According to Linda Perry...

I really feel like the public has been too hard on Christina Aguilera this past year. Do you think it’s a case of society wanting to tare someone down only to build them back up because the public loves a comeback story?

Christina’s always had the bad rap. So, it’s not like this is happening all of a sudden… she’s always had it. That’s something between Christina, her fans, the public, and the energy of the world. That’s something only Christina and the energy can figure out what’s going on there. But, as far as I’ve known her, everybody’s always given her a hard time. She’s a different little bird. You know, she’s not really out a lot and when she does go out, people are gonna grab things. Like, is she running around as much as Britney Spears was a few years ago? No, she’s isn’t. But, when they catch her they catch her in whatever state she is in. I don’t know why the press is so hard on her right now. I think Christina’s awesome and a very talented person. She definitely doesn’t care — and that is a fact. You know how some people say “I don’t care” and they really do? I can tell you that Christina really doesn’t care…. because she learned very early on that critics are critics, people will say whatever they want and it’s up to her to decide what is the truth and what is not. She stands true to what she knows.

Like, she told me “I know this Bionic record is not going to be a big record because I’m gonna try and do some different things and I don’t know what’s gonna happen but this is what I wanna do…” She knew that before she recorded one thing. She knew that about Back to Basics, too. Her record company came to her and said “you’re gonna sell way more many records if you make this a single album. Let’s get rid of the double record.” And she said, “No, this is how I hear it. I hear one record being like this and the other record being like this.” Everybody warned her that it’s not going to sell as much but she didn’t care because she comes up with creative ideas and stands behind them as an artist. It’s not all about selling a bazillion records to her. She just wants to be able to stand behind it. In the end she did say to me, “Maybe I did release the Bionic record too soon. Oh well. Now, I wanna make a rock record! I was like “Oh, God!” She’s gonna take everybody for a ride. So, ultimately, why she gets put down I don’t know. You’ll never know, I’ll never know, only Christina will ever figure that out and get the answer.

Christina Christina Christina ...you make me wanna pull my fuckin hair out!

She annoys the fuck outta me with this "imma try this and see if it sticks" shit. Be your TRUE AUTHENTIC SELF!

Sadly I dont even think she knows who she is as an artist anymore. Her identity in her music is tapering off more and more.

The problem is IDK what you would really consider the "authentic" Christina. Shes spent her career doing alot of stuff. having said that I think a rock direction could work just as long as it incorporates other genres.

+1!

She tries to hard to be something she isn't. She needs to get into the studio and let it come out naturally. Though people though Stripped was overated I do think that was her being true to her.

Something thats believable and doesn't seem like an "act" to fit in with whats goin on with music. When she tries to be innovative and risky it just doesn't seem to connect and thats why her status has plummeted. STRIPPED was believable..I felt it..she felt it..the public believed it. She seem to has lost her way now. She's just tryna see what will stick.

^^^Rock is a huge genre. They're more accepting of artists than pop.

I'm talking about her followers. She has no stable fan base because she keeps trying to be a chameleon. And not only does it lead to commercial failure, it is a terrible move as an artist because it obviously is forced. Bubblegum Pop to an eclectic mix to Old Jazz and then Electropop, and now to Rock? She's as much of a gimmick as GaGa except she's wasting her talent.

yeah i can see getting inspiration from different sounds but.....mmmm...NO! she's trying too hard, she just needs to take time for herself she just went through a divorce, she fucked up the national anthem, she got fat, lmfaooooo she needs to take like 2-3 yrs off and just be christina aguilera the person, not the singer

Some of yall are making it seem like she should try to revive that Bubblegum Pop sound she first came out with. I'm happy she wants to do a Rock album...I'm sick and tired of turning on the Pop radio station and 95% of the songs played within an hour sounding like a remix or 2.0 of the last song played :sigh:

oh hell no, i didnt like britney or nsync until they left that whole bubblegum shit, but it does seem like she is just running out of ideas she hasnt really had a break since everything in her life has happened, and the last thing i want is her going all crazy like everyone else seems to be doing

The thing about Xtina is she doesn't have her own sound. So this whole I'm going to try this and that doesn't matter. She doesn't have a sound that people will instantly hear and say "OOP! That's Xtina!". Chile! Even Ciara has her own sound that people will recognize.

You'd be surprised at how many non-fans I've met who LOVE "Fighter", arguably her best rock song to date. That doesn't include the many fans, such as myself, who live for that song. Her music definitely isn't forced because she has always been experimental with her sound. Stripped, if you listen closely, is R&B, Pop, Rock, Soul, Jazz, Latin, and touches of Hip-Hop. Back To Basics was the same - R&B, Jazz, R&B/Gospel fusion, Big Band, and some Pop. The material is all pretty consistent, it's just the music (or genre if you will) is different. Bionic is the definition of forced imo. She didn't want to do that electro/pop shit and she knew it. RCA made her do it. Itaintwork. But even though the genre was electro/pop, the material (lyrical content, themes, etc) was still very much so "Xtina".

Well wouldn't you try your hardest to try to come up with a route to go after your last era got heavily criticized for "copying" a newbie even though you've been there, done that? (I myself would go Gospel -_-) Bionic could have done a lil bit better with better single choices, but those Gaga comparisons are what did her in...not to mention she was trying to shade Gaga about it.
