  1. to be fair, I feel this thread is necessary Janet fans are people too and we have a right to speak on being let down by someone we have stood by forever....I honestly was floored the ENTIRE European leg just got pulled .....and she barely touched on that, it makes little sense to me because the concert promoters set ticket prices and they know what venues to book so if low ticket sales are to blame, Id also include poor planning, you shouldn't be booking Janet Jackson at 50 in the O2 for 400 pounds a ticket :sigh:

Very harsh, but true. Janet already has a history of not showing Europe love so that should have been more thought of. I think that if Janet was still really hungry for continued success into her later years, she could be one of the bigger legacy tour acts (or at least a respectable one). She still has a spark to her presence and she has the hits. What she needs to add on to that is proper handling of her legacy.

    And, of course, more promo.

  2. TVR gets the win for me too. That album was insight to Janet's pure genius for me. From a personal perspective. To me, "You" being about dealing with yourself & looking yourself in the mirror...THEN using the mirrored concept to spell the word Conscience backwards?!?!????!

My God that entire thought process, so dope & deep. I don't think that gets enough study amongst fans. I actually hate You was a tour video. It should have been Janet battling Janet. & her writing  E-C-N-E-I-C-N-O-C on the mirror.

Cant B Stopped, Anything, VR (entire concept), Empty & Full interlude, just the whole fucking album

BUT Unbreakable is knocking at the door. Dream Maker, Black Eagle, UB, Lessons Learned, Well Traveled, Daamn Baby, Night, Promise of You, Love U 4 Life epic! And I know I forgot one or two. TGF is a song I like, lyrically...but sometimes have to be in the mood for. AYF is deep & I love how deep she went, but it doesn't get much play.

I too am also mad that "You" was just a tour video. I think that if it had used the face masks and costumes she used during its performance and then elevated it for a music video, "You" would be one of her more iconic songs. The whole production on that song is just great too

  3. u said it....she's not hungry for it....Jimmy has said in the past they would be recording but she wasn't into "it" so why are we here? .....in her defense I think there's a part of her that loves her fans so much she wanted to do and give more than she was ready to do

If she's not hungry for it anymore, I at least would like her to go out on a banger. This era (the tour basically) could have gone much better had there been better marketing. I'd hate for Janet to leave a bad taste in people's mouths right before she decided to semi-retire.

Again, this is something that's been stated, but there should be more effort in preserving Janet's legacy. We're probably gonna get the unreleased tours soon (*crosses fingers*) but one can't even find all her music videos officially and in good quality on YouTube. The same for her best performances. Something should be done about that... The simple things can really go a long way.

  4. Any ideas why Janet's so radically changed her approach to fan engagement? And please don't give me that "Indy" or $ bs...

I think the ideas have already been said: she's not hungry for this anymore, her husband, bad marketing and management teams, etc. I've said this before, but I hope that she can spark up more interest for the upcoming dates with this video and some other stuff.

  5. It sucks cause we would have been honored with videos for RnB Junkie and Weekend.  Videos were made for those 2 songs and we never got to see them for reasons we all know.   I know most people didn't like Weekend but damn people went in on her and more specifically her fanbase.  I bet the video for Weekend would have been received a lot better than the song.

There were videos for those two? I would've liked to see R&B Junkie get a video.

  6. I can't believe there's all this hate for STCML! Yes, the lyrics are kinda corny but Janet looks hot in the video, she sounds good and the "Ventura Highway" sample really gives it a nice summer-time vibe. I honestly think it was deserving of being a #1, but that's just me.

Come On Get Up should have gone top 5 and Trust a Try top 20 (big maybe) if they were released commercially.

  7. It has been talked about though.  It would be a disaster.   If anything just re release it with some bonus and behind the scenes footage.  Ice Cube was supposed to play Lucky but he turned it down.  The movie would not have been the same.

Yeah it would be bad.  I always found it interesting that Q tip didn't have any issue with his kissing scene.  No one asked him to take a test?  The whole thing was just weird.

That whole AIDS thing was weird. But I watched an interview that was done the year Pac died and it sounded like he didn't really have any hard feelings toward Janet; I think he wanted to patch things up. I have also heard that Rene was the one who urged for a test. If that's the case, that might explain why Q-Tip wasn't asked

  8. Feedback. It was really creative and the concept was a lot of fun to watch. The CGI or whatever it was still holds up today.

(That black outfit with the ponytail also should've been her RWU tour outfit but I digress.)

I agree with you on the costume part. The Feedback catsuit and hair from the outro section definitely looked better than the yellow catsuit and mohawk Janet ended up using on the tour.

All Nite was a good video. I liked the choreo. I rarely acknowledge the 20 Y.O. and Discipline era videos; they were all kinda boring or just meh. Make Me was too simple to really be anything spectacular as was No Sleep (although the video is cute). Did Nothing even have a video? I know it did, but I remember it being so forgettable when she premiered it on 106, I think.

I hope the upcoming video will be a great one.

