This will be her first time performing in the country of Morocco. Mawazine ("Rhythms") is a festival of world music that began in 2001 and takes place annually, featuring Arab and international music icons. In years past, the festival has featured superstars such as Sting, Shakira, Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, Kanye West, Kylie Minogue, Joe Cocker, Sugababes, and Elton John. In addition to Mariah, this year's roster includes LMFAO and Scorpions. Here is the official press release from the festival's website (roughly translated from French): To close the 11th annual Mawazine Festival, global star Mariah Carey, with her extraordinary voice, will sing her songs on the scene of the OLM Souissi on Saturday, May 26, 2012. This famous American diva likes Morocco and does not hide it. Impassioned by the Moroccan culture, the singer made installed a Moroccan living room in her apartment in New York, in which her current husband, Nick Cannon, proposed to her. In its honor and homage to this happy memory, they named one of their twins Moroccan Scott in April 2011. It is thus natural that she is enthusiastic to be in Rabat, where it is common to very seldom play in music festivals. The aspect of this concert that will attract many fans is that this artist is famous not only in Morocco, but abroad. She received innumerable rewards such as 5 Grammy Awards, 11 American Music Awards, 28 Billboard Music Awards, 2 American Heroes Awards, Rolling Stone Award, 17 World Music Award. Mariah Carey is a singer, producer and American actress born in the United States in 1970. Her exceptional voice is equipped with the talent to sing 5 octaves. She is one of the most popular female singers of the 1990s in the United States and it is often quoted like one of the most influential voices and artists in pop music. She is the writer and interpreter of songs which ensured international success. Her career started with odd jobs in New York. She met the producer Tommy Mottola, and he heard the songs she recorded. The man is sure to have discovered a revelation. He quickly had her sign a contract of 10 albums with his recording company, Sony Music. Her success began in 1990 and 1991 with the release of the two albums: Mariah Carey and Emotions. Mariah Carey, who not coincidentally has her own hit called “Fantasy,” joined Disney executives for the launch in New York Harbor on Thursday. The glamorous star, who was named the ship’s “fairy godmother,” was escorted by Mickey Mouse into the grand foyer, where she introduced her husband Nick Cannon, who was on the deck with Minnie Mouse. With Goofy, Pluto, and the rest of the Disney characters by her side, the pop superstar counted down to the christening before Minnie broke a champagne bottle on the boat’s side. “I christen thee Disney Fantasy. The happy couple celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary by renewing their vows on Friday night in Paris. With the Eiffel Tower in the background, Nick got down on one knee and re-proposed to his wife and mother of his twins. After exchanging vows, they dined at Le Jules Verne restaurant on the Eiffel Tower. The 42-year-old pop diva was glowing in a white fishtail dress with spaghetti straps, while her husband looked sharp in a white suit and black tie. “Tonight was an incredible night, I can’t express how amazing it was to renew our vows in Paris at the top of the Eiffel tower,” tweeted Mariah. “Thank you so much to all the fans who came out as always and showed their love and support. I love you!” The two have been through a lot in the past year, including the birth of their twins Monroe and Moroccan, who turn one on Monday, and Nick’s recent health scare. They arrived in France by private jet early on Friday and were spotted shopping at Dior and Louis Vuitton on the Champs-Elysees.
