so would we say that Kelis changed the face of music with her debut albums, she did put The Neptunes on the map? or would we say that she brought some new energy to music that she still does not get credit for ( :sigh: )?

I would argue that Kelis has much more of an influence on pop culture and music than Aaliyah did. People just don't recognize her. :filenails:

She could have but it wouldn't get as much credit because she was always such a lowkey, low scale artist in the industry. She made alot of noise ON RECORD but not in the industry unfortunately.so ppl would easily overlook her influence

Exactly. She was always ahead of her time with everything. She was in control of her image and sound. Every project was thought out completely and appealed to her. She never let anyone control her career the way Brandy did and didn't rely on basic producers (Monica, Mya, etc). Aaliyah laid the template for people like Rihanna to get success off of. "Rated R" is the cheap version of what Aaliyah's next album would've been.

oh you definitely tried it, but I would have to agree with you there. -_-

I dont follow Kelis fa real but I will say was more daring but there's no song that standouts to ppl to where they could say "Hey..she changed the face of music, right here". You can do that with Aaliyah, easily.

Wasn't that waaaay later after Neptunes sound was already identiable and popular? Im talking about her introducing their sound. She has no starting mark to claim that...thats why it went unnoticed

Kelis says her 2003 hit "Milkshake" helped change music for women singers amid the recent release of her fifth studio album, the dance-oriented Flesh Tone.

"I hate to toot my horn, but if you look at where music was as far females and what's Top 40 radio and whatever, where it was before "Milkshake," versus after, I mean you kind of have to be retarded to deny that it literally changed female vocalists," she told the Associated Press.

Talk to Kelis about that. :coffee:

the world just wasnt ready for her. god forbid a black girl be angry and very opinionated at the time. Rihanna is definitely lucky she came out when she did.

She does that's why Caught Out There had some success (peaking at 4 in the UK) and that's why The Neptunes started to get labels after them to produce for other pop stars

Milkshake was just the icing on the cake

Exactly. Because if Rihanna tried to act all 'hard' back in 1999, she'd be selling ass on a Barbados street corner. :coffee:

I think Kelis was TOO ahead of her time and the world NEVER caught up ..so it worked more against her than for her unfortunately.

You still never gave me a reason as to why something that was NEW,fresh, innovative, ahead of its time...and later influenced what you heard on radio is not considered changing the FACE.

im still waiting on this :lmao: cuz if thats not changing face...what on earth is? I mean really
