  1. Umm, this interview was basically an exclusive. Very few of facts that Kelly covered were known until now. I've not heard anywhere else that story about Night, and I'm sure several of us that were curious went back and checked the credits. The original track for Night was probably written by Michaela Shiloh, whom also worked with Janet on Make Me... a project that didn't involve Jimmy or Terry (and IMO her best cut away from J &T). Shiloh is only 24 now, which means when she did Make Me with Janet, she was only 16 or 17!!!
  2. So Jimmy Jam also said that they're "not done yet" with Unbreakable. Does that mean that Night could possibly be a next single??
  3. Janet definitely doesn't need to be a social media artist. She's a music icon and living legend. Honestly, I feel for today's stars. Janet ruled the game in a blessed era where artists were still able to make money from album sales. Today's artists are lucky if even a miniscule fraction of all those thirsty followers are willing to actually invest in them by buying an album. Save for a few artists like Adele, Drake and Taylor Swift, they are dependent on grueling tours just to break even and have a next project. Meanwhile Janet's Unbreakable era has thus far produced an historic Number 1 Adult R&B Single, and a Number 1 album. She's out-selling many of the younger artists that have millions of so-called "fans".
  4. Of all the press, Janet has leaked the most info to ET during this era. She HAD to clap back against all these rumors that she was falling apart during this pregnancy. Come through Ms. Jackson Al Mana... COME THROUGH!!! http://janetbrsite.tumblr.com/post/133133760472/unbreakable-gifs-p-by-janetbr
  5. For most Millennials (like myself), it's tough to understand BHH, mostly because we don't have 40 years worth of Jackson family context. That "slow build" development isn't just a disco feel, it's a particular song-- Don't Stop Till You Get Enough from Michael Jackson's Off the Wall. What people forget is that Janet helped to create this song with her big brother Michael. She played percussion on the demo that Michael sent in to Quincy Jones. That's why it's so special to her, and (I assume) why should choose it in particular to construct BHH. It's a way of reminding the world that Michael's legacy lives on through the whole Jackson family. Check out that Demo tape, then listen to BHH. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2IzJihXPEM
  6. Couldn't agree more! From listening through the songs, this seems totally intentional. She basically takes us on a Janet JACKSON tour. The "Jackson" is in all caps, because this really feels like the closest she has come musically to the rest of her family, via Unbreakable, Dream Maker/ Euphoria and Gon' B Alright. But then you also have the different lanes that Unbreakable travels down... Burn It Up!-- the classic 'get down and dance' lane (think AFY) Dammn Baby-- the 'get down and dance, but with a message' lane (Control, RN and TVR) The Great Forever-- reflecting brother Michael's message. Shoulda Known Better-- a look back on her RN legacy After You Fall-- kinda new territory, especially how exposed the vocals are. I guess you could equate it to circa Janet era, aka Again, but it goes deeper. Broken Hearts Heal-- a dedication to brother Michael, and to the strength of the family. Night-- a classic, CRUCIAL Janet, Jimmy and Terry get down jam session. MINNEAPOLIS!! No Sleeep-- the essential "Quiet Storm" lane that has ruled on Every. Single. Album. From Funny How Time Flies, to Lonely, to Anytime Anyplace, these songs are ageless. This is why even a year later, I can't get enough of this album. For a true Janet Jackson fan, Unbreakable is like the DNA of her whole career.
  7. Same here I was really introduced to Janet Jackson through TVR. I was 15 when it came out, and couldn't believe that a pop artist was so bold with their music. I didn't really discover Janet's other albums until 10 years later. I listened to the first half of RN and by the time Livin' In A World came on, I was crying. Artists just don't do what Janet, Jimmy and Terry do anymore. All of the albums are great, but RN was simply a masterpiece. Exactly why 27 years later it sounds and feels so relevant.
  8. Is there an acapella version of Trust a Try somewhere?
  9. This story bubbled up from the blog under belly in 2015 also. No truth to it.
  10. Thanks in part to a share by THE Jimmy Jam, this post has gone viral over the last few days. Do you think there's a case to be made for Janet Jackson's appeal for Millennials? https://texasleftist.com/2016/09/janet-jackson-the-first-millennial/
  11. I'm going to create a separate thread, but as Janet's fans, we should organize some 'targeted celebration' for Unbreakable's 1yr anniversary. It SHOULD be up for several Grammy nominations, depending on how and what was submitted on the Grammy ballot. Here's the scoop... Recording Academy members will be receiving their 1st round ballots in mid-October , and they have three weeks or so to turn them in. It would be great to see Janet's team do some pushing, but even if they don't we can sure help get Unbreakable "in the air" by putting a new round of comments on articles, and sharing tracks via social media. IMO Jimmy, Terry and Janet deserve a Producer of the Year nomination for this album. It's the best produced album R&B has seen in years, mostly because of the quality of the songs and careful attention to detail. I'll create the new thread, but please consider throwing some hype for Unbreakable!!
  12. Here's the info from Twitter... https://twitter.com/tdroberson74/status/728576781909950464
  13. So the Dammn Baby video has finally arrived, and for Janet fans, it did NOT disappoint. But her new single is NOT getting played on the radio!! Stations across the country are refusing to put Ms. Jackson on the air. While other artists' new singles have rocketed immediately into heavy rotation, stations are silent on Dammn Baby. Please call, text, tweet and facebook your local stations and #RequestJanet!! Let's get Dammn Baby out into the world! Is anyone hearing the song played?? If so what stations?
  14. I love the title track!! Such a breezy and beautiful dedication to the true fans, and it really set the tone for a mellow, soul-inspired album. And the Outro OMG!!! It basically functions as Unbreakable's only Interlude, and really gives fans a sense that this is a Janet Jackson record the way WE know Janet Jackson records. Sure she's grown and changed since Discipline, but she's still her.
  15. This GIF is giving me L-I-F-E!! I can't wait for the Dammn Baby video!! It would be so great to get Miss Jackson a number 1 on the Dance Charts. Were it to happen, this would be Janet's 20th number 1 on that chart (after Make Me in 2010). As her loyal fans, we can help make this happen!! When the video comes out, be sure to play it on Vevo and YouTube, and stream the song on Spotify and Apple Music. All of this will help bump Janet up on the charts, and it's easy to do if you already own the song.
  16. What amazes me about Control is that the songs feel pretty close to current even today. Pop radio in the Teens has made a big swing back towards sounds of the 80s and 90s. And if Control feels close to current, RN sounds stuff that's not even out yet. I took two of our high school choir members home from church, and in my car mix State of the World came on. They were like, "This song is really good!" then got their phones out to Shazam it, and they were like, "wait, Janet Jackson"?? People seriously don't even know.
  17. Can't get enough of Night... just a classic mix of House and get down FUNK. After that, I'd say the title track, then Dammn Baby and The Great Forever. I love the Middle Eastern flavors of Burn It UP and the No Sleep AfSHEEN mix too tho.
  18. It's not something I'd post away from a community like this, but I did find the humor in the titles. At the end of the day, it's a net positive that Janet is getting lots of press for the story. She was trending on Twitter for a good chunk of the day after the message hit. This would be a great time to release the video for Dammn Baby because she's at the top of the news cycle. Here's hoping! And as for TMZ, I did tweet them to ask for an update on their story.
  19. Sorry but the TMZ vid had me CRACKING UP with the alternative song titles!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QreIAI6zoLA&nohtml5=False
  20. Control didn't just launch Janet's career... it put Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis on the map as well. For the rest of the 80s through the early 90s, the best RnB music being produced was either by Jam and Lewis, modeled after Jam and Lewis, or in response to Jam and Lewis. Janet's Control served as a pioneer and spotlight to their talent. Control paved the way for the success of artists like Paula Abdul, Karyn White, Jody Watley and Vanessa Williams, whom all borrowed or modeled after the original. It's also why Control is credited as one of the first albums of the New Jack Swing sound. If you go back and listen to Control, then compare it Watley's Looking for a New Love, Williams' The Right Stuff, you can hear how they borrowed the same sounds. I think Control, RN and TVR are all groundbreaking, but in different way. Control had the greatest impact on music. RN had the greatest impact on Society and Pop Culture. TVR was a personal opus for Janet (and all of us).
  21. I guess I'm lucky having actually seen the Unbreakable Tour in New Orleans, and for my money I'd be happy to see it again whether 2017, 2018 or beyond. She does all of her biggest hits and only a couple of the songs were from Unbreakable. The back and forth has been frustrating, but I sincerely hope that she is successful with the family plans. And maybe, just maybe the Dammn Baby video will still be released!! Why not generate a hit song for fans while we wait??
  22. Has anyone received an email from Live Nation? I've got a ticket for the Austin show (May 26th), but haven't received word of anything yet. It may be taking longer than expected to work things out with the venues and make sure the dancers, band and crew are all compensated for their time. But yes, eventually I expect a refund. We spent real money for this show, and I expect to have it refunded.
  23. So this ad for Empire showed up yesterday, and I Dammn near lost it. Could Janet and Missy show on sometime this season?? Similar to Fresh Off the Boat, members of the Empire Cast are always showing some love to Janet Jackson. And of course Missy and Timbaland are thick as thieves. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dje6KWfiOuU&feature=youtu.be&app=desktop
