True Life: I'm An "Artist Formerly Known As "Janet Jackson" Fan

At CBS' Super Bowl media day, when it came to a question about picking this year's halftime talent, CBS Corp. president and CEO Leslie Moonves couldn't help but joke about years past.

“I actually wanted Janet Jackson,” Moonves jested, to an audience of chuckling media members. He was referring to 2004 performance when Jackson and Justin Timberlake played a dangerous game of peek-a-boo on national television.

The joke went over well with the audience and it seems everyone is walking with a little more pep in their step nine years removed from the incident (a $550,000 fine by the FCC was later overturned and an FCC appeal rejected).

It could also be because Beyoncé and her BeyHive will swarm the stage at halftime of Super Bowl XLVII in the Superdome. This will be the first musically-relevant artist to headline the Super Bowl since the Janet and Justin debacle.

If the stars are aligned and her hubby Jay-Z makes a guest appearance this could be the greatest halftime show ever, making viewers say, “Janet and Justin, who?”

Just a quick history of Janet's legend-ness:

2005

NEW YORK - The NFL wanted a safe halftime show after last year’s Janet Jackson fiasco, and Paul McCartney delivered.

2006

Reflecting on Janet Jackson's bare breast at the Super Bowl two years ago, someone asked whether the Stones would try something "provocative and edgy." Richards replied: "Got any ideas?"

2007

So the NFL had no repeat of the 2004 Janet Jackson/Justin Timberlake show, which happened the last time CBS broadcast the game.

2008

But throughout the performance, the shadow of Janet Jackson’s nipple hovered over the stage. It was a tiny nipple, but a huge shadow. And it served to remind what an absurd overreaction followed the misguided stunt involving Jackson and Justin Timberlake during the now infamous Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show.

2009

Five years have passed since the fateful day in Houston when, with the help of Justin Timberlake, Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunctioned, revealing, in part, her nipple and, in whole, a puritan streak that has clouded subsequent Super Bowl halftime affairs.

2010

Such predictability has been a staple of the halftime show since the infamous Janet Jackson/Justin Timberlake performance of 2004.

2011

The choice of the Black Eyed Peas was intended to bring some youthful vigor back to the halftime show after the NFL - feeling burned by the infamous "wardrobe malfunction" of Janet Jackson with the aid of Justin Timberlake in 2004 - chose a string of safe, near-geriatric icons for the halftime for the next six years, ending on a low note with a much-maligned concert by The Who last year.

I guess they don't remember that Madonna performance from last year and her fans love to brag about how it was the most viewed half time show ever. *giggals* Janet Jackson wins again.

That's all it was, and will ever be. Every halftime show is second to Janet's.

You can still access the board unless you've been IP banned, which I don't think Angie does cuz it's not that serious. So he's been copying and pasting stuff and passing it off as his own. It's almost sad that people lack creativity and edge. I mean, I've been doing these threads for 4 years....plus. So I think where he is and where he's going, I've already been. :coffee:
