No Janet ain't no damn Trump supporter just cause she liked and commented on her brother's post. Did y'all even read what he wrote? The last sentence says it all "Trust me, I know how convincing the main stream media can be. They have lied about my family my entire life." Janet had every reason to like and commented if she wanted.

I took a first time listen to Dream Street and let me tell you:
This is arguably Janet's most underrated album. I was bopping to so many songs on the album. It seems that the executives decided to try to up the tempo from the first album and I felt to paid off. It has less ballads and they aren't as strong (Two to the Power of Love is quite bad). But the dance number are definite bangers. Highlights for me are Can't Stand Another Chance, Pretty Boy and All my Love to You.
Dream Street is definitely not worthy of being a punchline. It's better than a lot of the urban contemporary music of that time, and it definitely showed strong potential. It would put it 7th, above Damita Jo, 20YO, Discipline, the debut. There was at least somewhat of a concept that the executives committed to.
Sorry but no album Janet had no part in producing or executive producing is gonna be below the 2 albums her daddy had her do and sing music she didn't wanna sing.

Janet’s first album is better than 20 yo
I'm not finna play witchu

Facts! The Velvet Rope shouldn't be no.1 period

Rhythm Nation should be no.1 or no.2 and that's the lowest it should be. NO album produced by Joe Jackson should be above 20 Y.O.

I'm not saying the it wouldn't do well per se, rather it wouldn't have done THAT well. The first week sales and charting would have been a little better, but I would not be coming for Usher, Alisha, etc. I see it doing 2 millions tops.
I'm more than aware the the singles did better abroad, but can you (not you specifically) explain why that didn't translate into better album sales, despite being promoted internationally.
well for 1 she didn't tour and also Viacom and clearchannel which own several media outlets didn't play Janet's music or her videos and that means overseas as well. Damita Jo was predicted to outsell "All For You" which sold 8 million copies ww

4 hours ago, Illi said:No. The initial reception would have been a little better but it wouldn't be seen as a critical smash. Same thing about the success. There would still be an inevitable decline, but not as bad as it became.
And even then those albums did modestly.
The initial reception would've been a little better? Just A Little While was climbing the charts on airplay alone and it peaked atop the Hot Dance Club Songs chart. Internationally, it was more successful, reaching the top ten in Belgium, Canada, and Spain and the top twenty in Australia and The United Kingdom. It peaked at number one in Japan for five weeks, and was the year's second-biggest hit on Japan's international airplay chart. That song is one of the tracks on the album that most of us skip The lady performed in front of more than 100 million viewers and everybody who has superbowl performances see a spike in their music sales. IDK where y'all be getting that from that the album wouldn't of done well. Why just because YOU didn't like some of the tracks?

Now had the superbowl thing didnt happen, I think DJ would've ranked as one of her best and successful records and be a favorite among the fans.
It definitely would've and I hate when fans say otherwise just because it didn't do well. It didn't do well ONLY BECAUSE OF THE SUPERBOWL

I STILL think it’s the best of the trilogy of nothing to say!!!! Damita Jo-Discipline
oh nah you messed up with the Damita Jo lol. 20 Y.O. is definitely not better than DJ

Now this is the real deal.. I totally agree with their number one VR and dream street/20 as bottom feeders.. I would've exchanged DJ with Unbreakable..
I think I would too. I like DJ better. I think they're only ranking Unbreakable higher due to it being more deep than DJ

Slant Magazine just released their official ranking of her discography in anticipation of “Black Diamond” since it’s unfortunately being put on hold for an unknown period of time because of the pandemic.
https://www.slantmagazine.com/music/every-janet-jackson-album-ranked/Damn they really did that to 20 Y.O.

I absolutely love Unbreakable and put it above much of her later albums and it still gets a ton of replay from me. It's just not as strong as TVR, and there's nothing wrong with that, because TVR is one of the best albums I've ever heard. Unbreakable was a return to form; TVR was an elevation.
Yeah that's a good album and it may surprise some of y'all but I like the "All For You" album better. Lyrically and dealing with substance it can't compare to the "Unbreakable" album but as far as tracks All For You is the better album

......the album that also features “Warmth” and “Moist”...... ”My Baby”=Rainy Afternoon vocals.... And yes, it’s ok to admit Janet was timid because she is a perfectionist and is always hard on herself when it came to her voice. Doesn’t mean she doesn’t make the effort, just not as much as she can.
lol neither of those songs I care for so i'm with you there. "My Baby" wasn't bad tho. I also agree with you on your last sentence. I feel Janet doesn't make as much of an effort vocally as she can. Last time I felt we got crisp clear vocals were on "No Sleeep" when she did the chorus and on "Take Me Away" when she also did the chorus take me awaaaaay frooooooooooom heeeeeeeeeeeeeeere.

