  1. As a lifelong fan of Janet and the whole Jackson family, this means so much to me.  It's not that they simply avoid doing interviews.  They are not celebrities just locked away in some tower, but they actually give THOUGHT to their public appearances.

The Jacksons have always been huge proponents of black media.  Anyone ever notice that it was rare for Janet to miss a Soul Train Awards show or Essence?  Yet how many times did she show at the Grammys?  Anyone remember her first public appearance in 2015??  It was at the BET awards.

And now, Janet and Randy are shining the world spotlight on their hometown of Gary, and inspiring young people to reach higher.  It means so much more than just "another interview" could.

  2. So it's possible that Janet just says forget the halftime show, and performs a free concert (or some other big event in the area) during Super Bowl week??

For those unfamiliar with recent Super Bowls,  Super Bowl Live is a big chunk of the week's worth of festivities that lead up to the game.  In Houston earlier this year Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, The Chainsmokers and a bunch of other big bands all performed at this place called Club Nomadic the week before the game.  Solange performed at Super Bowl Live, which is a free concert series.

  3. From the Star Tribune:

    http://www.startribune.com/super-bowl-organizers-plan-ice-stage-walk-in-snow-globe-and-northern-lights-show-in-minneapolis/453625783/#1

The Super Bowl Host Committee began making due on long-promised fun Friday as their producers of free concerts on Nicollet Mall, pop hitmakers Jimmy “Jam” Harris and Terry Lewis, promised a heavily Minnesota-themed lineup — which to them could include NFL outcast Janet Jackson, and definitely will include a Prince tribute.

“This is a great opportunity for us to showcase and be proud of the great music from our hometown,” Lewis said.

Jam and Lewis were to be the stars of the news conference marking the start of the 100-day countdown to the game, but airplane trouble kept the mega-producers from making it into town.

    [...]

“Anything that’s possible, we want it to happen that week, and that would fall into that category,” Harris said of the Time reunion. “It’s one of those things that, when you think about mortality, you wonder how much longer will we have to do it?”

Reuniting with artist Janet Jackson for a Super Bowl-related event would be significant for football and music fans. The two producers worked with Jackson on the hits that turned her into a superstar solo artist.

With Justin Timberlake as the official half-timer performer at the game, the question becomes: Whither Jackson? She and Timberlake had finished the halftime show in 2004 when he pulled down part of her costume, revealing a bare breast during to a worldwide audience.

The excuse-explanation for the incident introduced the expression “wardrobe malfunction” into the global lexicon.

Jam and Lewis said Jackson has not been invited to take part in the halftime show this year, but an invitation has definitely been extended by them to be a part of the Super Bowl Live festivities.

“In our mind, she’s also a part of Minnesota music history,” said Harris, referencing the fact that Jackson recorded many of her biggest hits in Minneapolis and Edina while working with the pair in the — ‘80s and ‘90s. Among the songs Harris and Lewis produced and co-wrote with Jackson are “What Have You Done for Me Lately,” “Control” and “Miss You Much.”

  4. :lmao: let them pout and cry out “ism” :lmao: they’ve been proven wrong already

I am not "them" I am an individual with my own opinions and abilities to interpolate, none of which have anything to do with you. And i've already said on other threads here that i have no beef with Justin Timberlake himself, as he is a product of the same system of privilege and structural racism/ sexism under which we all live, and under which African-American females are continually short changed. I posted the link to the NFL's "ban" "rule out" or whatever the fuck you want to call it because it is pertinent to the conversation. The spokeperson's comments did not say. "One of the names we've ruled out", it said "the ONLY name we've ruled out is Janet Jackson." And that was a full 10 years after her last appearance... you know the same appearance that happened to be left out of the NFL's Super Bowl 50 halftime montage, which had clips from ALL the other performances.

Interpolate that however you want. But know that it cannot and shall not invalidate my opinion.

  5. You literally just changed the url but the message was the same. Maybe you shouldn’t just read the title but the actual article

Reading is fundamental.. The NFL said “ruled out”

Don’t create your own truth to push some boring and tired agenda :lmao:

If by agenda, you mean sharing historical facts, then sure, I have an agenda.  If one wants to call into question both CBS news and TMZ, that is their own personal business.

