  1. J.Lo fo sho. And her J.Lo era singles on the J to the L.O.: The Remixes album Vocally, I think her strongest single EVER is "Hold It, Don't Drop It" lifted off of Brave.
  2. Not gonna lie, I put this on my mp3 player This is obviously not an attempt at Rap supestardom...but Serena's got a nice little flow, and aside from that wack "I cook the track up like a frozen pizza" line, I actually like it. Mad punch lines! Haha. "WHAT'CHU TELL A HATER WHEN THEY HATE? I WIN!"
  3. IMO: Jessica Sanchez >>> Joshua Ledet Better singer, better technique, better delivery, more marketable, more likable. If she doesn't win? F THE WORLD.
  4. Track #3: "Rock The Boat" RTB is a bonafied classic, and it's the epitome of CLASS. Sexy done classy. This young 21 year old woman belied her age, and was successfully able to make an extremely suggestive and potentially explicit song a feel-good experience. The video fit the song to a T, you get a laid back, chill, soothing, summery vibe when listening. Watching the video is hard though, because you can't get out of your mind that it was filmed literally days before she was tragically taken from this life. And I, personally, get an angelic-feeling from Aaliyah in certain parts of the video, specifically the scenes in the ocean. This song seems to be well loved within the R&B community, from fans and non-fans alike.
  5. :lmao: "Full Moon" and "Afrodisiac" cannot hold a candle to "Aaliyah"...and I think "Afrodisiac" is a great album. But I have always said that I think Tim was living Aaliyah's life variously through Brandy with his tracks on that record. Some of those songs were tailor-made for Aaliyah, ESPECIALLY the PHENOMENAL "I Tried". It is my favorite Brandy song, but every time I hear it, I get the feeling that it was intended for Aaliyah. The very minimal filler on the Aaliyah album is much less copious than the filler on both of the aforementioned Brandy albums, IMO of course. Neither of them flow as well, and neither appeal to all of the senses. Full Moon was generic R&B. Afrodisiac was MUCH better. But neither was a "complete experience" like Aaliyah. Brandy, nor any of her contemporaries, have an album of that caliber in their catalogues.
  6. Track #2: "Loose Rap" Upon first listen of LR, I wasn't exactly a huge fan of it, never really gave it a chance. I thought it was just okay, 'pleasant filler' if you will. So it was always a song that I would skip when listening to the album...for years. Last year, I felt compelled to listen to the album straight through for the first time in quite sometime. Maybe it's due to a changed taste in music, or maturity -- but this time around, I really fell in love with it. LR is smooth and breezy, and it oozes confidence, the lyrics and delivery are in-your-face in a direct, yet ladylike way. "Too many times I hear you try to knock on my crew, boy I got somethin' for all the fools, it ain't just Rhythm & Blues" Because of all the years of neglect, this song was something like a new release to me, so it was burnt on several mixes and actively played on my mp3 player for the better part of last year and early 2012. I will say though, LR is one of the few songs that sound a bit dated to me. Regardless, I'm glad I gave it a second shot, albeit after several years. It just makes an already complete album, even more superior.
  7. :clapping: -- +1 -- you went INNNNN on this lol! I dig your track by track analysis, I agree with a lot. And I'm feeling your video idea for "I Care 4 U"
  8. Ahhhh man...sorry bout that that ranks high up on my "worst s*** that can happen while on the computer" list.
  9. The first time I heard "We Need A Resolution" in its entirety was when Aaliyah visited MTV's TRL to debut the video. I remember being completely hypnotized by what I was hearing, and seeing. The dark, tantalizing, out-of-this-world sounding instrumentation was matched with equally tantalizing vocals. The song's subject matter is obviously not terribly unique, but the manner in which it is sung puts it in a whole 'nother league when compared to other singles released around the same time frame. Vocally, the song is so complete: strength and softness, vulnerability and confidence, top notch harmonization and absolutely unmatched adlibbing -- all is shown, all delivered with a haunting, otherworldly yet angelic tone. Not even a remedial and corny rap by Mr. Mosely could ruin this high-end diamond of a track. The video... there are very few videos in the HISTORY of music videos that are more sultry and seductive. Scene after scene, Aaliyah absolutely melts the camera, some of the most stunningly beautiful images I've ever seen. The gothic princess face shots, the snake pit scenes, the scenes with her wearing her shades, and the scenes where she's traveling in the metallic space orb -- on a scale of 1-10, she was easily a 15. Words cannot express how much in love I was with her entire aura when I first witnessed this video. WNAR may be THE song that best shows how current the sound of the album still is. It could be released today and still sound fresh, it's not dated by any means.
