Not album but creative dilvery of the project. The looks, performance that kind of thing. I think some stuff could have been better delivered to salvage some things

Their list is definitely solid & I can understand every choice. I would add SNL 94, and I might have switched s couple of those performances around. She killed BBA, and I wasn't bothered by the outfits at all. If anything I didn't care for the VMA - DRM look at all. The Goth was always weird to me. I saw someone mention American Idol, that shit was captivating because she looked good but the performance - besides "Nothing" vocally - Nasty was just a strut fest. There was no real performance. What About - Vh1 was an impactful performance but these were all consistent. I like the list.

I don't think that's why, I think she realizes it would have compromise her brand to be lackluster. Honestly, I think it's a mix of things. I think she might have been in a position where the label was strict about letting her say & do certain things to not make it any worse & she didn't have much support. Also, I feel Janet didn't have many GREAT creatives around her anymore. Seriously, Gil is a great person but he has TRASH creativity. She's been stifled with him. Discipline was a decent album to me. Not her worse.

Exactly if she can do that, and make songs with Mike like Scream, TGF, YAR, New Agenda, Can't Be Stopped - I know she had so much to say. Part of me wishes I could have been a fly on the wall during those times & meetings. I hurt for the direction her career went.

Yea the tours didn't happen because sponsors pulled out of supporting her. She lost her whole support system. She literally was blackballed, and didn't decide to clap back. I just know Janet has clap back in her. She literally always has, she has done it in classy ways & she has done it in aggressive ways. Very few will remember this & MAYBE JanetMedia has it but during the SNL 94 promo she has a commercial promoting her on the show with Heather Locklear & they say something along the lines of "We're gonna have a great show," & Janet responds - "As long as LaToya doesn't show up." Janetmedia used to have this video. Also don't forget the infamous video of her & Michael going off in the car at the courthouse. Janet is not a prime & proper individual, "A little lady a whole lotta class but do me wrong I'll get in that ass" she's a class act for sure but the fight is in her.

Janet DEFINITELY had clap back. Son of a Gun, You Ain't Right, Truth, Madonna, in the 90s her public fight with LaToya on how she treated MJ, Scream, it wasn't until that era that she humbled that clap back. Shit in the interview during 20YO when they talk about weight loss...& claim she had surgery she says those rumors makes her want to kick someone's ass. During the VR era when she said on the tour MTV interview that the ppl who wrote the article about her breast have no life & nothing better to do. She's always had the clap back. Thats part of what was disappointing to me - TGF is her recent clap back attempt. She decided to be silent instead of actually letting her music be her diary. I think DJ was her diary but it focused on her new found love instead of the industry politics.

Oh there's no doubting that Janet didn't intend that blacklisting to deminish her career the way it did, but for me IWY is a good single, My Baby had potential by Summer she could have went with Island Life. All Nite was weird to me just in general even though the choreo is the shit. She definitely didn't have the financial and label support as much as she would or usually did have. I think about how iconic it would have been to make a FUCK YOU or rebel album. If she kinda would have went Rogue - or even did an album titled Rogue & let it all loose from industry attacking to blacklisting to making it all work on her terms. The sad part is she had very few industry backers & endorsers. Tech was still advancing at that point so it was a little hard to go so hard. JALW was very pop, but if I remember correctly it leaked so they went with it just to get ahead of the leak. Overall DJ was and is good but it went down hill after. Even though I felt Discipline showed she could do what everyone else was doing & make it work but it just wasn't her.

Kanye was huge at that time. He was one of the most anticipated artist. Janet had more than enough to talk about she decided for multiple albums not to go there for whatever reason. Maybe she felt she could only make it worse.

