Dammit, Janet's demands are modest!(article)

The 45-year-old sister of the late pop icon Michael Jackson begins her tour with a two-day performance at Montecasino's Teatro, on Friday and Saturday.

Her last show is at Cape Town's Grandwest arena on Tuesday.

Though the All For You singer's personal assistant, Terri Harris, one of 50 crew members accompanying her, "coordinates" her meals, the singer's list of requests and demands for the tour stipulates less for her "star dressing room" than other stars demand.

On the list are Huggies unscented hand wipes, non-floral air freshener, unscented candles between 8cm and 10cm in diameter, 28 towels, an iPod docking station (if not available, a CD player with a selection of R&B and jazz CDs) and cut white tulips.

And if there are no tulips, she will settle for white gardenias or white roses.

The promoters have been told to clear with her management changes made if the specified flowers are not available.

Food, including Chinese meals and pizzas, is listed under "after show" demands.

Before the show, her room is to be stocked with Orbit chewing gum, organic creamy peanut butter, sliced fresh strawberries, a variety of herbal teas, sixlitres of Fiji bottled water and Glaceau Smartwater, a brand of vitamin water.

Though the latter bottled water is not available in South Africa, concert organiser Tony Feldman said yesterday: "We'll make a plan."

Jackson arrives in the country tomorrow but will not give interviews or hold a press conference at the airport.

A tour insider said yesterday: "She's under a lot of pressure, with the trial [for manslaughter of Michael Jackson's personal doctor, Conrad Murray] and will be flying in from Australia, so they're trying to get her as much rest as possible."

Janet Jackson upset many Australian fans when she cancelled a show in Sydney at the last minute on Sunday because she needed "vocal rest".

Don't they spend a few hours at the venue before the show?

I know some singers nap before the show..

Depends. I wouldn't think she did. Probably an hour for her at best unless she wants to go through another run through of the setlist.