I said she was timid about it, not that she never did. Didn’t Jimmy say, Janet was often never satisfied by her vocals and would be like, “that was alright...” We know she can sing full on like Rhythm Nation, Together Again and All For You but let’s be real, Damita Jo-Discipline were vocally embarrassing at times. That infamous whisper voice ran rampant because she wasn’t inspired with no passion behind it. Songs like “Unbreakable” and “Broken Hearts Heal” do show her higher range while “After You Fall” and “Gon B Alright” were vocally eclectic! The raw emotion behind those vocals were stunning! So many deep tones and vocal shifting. I know you prefer her singing high but like I said, I prefer her versatility over high notes like Whitney and Mariah all the time. Not many artist can do that at all.
I already know she's versatile and that's one of the many reasons everybody loves her but don't go around saying she has more power in her voice now when she doesn't. You said she was timid and that just simply not true and yes Jimmy did say she was never satisfied. Damita Jo wasn't embarrassing. It was actually good and so were he vocals. "I Want You" which got her nominated for a grammy for best vocal , "Island Life", "Like You Don't Love Me", and even on "SloLove" she hit high notes so disappointment where? Now Discipline i'll agree with.

Mmmm I wouldn’t say she can’t hit the high notes anymore. Unbreakable had some of Janet’s best vocals for sure. Not to mention Made For Now! The thing is Janet has always been too timid to sing out full on songs because of her insecurity about her vocal range. Janet’s voice has always lacked raw power but made up for it in versatility. She can sing Rock, R&B, Jazz, Country, Folk, POP, etc. unlike her contemporaries. It’s always been about how she uses her voice and her harmonies?!?!! Even Brandy stans those harmonies!!!
hmm nah Janet was never too timid to sing full out on songs cause she's done it plenty of times. She was just always insecure about her voice not being big but she's definitely sung full out and yes we all know about how she uses her voice and harmonies. I love the Unbreakable album and as far as content it's definitely one of her better albums. I feel on that album she barely sang in her higher tone which is when she always sounds better

Wow what a thread
And I say no because there was Usher. He was going platinum week after week. Then there was Alicia and Kanye and Beyonce was still on her DIL run. And that's just rnb. DJ is a great album, but it didn't stand out enough or have the same level of "JANET" to it as the previous 5 albums to be the best selling album of the year, especially 2004.
it definitely would've been up there with Usher's. Alicia, Kanye, and Beyonce wasn't finna outsell no Janet before the backlash. Sorry they just weren't.

I think her voice has become more full n less light is what they might mean. Like there’s maturity and growth in it.
power is definitely the wrong choice of words and of course it's less light. She can't hit the notes like she used to. Unless you're Patti or Aretha your voice is automatically going to get deeper or raspier as a woman when you get older

She was sannngging on Unbreakable and Well Travelled. I love her voice moreso now. Its much more rich and powerful. THE HARMONIES
More powerful? No it's not. Every human loses power in their voice the older they get

ok so let's be honest. Were Janet's voals on Unbreakable part of why y'all didn't care for much of the music?
-
I saw this a few weeks ago and this is kind of the first time i've seen Janet very annoyed during an interview. Specifically the part when all the noise was goin on and she said she'd like it a little more quiet

She is not just being blacklisted in the US, unfortunately.
Also, I think all artists are awaiting vaccines, not just Janet. It just so happens that Janet was supposed to go tour, so I suppose -once it's safe- Janet will announce those dates of the American leg.
Ok tell us where else other than US is Janet blacklisted.

MC & Whitney aren't blacklisted.
He should've stayed quiet, yes.
I want Janet to speak out on the album and tour, but I understand their situation. I hope that by Spring or Summer 2021 there will be several working vaccines, so Janet can announce the new tour dates (starting Fall 2021-early 2022?). But that's all depending on how fast we have vaccines.
Janet was blacklisted over a decade ago. She's currently not blacklisted so you're gonna have to find another excuse. Other countries didn't blacklist her lol. Also just because there will be vaccines out doesn't mean Janet will start a tour.

She’s going to start getting dragged even more being in her 40s and releasing immature music.
She been doing that for years now already. Her music just doesn't stand the test of time. It's all music made for kids in high sschool

I didn't even know I made this thread lol but I'm binge watching The Parkers as we speak. I like that show way better than Moesha because of how funny it is.

I'm not saying that he doesn't know (although he has been wrong about Janet related stuff before), but he shouldn't be the person telling us these things. It's unprofessional. I want her team to act more professional and people like Aktive simply need to zip it.
You think he should've just stayed quiet? Would you accept Janet continuing to tell us nothing? I'm fine with either one. I honestly think anyone who took time out to think logically, we really don't need Janet to tell us anything. There's a pandemic going on so no point in doing anything musically as far as new releases. I do however think she should do stuff to keep her name out there. I felt bad cause I was talking to someone online from Columbia and he asked who my favorite singer is and when I told him Janet he said "The sister of Michael?" and I said yes and had to explain to him that Janet is also huge but not as huge as Michael. Then he played "Made For Now" and said that's the only song he knows by her because of Daddy Yankee and the song was played heavily in the country. He's 25 and he already knew Mariah and Whitney's music
