that. I used Adele as an example to make the point that albums can still sell. I don't care if it's rare or if she's the only one. The point is a market for albums sales still exists. Janet hasn't even tried to locate a market, she's only aimed this album at hardcore fans, and they are the only ones who have bought it. But what that has caused has actually meant alienation of her hardcore fans, because they haven't got any visuals or personality. Janet is a visual artist. Same way Michael was.. My point is, an album by a visual artist like janet needs visuals, just as much now in 2016 as before .

Same way Island dropped janet? Yeah, went indepent in 2003, had 3 albums under their independent name and still gave their fans more promo than janet. They did so well that they were signed to a new label in 2015. After this era, janet has no chance of being signed to anyone. No offence to her cause I love her but whose going to sign and artist that won't commit to doing promotion.

LOL at u suggesting 100k is more than just her hardcore fans. People don't buy albums anymore? Look at Adele. And b4 u jump on me for mentioning Adele. No I'm not expecting janet to hit those numbers, but my point is, the market for buying albums is out there. Its history now, but I'm pretty sure, had janet launched with No Sleep and then Damn Baby, a hot dance video, and a proper round of promo, her first week sells would have been more like 250k, not 100k. I've lost count of how many people I've come across who didn't know she even had an album out, or was on tour. They would've bought tickets before the cancellation. There is no one else in music like that, especially not a LEGEND. And for no one to even give us a reason why she's being so quiet. They all know and won't say, Jimmy and Gil etc have all been asked on Twitter and they just ignore it. Janets not listening.

there are lots of examples of independent artists promoting. One if my favourites, the 80s band Simply Red (Mick Hucknall) went independent in 2003. They've had a video for every single since, appeared on numerous tv shows and interviews since and still tour the globe selling out arenas. I'd say Mick Hucknell is worth about 100 million. Janet's worth twice if not more and she can't afford to promote!? It's clearly a choice.

Maybe, but from what I've noticed they don't denounce it. And janet is not associating herself with those modern Muslims from what I can see. She's associating herself with Arabs who live in an extremely misogynistic country both legally and culturally. It is sad that she's now choosing to skip Amfar and go to a Dubai horse race instead.

Exactly! I'm not bothered that she choices to sell diamonds, to me that's cool. What bothers me is that she is doing this after shitting over her loyal fans who wanted a real era with promo and to see her live in Europe.

yeah it's a choice. Just like is a choice to be a homophobe or a misogynist. I refuse to believe she has converted. How could a woman so known for her support of the LGBT community and woman make such a choice? Is it even possible... I think she is just respecting her marriage to her husband.

yeah, going from being a fun loving approachable role model and icon for millions of lost souls to only hanging out with rich Arabs is showing real growth. SUUUURE. I know she is married to one, and so things would change, but this unapologetic new unapproachable Janet is not cool. She's given us a great album and tour, but it's a bit if a piss take when you don't promote that, but will promote diamonds that 99.9% of the world's population could never afford.

He/she is not making it up though is she. He/she hasn't said anything that's incorrect. It is rather confusing when someone you have supported for years, changes in a way that contrasts to what they were before. Its not fair to say just walk away when you've invested years of energy in to someone, who has been a big part of your life. Try to be emphatic. We are all equally fans. Don't be so arrogant.

oh palease lol. Last time any market important enough really noticed Beyoncé was 4 albums ago, "Crazy in love". She's done nothing of popular cultural interest since. She so 'urban'. She was done at B-day. 10 years ago.

Great to see janet back on stage and looking fantastic and well. Just wish it was in Europe though and not in a country where they treat women like crap, but when money is involved we can just ignore that of course.

Talking as a horse lover, I have never and would never have heard of this event if it wasn't for janet performing. It is not biggest event in horse racing. Just because a bunch of filthy oil rich greedy people go does not make it the 'biggest'. Seriously, Janet's PR is such a joke sometimes. The idea that this is a 'popular' event is more a lie than when janet claimed 'nothing' got to no.1. The biggest horse race on the horse racing calendar is the Grand National. It's the one all jockeys want to win.

I don't know his business history, but he seems pretty successful to me. He has a lot of money.. He is not stupid in my view, because I think everything he has said and done so far in the campaign has been carefully orchestrated. He sounds like the New York taxi driver, not a typical sound bite politician. He knows what he is doing. That's why he's gaining so much support. People are responding to what he's saying how he's saying it.
