This may come as a surprise to you, but there does exist a world of Janet fans outside of Planet Janet. My comment was not made exclusively to Planet Janet. I've seen many fans, some of whom have accounts on here, say she has nothing left to prove and doesn't need to promote. That it's about the music. But what those fans and anyone else this applies to fails to realize is that yes, the music is the most important part, but it's still a business no matter which way you all try to slice it. When you are trying to sell something or get people interested in you, you have to promote, plain and simple. Janet's career has had more downs than ups the last 12 years. Someone in Janet's position cannot sell simply on her name. That's just a reality. Her brand has been affected so greatly that that privilege just isn't afforded to her anymore. She has to do what most contemporary artists do and engage. Janet playing this mystique role of doing no press and barely showing herself hasn't done her any favors whatsoever. 

Fans and Janet believed/believe that she can sell on her name alone. That may work in the United States but not overseas, where she hasn't done an arena tour in almost 20 years and haven't had a hit there in almost as long. Even artists who are huge in Europe still promote that they're coming there. It's no surprise that the ticket sales for most dates in Europe were a complete disaster just weeks before the European tour was to begin. And I'm certain that if this tour does resume, she'll just make 10 second videos from her bed and thinks that's gonna sell tickets. Bookmark this.

Oh I'm certain Beyoncé doesn't care what you bitter souls think about her thriving, successful career. Don't give yourself too much. I have just as much of a right to respond to your nonsense opinions, as you do to make them. And I'm not going anywhere. I get exactly what I need from this forum, the biggest being the satisfaction of knowing that unlike many of you, I'm secure with Janet's position. 

And what you say about her won't stop her from being the HBIC that she is. So what's the point??

No, I don't need glasses. I fully understood your grammatically challenged, nonsense post. What was the point in even perpetuating an argument by saying why some photo of them wasn't released? Who cares about a photo being released besides you bitter fools? If they actually met and spoke to one another, that far outweighs a picture being taken and released. And many celebs have gone backstage to Janet's shows without a picture being released. You insinuated that a pic of Beyoncé wasn't released due to personal reasons on Janet's part, which is pure jealousy and paranoia on the parts of many of you.

She's already likeable enough. Critics and Concert Boxscore attests to this. And I didn't personally call you insecure, but a hit dog will holler.

Just like you assumed that Janet didn't meet Beyoncé when you don't know shit and how people in here assume a picture wasn't taken just because one wasn't released. None of you can even get a picture of Janet these days, yet you think you know what she does backstage. Comical. And you're an idiot if you think Janet and Beyoncé didn't meet backstage. You have B and C-list stars who have gotten backstage access to Janet, yet you expect me to believe one of the biggest artists in the world today couldn't? Your envy blinds you and amuses me.

Again, just because a picture wasn't released doesn't mean one wasn't taken. And even if a picture wasn't taken, it still doesn't mean Beyoncé and Janet didn't meet and talk in her dressing room. It's clear many of you are envious of Bey and the fact unlike Janet, she can complete a tour in 2016. Bashing Bey won't make the Breakable tour a reality. You all are on a fan forum of one of the biggest pop artists of all time displaying such pathetic insecurity. Embarrassing.

Um...maybe because Janet didn't want it to be? Just because a picture wasn't released, doesn't mean one wasn't taken. You have to be an idiot to think that Beyoncé would scour around backstage just to take a pic with a couple of kids. The fact that she was even given such access backstage suggests that Janet does indeed "use" her. Otherwise, she wouldn't have even allowed her backstage.

How do you know Janet didn't take a pic with Bey? Were you there? Did you get backstage access like Bey did to verify this claim?

I have the download. It's on Janetmedia from 2008 with Ryan Seacrest under the Radio Interviews section. The whole interview is split into 3 parts and the part where she talks about Celine is in part 2, I believe. She also mentions Mariah and Madonna.

She said in an interview with Ryan Seacrest in 2008 that she met her for the first time not that long ago. So some time before 2008.

It's not about it being a big project, it's about it being a poorly executed project. Janet says this album is a "new movement," yet she never actually explains the movement from her own mouth. If she was trying to start some socially conscious movement, you at least have to be visual and gage your audience. And that's why this album is forgotten by the general public. She dropped her own ball. And I never said the album wasn't great. It's her best since The Velvet Rope. But she did not execute the roll-out of this album well. And I'm going to be vocal about it. And if you're making grandiose statements such as "a new movement," I'm expecting more than the little we have gotten.

I did. Grossing only $15 million from 33 shows is abysmal. Especially considering some artists can generate an average of over of a million for one show.

Of course I don't personally know you, nor do I want to. All I can judge you off of is what you put out there. Therefore, my analysis of you was correct.

So you had low expectations? Well that's your problem. Some fans actually expect their favorite artist to work to their fullest potential, and clearly Janet hasn't. 

Oh yes you are. Don't give yourself too much. You're not that complex to figure out. In viewing your posts since becoming a member on here, I can see that you are rather incorrigible and your fervent loyalty to Janet has blinded you. You scoff at any real constructive criticism given toward Janet (like how you're doing now), by continuously stating the obvious. Yes, we know Janet had a #1 album. Yes, we know Janet is pregnant. Those things are wonderful. But that #1 album was also poorly promoted and it's total WW sales are abysmal. That could have been rectified had Janet made better choices with her career. Janet's pregnancy is great, yet the way she handled it was unprofessional. She cancelled this tour in April, yet she still has yet to actually announce a pregnancy and give fans a legitimate explanation as to why their funds are being held in limbo. A tweet or two saying she misses fans does not remedy the situation. She has shitted on fans, especially European fans, for far too long to just give out a few tweets. And she expects fans to buy more tickets to see her next year? The cold distance from fans she is displaying will not do her in any favors. She needs to completely rebrand herself to get people interested in her again, but she has no interest in that. 

So with all that said, it's pretty obvious which side of the coin you're own. And many fans are disappointed, including you. "You can't run away from your pain, because wherever you run, there you will be."

That's nice for you, but I personally don't care about sparing the feelings of fans by biting my tongue. I have supported Janet for years by buying her albums, merchandise and paying to see her 5 times. That alone warrants me to not only have an opinion on Janet's career, but express it at my leisure. If some fans don't like what I have to say, it's their problem. I'm confident with where my heart lies when it comes to Janet.

Janet is the main reason for the dissension within the Janet fan community. You have two sides of the coin: on one side you have the fans who doesn't hold her accountable for any of her faults and loves everything she does, then you have the small minority of fans who will be honest and offer constructive criticism of Janet. The differing perspectives leads to clashing, which leads to dissension and that in turn, leads to this fan base looking dysfunctional. The root to all of this, however, is Janet and her seemingly poor handling of her career within the last 15 years. And most of the fans who call honest fans "fake" are disappointed themselves in Janet, but won't admit it due to their loyalty to her. 

Miss You Much is played during the upcoming Barack and Michelle Obama biopic, "Southside With You" in theaters August 26th. The song will also be featured on the film's accompanying soundtrack.
