The drama on ABC’s “Desperate Housewives” continues: the network will announce Sunday at Summer TV Press Tour 2011 that the coming season will be the show’s last.

This past season, it’s seventh, “Desperate” got nicked by NBC’s Sunday football broadcasts, averaging about 12 million viewers. That’s still a number most networks would kill for, but it’s a far cry from the 24 million who watched the show’s first season.

Creator Marc Cherry left the show at the end of last season, but ABC secured the services of cast members Felicity Huffman, Eva Longoria, Teri Hatcher, and Marcia Cross for the coming season, with an option for one more, noted Web site Deadline.com. Former castmate Nicollette Sheridan has sued Cherry over her unwilling exit from the show.

CBS announced in May it’s moving its much younger, three-season old, chick-drama, “The Good Wife” into “Desperate’s” timeslot. ABC would not comment for the record about Sunday's planned announcement.