Ooooh I love you brought this into the convo. I actually think that My Baby is one of the better songs on DJ & in retrospect I think DJ is very good album. Might have been better received if it wasn't shadowed with drama. BUT! I'm going to say this & a lot of fans might not like or agree, but a lot that happened around/after DJ was partially on Janet too. Yes, there were definitely too many cooks in the kitchen. Also, there were terrible single choices, I feel like All Nite was a great video & choreo but eh single choice in my opinion. I think Janet allowed the wrong influences in & anyone who has been a fan long enough knows that Janet's love interest have heavy influence over her work. At times, it made me question HER creative direction for herself & how much of it has always been her? Letting anyone take you in a direction so far & outside of great creativity without stopping & saying "Nah, this doesn't work" just makes me go hmmmm? Rene & Janet were a dynamic creative team. Janet seemed to lose her creativity & evolution after AFY, partially it has to do with the team & who is in that position also it has to do with not knowing when to switch them out. Janet's image became lackluster, her look was weird at times, the delivery was lazy, some of that rebellious - out loud fighter she had in her in previous albums touching on things that moved her disappeared. I understand that (super bowl) experience was defining, demoralizing, & destabilizing but besides an SNL she barely confronted it. It wasn't until Unbreakable that we got to experience the authenticity of Janet again.

I didn't say it was a good single choice. So what the hell are you talking about, most things you say are exaggerated. And I'm sure if this was the Discipline era & your critique came from any other fan, you'd be calling them "The Great Depressed" or any other corny ass name you make up. Funny how when your opinion isn't praising Janet no one jumps down your throat, remember this when others have an opposing opinion.

lmao exactly she did not perform that song a lot or even push it much, and she actually didn't have much time to really push much of the album at all. But when I saw she performed it on "29947 different popular tv shows" I was like, nah. She didn't.

The entire process that surrounded that album leaves a lot to mystery. If Janet ever had the potential to make it bigger or if it just wasn't good enough. Seriously RWU was a favorite amongst ppl that are not at all real Janet fans. Plus the video showed a little bit of difference with her dancing too and that was dope - but I just wasn't crazy about the song overall. Her clash with LA Reid really deaded that album, but in all honesty I feel the whole look & marketing for Janet post DJ really struggled. She needed a much better creative approach.

Oh Because of Love is a track that angers me that it never returned. Janet sang the background part of it during the band introductions, on Number Ones tour but just for a brief second but NEVER dropped it & did it. That pisses me off lol. I want that to be performed.

You know what's crazy everyone around me, even non Janet fans, loved Rock With U, but I was always indifferent about it. Like I like it but I wasn't crazy about it. I would say a very abandoned "hit" or more so classic is Funny How Time Flies. Janet needs to give this more attention it was popular amongst the ppl. Someone to Call My Lover too. Definitely Go Deep & I always wished she performed 24play.

Maybe you're not being condescending but Jessica runs a little deeper than simply "the help" she's been around Janet since she was young. She first worked with Joe & then with Janet. She's more personal to the family.

I think the last time I've seen Jessica was 20YO era so she could have aged within 10 years even if not too heavily.

LOL, maybe so. But I think her & LaToya go through spells. Sometimes they're on & sometimes they're off...and I think recently it's prob been neutral. Also Toya & Rebbie are born on the same day...I'm sure they're very similar in a lot of ways - but I can also see them being majorly diff.

Wissam can be very attractive some times and other times kinda basic. Janet is beautiful, and all the Jackson children before any work were very attractive children. Also the baby will have all the natural Jackson features....and I have no hang ups about this - but the baby will have a mix between an original Jackson nose & Wissams lol. I hope he is very close to Janet's complexion, which is possible, with her eyes and smile because those things are golden to me.

Beyoncé, despite being in or about her prime, is someone who very much so keeps her image controlled. She's not all over press until she wants to be much like Janet. She doesn't do interviews but she creates her own content. She posted a nude pregnancy shoot, had Janet been younger & of different beliefs it's quite probable she would have done something very similar. I personally didn't find 20YO semi-nudes tacky, some did but I felt at that point she was kinda defying ageism for herself. I think Janet fans, often dislike Beyoncé's celebrity because it's reminiscent of where they feel Janet was. They come off as haters. And that's even with me feeling completely indifferent about Beyoncé.