  10. It's just amazing how the bulk of this 11 year old album still sounds so current to me. I just revisited it again after not hearing it for quite some time, and I feel compelled to talk about it in depth. One of the last times it was brought up on the board, sometime last year, I found out that it was one of Dayz' favorite albums and I said we needed to talk about it sometime. IMO, it's one of the most complete female R&B albums since the turn of the century, and it just gets better with age. Let's start with track 1: "We Need A Resolution" I'm going to wait for others to chime in first, because I don't want to feel like I'm talking to myself. But let me start off by saying that I believe WNAR is my favorite Aaliyah track of all time.
  11. And possibly one of the top 5 badass Janet lyrics of all-time: "Sweatin me but I'm not your type, you think you irk me and you're so right, I'd rather keep the trash and throw you out, stupid bitch in my beach house, nah i ain't gone go and act a fool, and be lead story on the n**** news, not me sucka, I'll never be your lover, I'd rather make you suffer, you stupid mothafucka!" -- Janet Jackson (Son Of A Gun)
  12. "Oooh wee baby my lips as sweet as honey when I put it in ya face gonna make you spend your money uh huh...picture me do a dance, makin' you so horny if you want a little taste gotta show me how much you want it...I'm bout to pop it bounce bounce clap clap you like that?" "I did a tease to bring you to your knees baby, broke it down and made you feel sleazy, then you said 'well fine muthafucka I like it!', I did a tease to bring you to your knees baby, now you know that pimpin' ain't easy , then you said 'well fine muthafucka I like it!' LOSE CONTROLLLLL" -- Janet Jackson (Strawberry Bounce)
  13. "GIVE IT TO YA SEXHIBITION, NEVER MISSIN' WHAT YA WISHIN', I'LL DRIVE THAT ASS CRAZY!" -- Janet Jackson (SEXHIBITION) :w00t: :w00t:
  14. "Load up on guns and bring your friends, it's fun to lose and to pretend" "With the lights out, it's less dangerous, here we are now, entertain us, I feel stupid and contagious, here we are now, entertain us..." -- Kurt Cobain, Nirvana (Smells Like Teen Spirit)
  15. "We leave this world alone, so who gives a fuck about the things you own?" -- Ms. Dynamite (It Takes More)
  16. Thanks Andy! I gotta say...it's my favorite part too, and it's funny because it's the part that I put the least effort into
  17. Thanks TE! I was hypnotized by the "You Know I'm No Good" instrumental from the very first time I heard it it has a new old school type of vibe...I would love to make a full album of songs that had that type of vibe. I laugh at the second half of the rap verse every time...ESPECIALLY the 'Polio' part
  18. UPDATED, FULL LENGTH VERSION OF MY MIXTAPE TRACK "PUBLIC ENEMY #1 -- Ya'll check it out and let me know what you think! If you heard the snippet already, everything from 1:45 on is NEW MATERIAL just recorded under an hour ago! I don't give myself props too much because I'm such a perfectionist and I usually can't get things the way I would like to 95% of the time...but I dig the hell outta this track because it marries R&B/Soul with Hip Hop...and those two genres of music make sexy children!
  19. I am convinced that it was a ratings ploy, Selz. There is absolutely NO way she was THE least voted for contestant.
  20. And this, ladies and gents, is why Nelly Furtado is THAT B****!!! :excited: she's bringing HEAT! She's not following the formula of the status quo and releasing some played dancy garbage! I'm excited for this just like I was excited for loose to come out over half a decade ago...only Nelly, only Nelly!
  21. Nel-Tado, back to save pop music from these annoying, untalented broads who release new "music" every other week! Dere iz a gawd
