Bailey
I can see where you got this idea, enlightenment and expansion as an artist, artistically speaking TVR is the album Janet did the best on artistically, now Janet. was her best commercial go at it

RedSimba
I was gonna say Butterfly, and even most of MOAIA (yeah I went there again. "Betcha," "H.A.T.E.U.," "It's A Wrap," "Angels Cry," "Languishing"). Also Kanye's 808s & Heartbreak.
eli's_rhythm
I don't think this is an exact fit for your criteria. It's not really autobiographical. Aimee Mann wrote about half of it for a movie soundtrack. However, it's brilliant. She makes it FEEL autobiographical... her emotion and her voice, both as a singer and a songwriter, are what bring this album to life. It's definitely one of my all-time favorites, which is weird, as I don't really like much else in this nichey singer-songwriter-coffeehouse genre. It's lyrically awesome and every song has a unique, sticky melody.

Utopia
Brandy's "Afrodisiac" ? Not at all , the closest it gets for Brandy is Human and that's reaching. Brandy doesn't have an album about her personal struggles, she does have some songs about it though with Human and Acapella being the key tracks as for the thread even the covers are autobiographic
Utopia
and these 90% of the indie acoustic artists only write about what they feel and use the music as a diary All Rosie's albums are about her struggles , i just post this one cuz it's my fav
