Lana Del Rey 'Born' Atop U.K. Album Chart

The meteoric worldwide success of Lana Del Rey's debut album "Born To Die" extended to the U.K. on Sunday (Feb. 5), when it debuted at No. 1 with sales of 117,000, more than the rest of the top five combined. French artist-DJ David Guetta celebrated his two Grammy and one BRIT Award nominations by climbing 2-1 on the singles chart with "Titanium," featuring Sia.

It was announced last Wednesday (Feb. 1) that "Born To Die" had hit No. 1 on the iTunes album chart in 15 countries. In the U.K., Del Rey's 117,000 opening sales included 50,000 digitally, and she's in the singles top 40 with two tracks from the album: the title track climbed 14-9 yesterday and her debut hit "Video Games," which debuted at No. 9 in October, jumped back 20-17, with total sales now standing at nearly 292,000 units, according to the Official Charts Company.

^ And it begins... She's having great success right across Europe and Oz. The album will most likely debut at number one next week on our charts as well.

^_^

I am going to be sooooo pressed when the US charts are updated this week. :umm:

Fuckin Adele is keeping everyone from #1. So far I've been happy for ol' girl, but this week, not so much.

Talk about greedy. It's time for Adele to loosen the reins a little and give Lana her moment to shine. :asham:

Lana Del Rey Debuts at No. 2 on Billboard 200 Albums Chart

Much talked-about singer/songwriter Lana Del Rey makes her expected arrival at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart with "Born To Die," selling 77,000 copies according to Nielsen SoundScan. It's the highest entry for a female artist's full-length major label debut since Jackie Evancho's "Dream With Me" bowed at No. 2 on July 2, 2011.

Meanwhile, Adele's "21" sits tight at No. 1 for a 19th nonconsecutive week (122,000; up 5%). Next week it could yield the top slot to the new Van Halen album "A Different Kind of Truth," which was released yesterday (Feb. 7).

BORN TO SELL LIKE HOTCAKES: Lana Del Rey's Born to Die debuted at #1 in half a dozen countries, including France, Britain and Germany, selling a total of 800k units worldwide, according to Interscope. Additionally, LDR’s videos have now registered 80 million views, the number rising by 10 million every week. If the controversy surrounding Del Rey can result in numbers like these, it’ll behoove the majors to try to sign more acts capable of polarizing the media and consumers to a similar degree of intensity—you can’t buy that kind of exposure. (2/14a)
