Unbreakable is nowhere near vocally better than AFY:lol:

All For You is full of whispers. She even admitted she had a sinus cold while recording several songs, and you can hear it. She actually sings in full voice on Unbreakable. “Gon Be Alright” alone is vocally better than anything on All For You.

    She was the headline

Co-headliner. Janet did one night, Florence and the Machine did the other. The fact that the whole festival was canceled proves it wasn’t because of Janet because this crowd is definitely Florence and the Machine’s demo, so the fact that sales were still low speaks volumes. You wouldn’t cancel two nights and dozens of other artists performing because of one artist. There are tons of festivals this summer. More than usual. So low sales combined with over saturation sounds valid.

Hindsight is 20/20 I guess, and looking back back on those eras, it’s seems like they were major hiccups.  Maybe they were just knee jerk reactions to the Super Bowl aftermath.  Everyone just panicked.

20 YO was a reaction to the underperformance of Damita Jo. Discipline was a reaction to Janet wanting to escape Virgin after 20 YO and start fresh with a new label. These were reactionary albums, not albums she made because she wanted to make them. That’s why they failed. Virgin wanted JD because of the success he was having with Usher and Mariah. But JD did not fit Janet’s style at all. If Damita Jo would’ve been more successful, I guarantee neither 20 YO or Discipline would’ve happened.

  4. So I just got in from the Baltimore show. This is her third best tour behind TVR and RWU respectively. I got there around 7:45 and the DJ was playing PYHO, I was kinda shocked. There was some jackass in the audience screaming to the DJ to play MJ, and I'm just like ugh. DJ played the Kaytranada remix of "If" and everyone seemed to like it. Then the DJ played "Remember The Time" and a bunch of other J5/MJ songs, and I was just over it and ready for the show to start. So Janet came out around 8:30. Delievered. The first half of the show just punched - hit after hit, just full energy nonstop. It might have been where I was sitting, but the music was too loud. I couldn't really hear Janet singing, but that didn't really matter. It's one thing to see Janet dance in videos, but to see it live is a vastly different experience. Her technical prowess through dance is truly unmatched. Her agility, coordination, and flexibility are still very sharp considering that she's 51. With a bit more control and energy, she could give DJ/20YO level of greatness. The way she communicates ideas through movement is surreal.

One thing that really stood out to me is that I notice a lot of legacy acts typically rely on the nostalgia of their music to carry their performances. The performance is that great, but the music is still good and people love the song(s). So they can kinda get away with giving a so-so performance. I feel like a lot of Janet's music is in a transition point to where she's not just performing hits, but she's performing bona fide classics. So Janet keeps the songs fresh by delivering new choreography, while keeping elements of the original routines in the performance. For example, the way she ends TTWLG. She keeps the little side step and the snaps with the "collapse" at the end, yet everything else is new choreography. I always have reservations about Janet doing AN(DS), but she murked that shit. Agility was just immaculate. Same with "Nasty", dear GAWD. MURKED that shit. Same with the AFY breakdown. "What About" is the reason why Janet is incontestably the greatest female entertainer ever. The storytelling of that performance is very hard to watch. And yes, I did get teary eyed. I think Janet needs a bit of improvement in areas where she's altered choreography, like "If", for example. I think she should focus more on showmanship - having dancers on stage telling us a story through movement. The second verse choreo is kinda "eh", if you get what I'm talking about. Same kinda with the new songs she did for the first time. She's gotta present them better, esp since it's the first time these songs are being performed. Like "Island Life". It was great that she did it, but she just sat on the steps the whole time. It was like "Okay, I guess :umm:".

So basically, the greatness of the show lies in Janet keeping the show fresh by bringing new choreography to the songs, changing the set list, while maintaining elements that define "Janet Jackson". With more production (better wardrobe, visuals, etc), the show could've been so much better. I might need to re-watch the RN and janet. Tours, but as it stands, for me it's her best tour following TVR and RWU. I think I can now unmute Janet on Twitter, and raise my status from "casual listener" to "familiar with her work fan".

Good review. Ended Consequence of Sound.

  5. Y'all gonna be mad when y'all find out it's Rene Elizondo -_-

He’s the only one, aside from Janet, that would actually make these interviews interesting.

You know I wouldn't be mad. I'd listen to what he had to say. Rene more than anybody else especially during that time would know more than Jimmy, Terry, Tina, Shawnette, etc. Even her own family. But that ain't gonna happen because homeboy can't even utter Janet's name or he could be sued. And with her no nonsense lawyers they would be on it unless Janet okayed it.

Actually Janet said she was contractually obligated not to speak about their relationship, per Rene’s request. She’s just extremely private, so the deal was just fine for her. So really she could be sued if she talked about him.

  6. New music is always a good idea. But if for some reason there isn't, they'll have to be strategic with venues and routing. If there's no new music, I think festivals in Europe is the way to go. There are places like Australia where I believe she'll do well without new music.

That's too long! I thought maybe you went to UWT.

You and I both know she is not doing any festivals or promo for that matter. I agree that it’s a good idea as well, but we all know it won’t happen.

  7. Before she decides to record another album, I'd just like to see her overseas. Some arenas in Asia, Africa, and Oceania. Do some festivals in Europe and South America.

She needs new music before she goes overseas. Considering how she’s doing in North America, I foresee her doing much worse internationally. There’s no buzz for her at the moment and she needs to create anticipation. At the very least, she needs to release a new single.

  9. Oh really? Well according to your butt buddy Mr.Austin himself said.. 80% or more = Sold Out

Janet had dates that were over 80% :lmao:

If you wanna say that's not "SOLD OUT" then I guess your just gonna have to have a catfight with your pal in the dm's about that!

I am not Mr. Wonder. We do not share the same perspectives or opinions on everything. No, 80% is not a sell out to me. 100%is, and Janet hasn’t achieved that.

  10. Another random city

Las Vegas just had a mass shooting. I’m sure tourism is down. No promo either :coffee: c’mon people. This isn’t hard or a big deal. Move on

Austin is the fourth biggest city in Texas and the capital of Texas. How is it random? And Vegas wasn’t gonna be a sellout even before the mass shooting. Vegas is the entertainment capital of the world. That show should’ve sold out as soon as tickets were put on sale. It’s not even a big arena she played. Not being able to sell 8,000 tickets in Vegas after tickets were on sale for 5 months is terrible and embarrassing for an artist of her stature.