But my business no longer includes arguments with people on the Planet Janet site.  #NoTime.

  6. Notice that link was from a CBS website bc CBS banned her. Not the NFL

The Super Bowl airs on FOX

Also in the article, it does NOT state Janet was banned.

    reading is fundamental ??‍♂️???

The CBS News article quotes a statement from TMZ...

The NFL has yet to comment on the WSJ's report, but the league did confirm to TMZthat at least one performer definitely won't be making an appearance at Super Bowl XLIV.

"As for potential acts -- we have only ruled out Janet Jackson," a league spokesman said in an email.

This is what TMZ published back in 2014...

    http://www.tmz.com/2014/08/19/nfl-janet-jackson-is-still-banned-from-super-bowl/

They reached out to the NFL again, and the answer has changed.  Convenient??

    http://www.tmz.com/2017/10/23/janet-jackson-not-banned-super-bowl-timberlake/

    NFL= national footbal LEAGUE.  #Reading.

  7. So why let the whole world think there was for over a decade  this screams of backtracking.

The NFL is saying there was never a ban now to try and stem any additional outrage.

In 2014, they confirmed the ban...

  8. That’s promotion. She’s pretty active when she’s doing a public project.

I’m not saying she isn’t planning a song or two... that was in the press release.. all I’m saying is... don’t get your hopes up

"Pretty active" is super general though.  The State of The World Tour feels like Janet is on a mission.  She wrote about it on the Unbreakable album, but the tour didn't accomplish what she hoped (in hindsight, I'm sure fans can figure out why).  Now she's focused and back to finish her mission.

For what she's revealed, that mission appears to be celebrating and reclaiming her legacy as one of the greatest entertainers of all time.  She's going around the country slaying these concerts, and less concerned about whether the houses are a sell-out.  She's in this for her true fans.

  9. a lot of people would lose respect for her for performing with him

That doesn't seem sensible. I guess they are people that have never had to weigh a situation from two sides and then decided to take the side that would benefit them most, even if it's not something they feel they have to do.

We're all speculating at this point anyway. But I'm just saying that IF Janet were announced as a performer, I'd definitely tune in to support her as a fan. If it's only Julissa... err i mean Justin, I might have to skip it. My respect for Janet is not in question over a high profile performance.

  10. There is no "win - win" here. The optics would be terrible.

Huh? How is that?? The second Janet was announced as a performer, it's all anyone would talk about between that moment an the game. And what better time to drop new music than when everyone is talking about you, especially in the streaming era?? Were it me, I'd drop the new album shortly after the announcement to capitalize on that.

  11. I guess I'm just trying to figure out who would benefit the most from this IF there's any possibility it is true. My guess is that the ultimate benefactor from this reunion wouldn't be Janet, or even Justin, but the NFL.

Game attendance and viewership have been down since the mistreatment of Kaepernick started, and they realize that in the divisive Trump era, they are at grave risk of hemmoraghing fans if the race wars continue and they respond to them by silencing players.

So what better way to distract fans from the latest race war, than maybe trying to resolve an earlier one??

Put it this way... IF Janet were to go along with this, I hope she get some major stuff out of it. Like signing an exclusive for her music to be played at games, or something else that's next level. We may be looking at this the wrong way. Behind the scenes, it may be Janet that is in the driver's seat here.

In any event, all will be revealed soon.

  12. Fans who had tickets to unbreakable shows have still heard nothing... not even one scheduled show in Europe

Do you guys think it will happen? it seems kinda unfair..

It's super frustrating for European fans, I know, but I would encourage y'all to hold on and hold out.  There's a lot of things happening with Janet and her camp right now, and I'm sure that a return to Europe and Asia is on their minds (most likely for early 2018).  I also suspect that a cornerstone piece of that strategy has to do with the Netflix doc.

When the tour came to Houston, I actually met the camera man and filmed short interview for it.  Really hope it makes the doc!!  But what I learned is that there is a contingent of European super fans going to most of the shows over here and trying to help stir interest for the European leg of the tour.  Barring some unforeseen circumstance, I am confident that it will happen.

  13. I'm trying to find more information about Janet Jackson's tour revenues... gross earnings at the time and total attendance.  Wondering how State of The World/ Unbreakable will add to her previous tour earnings.

Does anyone have some good info about this?
