  1. To me her vocal highlights on the album were: Night Unbreakable (chorus & adlibs) Dream Maker Well Traveled Lesson Learned No Sleep (Bridge Mostly)
  2. It absolutely is not. It's a breathy pant of snoozer proportions. They're calling that whispery sleeper her executing her lower register lol as if her using her inside voice, like she's telling a secret counts as her singing in deeper tone. Theres many more songs where she's actually in lower register through out her career. This song is just weak, but lyrically it's one of her most honest songs she's done.
  3. They're trying to convince that After You Fall is the best vocal performance on Unbreakable.
  4. We're talking about After You Fall. AFY is good vocally. But if I had to really do my list of Janet's vocal highlights from that album it would be: Love Scene Ooo Baby Feels So Right China Love Come on Get Up & to honor Janet's lower register Truth & Better Days
  5. Then there's the answer. It's definitely in the interview from beginning to end he goes through his career.
  6. Bull shit the song is a vocal snooze in comparison to the majority of the album. If you want to claim she "technically" nailed panting on the track so be it. It's weak nonetheless. At this point you might have to research it - Pandora only keeps the shows for 7 days UNLESS you have a paid membership I believe then you can go back but if you're free then it's no longer able to just be listened to.
  7. Your opinion on AYF is yours to have. The song is weak vocally. Call it rich or whatever it's breathy and weak. I quoted the source. This was ALL stated on Jimmy Jam's interview on Questlove's podcast with Pandora. They discussed his entire career and specifically the process with Janet.
  8. My post specifically said I'm not saying Janet didn't or doesn't write. My point is she gets writing credit whether she did pen it or not.
  9. He is talking current concepts with Janet & speaking of soon to come surprises. He also purposely muted the video as he was listening. Him being new to the label he still knows Janet has had an album but those current concepts has to be around things to come.
  10. Not saying she hasn't written I'm saying she has writing credits that she didn't pen shit on. Including her debut album. Terry is really the one of the team who is the writer with the most ease. When she got to Jimmy & Terry she wasn't really a writer much at all. That time she took with them to explore Minneapolis & to get to know them - as she talked they wrote & she didn't even realize it. He Doesn't Know I'm Alive was the first song recorded for the album which is why it sounds so different but it was already written & they wanted to see what she could do vocally & sonically. It was written by the woman she did "Making Love in the Rain" with. Rhythm Nation - Living In A World They Didn't Make has Janet's writing credit but it was Terry who penned the song. Janet had the concept & was talking to Jimmy about it. Terry walked in & they said Terry we're trying to do a song about children taking on the world they didn't create that adults messed up....Terry immediately said the title. Janet & Jimmy were like YES! Terry went away for a second came back with the song. Janet is involved in the process but her sitting down pen to paper & coming in with fully formatted songs is not always or even usually how it seems to go. That's no disrespect but it's been being revealed. Another point about that would be why when she leaves her foundation does her music sound different if she's the master behind the pen. A person who writes isn't withheld by a group. She also has never written for other artists & that's where the money is. Most writers will do that.
  11. They are over artist scouting, development, marketing, & liaison between label & artists processes. They kinda make sure artists and label both get what is needed while projects are being constructed. They input on creative as far as aligning the right producers with the artists, coming up with marketing/marketable ideas, they oversee the recording process with the artists, they help cultivate/nurture sounds for artist listening to demos - producer beats & like I said some creatives. They can sign artists, they overall are the developers of talent. As president they will have the highest position doing this. Overseeing these functions plus part of the best interests & direction for the label as a whole. Creating kinda like the perfect roster for RNR & working directly with Janet on her development & processes too.
  12. We do know those songs. Pharrell did Ruff if I'm not mistaken. Rich is excellent with Janet I love What Can I Say. Janet did not actually WRITE on Control she inspired lyrics. Janet didn't write Pleasure Principle. There's many songs in Janet's career that she did not really WRITE that she got writer credit on Jimmy was very clear about that on his interview with Questlove on Pandora. Take Care is an excellent song, Promise of You is like a conscious The Body That Loves You & I love that song. Lessons Learned is an excellent song to me. Nonetheless, I've always thought Damita Jo was a good album so that's where we'll disagree. Despite the extra cooks in the kitchen.
  13. The only way to be shady is when someone is shining. So being irrelevant about an actual point...I guess. Irrelevant.
  14. oh now you're excited, but considered it shade when they were posting a picture I already posted...right.
  15. She has had good music that never made the light of day with other producers. Pharrell & Rich Harrison for example. I also think Thinking About My Ex was a great track with Babyface. So we'll agree to disagree. I think Jimmy & Terry should be the foundation but they can use some input & they did on UB. Whether it be the perfect sample or a remake she has the potential to do another ballad. AYF was vocally weak. Lyrically strong, the music not so bad just vocally a snooze. Maybe it was too slow but I think it wasn't so much as the music as it was the drawn out & pitchy vocals.
  16. No the new music literally says new Janet check his IG stories. I'm looking to get the picture uploaded.
  17. I can't post the picture of the new music post from my phone. I'm trying to figure it out one sec.
  18. Janet's maturity is ok she doesn't sound bad but to me her voice was at its best during DOAD - Velvet Rope. I agree her ballads were better in her early days & I think that has something to do with how they've been crafting her ballads & her vocal changes. I think she still has a strong & great ballad in her but it might take a push & new set of assistance like they reached out to others for UB.
  19. I've seen different in regard to Beyoncé. The biggest thing IVE seen personally is that she can blow and perform. That's kinda the general consensus about her. As far as Janet when does everyone feel Janet was at her vocal peak?
  20. Also the Jacksons naturally have a flat tone, but they can get beyond it. Michael too & I have always thought Michael can really sing.
  21. Who do you feel is a great vocalist? I want to know what people's opinions of great vocals are. To me Cee-Lo Green said it best, he appreciates a person who can sing - because everybody who can SANG can't SING. There's value and power in both. He said he is an example of a person who can't sing but can sang. I think Beyoncé is known for both from Halo to Dangerously in Love & Love on Top - many mention her voice. I'm not a big fan of her personally but I can't deny she has excellent vocals. Without me being into her music. I think, especially after listening, there have been many times where Janet's voice wasn't utilized to its fullest potential. When I hear her higher vocal range & backgrounds raw - IGL, Runaway, Escapade all the others....she has more range that sounds GREAT to me. When they have her being "attitudey" SOMETIMES it comes of choppy & doesn't give her voice justice. Not to mention as she's aged like all ppl her voice has changed. You can literally hear the change from Velvet Rope to AFY all the way to Discipline. Rich Harrison said he feels like Janet can sing & you have to bring it out of her because she displays it on stage or in concert when she gets louder. So - he helped create "What Can I Say" with her.
