I'm glad y'all said it, I thought I was trippin. I saw Normani perform on The Tonight Show and she was giving me sensual grown woman performing waves...she murdered that performance so my expectations were high. When she performed the other night at the VMAs, it felt very Abbie Lee Dance Company chile, I was not impressed at all...it was cute but with all the momentum she had with her video release...it was the perfect opportunity to make moment with full on spectacle. That little solo she did was not gag worthy especially with all the epic tricks Missys dancers were doin.

With that said Lizzo showed de fuq owt and Missy's performance was everything.

    That host was trash.

Taylor Swift and her accessory/mouthpiece/stepandfetch aka Todrick Hall and them messy ass purple locs were doin the most. We didn't need every drag queen to come on stage everytime u win bitch. Ugh! All the time she took gathering them tucked hoes could have gone to Missy.

Normani is good, but I agree we were getting all flash and little stage presence. It's ok to break away from the choreography for a moment to connect with the crowd and give them some substance. That's all that was missing.

Can you give me some examples?

Clubs that fit over 500 people are rare, most have closed down. The Tunnel, Limelight, ect. The average bar is about 80-200 people. There's maybe a few big venues left

I used to go out when I was younger, clubs can be a lot of fun and I do miss dancing like crazy. But these days I just stick to bars and lowkey stuff. -_-

I'm sure clubs are doing fine in NY but I wouldn't be the one to ask. -_-

Most of the mega clubs have closed

Well, she's not obligated to. Right? Actually, I listened to 20 Y.O. a couple of times this week, and it's a fun album. It's a good album to dance to and overall, I think it's better than Discipline (but not better than Damita Jo).

Lies.... Every artist on the come up from Kelly Rowland to Nicole Sershinger or whatever her name is would trade places with Janet for those songs on Discipline.

  5. Ya'll trashing Janet and other credible artists when the #1 song in 2007 was Girl Shake That Laffy Taffy 🙄 Let's not act like art and good writing was a priority in the wake of the digital generation. A lot of songs that have been hits since then have been out right corny, and are not deep in content at all. Pretty basic in comparison to anything on Damita Jo, 20YO, and Discipline actually. By 2010 Beyonce and Usher were dumming down their music to fit in with the young kids. "Surf board" and "Everybody wanna be like me" is what this generation likes so it doesn't matter how much Shakespeare Janet or anyone else adds to their music. Ratchet is in, poetry is out. The only "artists" getting credit are white singers mimicking black sounds.

Yes what Janet put out in 2004-2008 was lackluster (For Janet standards). But in terms of what was put out in the overall music industry they slay. I remember Kelis put out a great album, of course it didn't chart but it was still a good album compared to hits on the radio.

I wanted the perspective of those here from many different areas to either confirm yes this is a trend and continues or nope dont see it always popping and to bring the topic up because a lot of times I bring subject matter up that I think is interesting especially when one considers the ramifications of the issue, but often I feel as if people dont see where I'm going with things, my topics tend to be a great deal more intellectual than I will ever receive credit for. I made a thread to discuss what some are saying is a clear trend, the death of the night club yet people here are acting brand new about it so  :coffee:

why are you arguing with people that don't go out. 😳they're part of the problem lol

the only fan base i get requests from in the gay clubs anymore are lambs actually. janet fans need to step their pussy up.

It's clear that you and I have a difference of opinion, but now Im being called out for criticizing her artistic choices....are you new? That's all anybody on here does

I will always reject mediocrity, even if I love and adore you...that's just how my DNA is set up, that's the frequency that I am on, but your current frequency of understanding is equivalent to that of an adolescent restricted to a diet of an infant and your thought process is so dysfunctional and deformative that you have not yet matured by eating applesauce and crushed pears. The fact that you thought it was cute to label me an 'Uncle Tom' only proves my theory and for that I no longer wish to engage with you.

And as a black gay male that is his own avatar...that's 'Aunt Tom' to you.

    Bye!

Damito Jo isn't a bad album, you just hold Janet to a higher standard because of who she is. Beyonce Dangerously In Love, Madonna American Life, Ashanti Chapter 2, Mya Moodring, Britney In The Zone, Alicia Keys or whoever else releases music in the 6 months before wasn't exactly ground breaking. Let's not act like the early 2000's was some sort of Golden Era in music 🙄 Things didn't even really pop off until Usher, Mariah, Fergie, Nelly Furtado, Missy's Cookbook, and B'Day

  10. 1. MONEY - The average bar owner is over the age of 40. Young Millennial and Generation Z grew up during the the Great Recession of the late 2000s. They don't have the coin to pay $13 a square foot for a building, plus liquor license, machinery license, music license, food license, renovations, fire codes, safety, employ staff, DJ, and security. Stock their bar. You're looking at $30,000 JUST TO LEASE a property the size of a three bedroom apartment. Especially in the LGBT community where the older gays sold out or didn't pass down their establishments to the younger movement.

    2. MUSIC INDUSTRY - Downloading, Streaming, and Youtube. People have access to technology now to hear whatever they want, whenever they want, as many times as they want. They don't have to restrict themselves to a DJ's playlist at a bar. That's why concerts, festivals, and live performances are doing better. When I'm promoting and say $5 Cover, the first thing people ask (Especially gay clubs) is "Are you having a show?", "Strippers?", "Artist?", "Drag?". They want to know where their money is going. They want an "experience", something to Snapchat and Instagram about. Drinks and music ain't a reason cause they can do that at home. All these stripper and drag reality shows aren't helping either cause RuPaul has commercialized it, so now your local talent is suffering. You don't have to go to clubs anymore to watch drag.

    3. DIVERSITY - Every place is the same and caters to white people. There's a lot of racism in nightlife and people of color have few places to go without the "hip hop crowd stigma". Fear of their venue becoming "too urban". That means more bars closing at midnight and more college house parties playing Cardi B.

    4. HEALTH MOVEMENT - Everyone is a vegan, fitness nut, and alcohol conscious 🙄. Juice bars, brunch, and day parties are the new thing. I don't even bother hosting events anymore if the kitchen closes before 1am. Food trucks have been my saviors. Or I bring a caterer that wants to sell plates. Once someone has to leave your party to grab a slice of pizza they aren't coming back.

    5. AGE LIMIT/LEGALIZING MARIJUANA - Cities started banning 18 plus venues. You need young people to keep your dance club going. Point, blank, period. In Massachusetts they legalized weed. I went to the hookah bar a month later.... it was dead. I'm not sure why, I just know smoking lounges are suffering because of it.

    6. THEME - Where's the glow lights? Where's the nice leather seats? Where's your stage? Why is the Lifetime channel playing on the TVs? Why isn't it dark and sexy in here? Why does your bar look like a trailer park?

    7. MOBILITY - This generation doesn't drive. Public transit ends at midnight. Uber is great.. for rushing to work.