  9. I think she will. We are talking about how epic the film was in this thread. Poetic Justice is too big not to be mentioned.  I would rather she not be mentioned though because it will just be about the aids test thing

You're probably right. Bringing that AIDS test up again would definitely make her out to be a bitch. But there's always the small chance that they'd show that in a way that's fair

  10. I think I stated this in another thread previously, but the more time Janet takes to release this video after the Dubai World Cup means the less promotion that event might be able to give her, if any.

The tour starts up again (hopefully) in May so perhaps she will do something to spark interest, at least a little bit. The upcoming tour dates definitely aren't completely sold out (if they were Janet's Team would probably announce it) with seats (sometimes whole sections) still vacant...

I really want Janet to win, but the way things are going, she's allowing herself to lose.

  11. Definitely a classic indeed and probably her most iconic movie role. On the topic of movies, I wish Janet did an action movie like she said she wanted to. I heard she got offers to do a lot of them like The Matrix in the late 90's (someone confirm this) but chose to go on The Velvet Rope Tour (which was definitely a tour worth doing BTW)

  12. We are such a messy bunch. Janet has a good month and a half to breathe new life into this era. The tour alone is not enough, she must make her presence known. Does anyone know how well the U.S. ticket sales are going? The last time I checked there were some dates that had a nice amount of empty seats.

  13. thank you! I feel when people ignore the added race barriers in the problems faced by people of color, it's to say that race does not play a role in what happens. Madonna has been called controversial & a pioneer damn near all in the same sentence with her "controversies" damn near being uplifted as groundbreaking instead of inappropriate.

Lets keep it real, the FCC used Janet as a pawn because she was an easy target. She's black, she's a Jackson, & people can get with being outraged by her shenanigans. If the FCC was so concerned about Janet's breast in front of millions it wouldn't allow sexually suggestive commercials to air during the super bowl. On any given day, you can catch something much more provocative on prime time television besides Janet's millisecond tit.

If this was about the fairness of her being "wrong" why wasn't Justin handled with the same equal punishment for being involved? Janet was used to push censorship & the FCCs politically correct agenda. Furthermore, the picture was frozen & the video was repeated on the news for weeks following...why did the FCC allow that image to be embedded in the memories of all those who could have missed it? It was all bull shit.

    :coffee::yep:

Couldn't have said it any better than you to be honest :filenails::thumbup:

  14. it went down after Rene and Tina.  The Super Bowl stunt does not happen with Tina in the picture.  As far as Madonna goes she is a white women. The rules are different. Janet could not manipulate the press like that in any lifetime.  As far as her men this is the worse case scenario. Wissam has done more interviews and photo shoots this era than she has with his body showing by the way. The whole religion is just insecure men who try and excuse the behavior by falling back on the Koran the same way Christians do with the bible

I agree with your thoughts on Tina, Rene, and the SB. That stunt, whether it was a malfunction or not, was probably the stupidest decision Janet and her team at the time came up with. Who choreographed the SB BTW? It was just so dumb to be ripping costume parts off at such a public event. Even worse, Janet handled it all terribly: she tried to dodge the problem instead of being up front about it. Coming out with a highly-sexual album right after didn't help either (but it was too late to redo an entire album of course).

In a perfect world, she would have done the SB on her own like MJ without any stunts.

  15. I agree, it would have been great.

With the following lyrics it would have made more sense to the public what she meant with the movement and conversation:

"A brand new movement That started with a Conversation in a cafe It's all about love ....  You wanna show me love Let's keep that conversation going honey"

But I guess NS was more safe and classic Janet.

I feel that NS was a bad way to begin the era. I like the song, it was nice, but its sound is not appealing to the general public. It only found any real success on the AC charts (in America), but I guess it would have been impossible to do well on the Hot 100 seeing as how they tend to not play new songs by older artists.

  16. As you guys have been stating, there have been so many things she could have done to lift this era up to a new level. Her lack of promo has been a huge mistake and I don't understand why her team hasn't forced her to correct this. When she announced the European dates, I was nervous for her (I saw something like this coming). I mean, she booked dates in places like Prague! Why?! Why would she do that? To not have toured arenas in Europe since the late 90's and then have announced all these dates at big arenas with no promo was such a bad move on her part.

Another thing, she really hasn't been communicating with fans. She usually just quotes her song lyrics and calls it a day. Why not actually speak to us through Q&As or discuss the album in-depth with Jimmy and Terry. I keep seeing all these articles of JJ&TL regurgitating the same story of how Control came to be which is so odd to me seeing as how we already know that story and they haven't really revealed anything we didn't know about Control's development. She didn't do anything for Control 30, so why would JJ&TL focus on that in interviews? Tell us more about all these songs on Unbreakable: the samples, the lyric concept, the theme, this "Conversation in a Cafe" which was dropped as a hashtag pretty early on in this era, I think.

I've read that she's gotten a new team since the #1's era. Maybe she should revamp her team again after this. Even after her missteps, I'll still be here for Janet's announcements, albeit with skeptical feelings. I am looking forward to this new video, hopefully the dancing, costumes and set design are all on-point
