  1. How about "Black Cat," "This Time," and "What About"? Those songs aren't extremely demanding but they do show that Janet can pull off a rock-influenced song. I think she did What About live at the VR Tour, or it could have been pre-recorded.
  2. I've had this song stuck in my head for a few days now:
  3. I absolutely enjoy the title track; I think it's my favourite on the album. I love hearing Janet's voice through the chorus, I can tell she's feeling what she's singing. That one song is better than ANYTHING on Discipline. It's a 10 for me.
  4. Hopefully this one comes out unlike some of her last producing projects.
  5. I feel like Prince is the type to focus mostly on himself. This memoir should be interesting though
  6. Cute song. I think I gave it too high of a rating though. Eve is another one of those artists whose popularity severely declined after the mid-2000s. But she's happily married, so all the best to her.
  7. Nelly has really fallen off the map in recent years. She was so big from 06-07, but with Timbaland's sound being dated (a bit) and her being gone for so long, I think public interest in her has declined seriously. She usually gets big time work when she does "We Day" up here in Canada.
  8. This was amazing to be honest. I really hope she releases the HD official footage of this tour and all the others (including the VR and AFY tours) and doesn't leave it to the side like she has for so long. Again, this was amazing footage! Thanks for this hard work
  9. "Thank You" also should have lasted a bit longer. It's such a nice, mellow song. I'm excited to see the top 10
  10. I feel that "Don't Tell Me" could have lasted a bit longer. I like the song; it's probably the closest to country music I'll ever get.
  11. I don't know why I haven't posted on this yet, but I'm a huge Janet fan and I joined this site in March of this year after looking through the whole place for about a week. I love reading, writing, video games, Popeye's and just about anything that's fun. I was born and raised in Canada; my parents' background is Ghanaian. I'm thinking of majoring in political science in Uni and minoring in writing/literature courses. Then I'll probably apply to law school.
  12. Now that I look back, I feel that I gave a lot of these songs too high of a rating. "Loverboy" and "Hero" should have stayed a bit longer.
  13. Where are these photos? I've never seen them before.
  14. And honestly, no one has done it as effortlessly as Janet did.
  15. I was first introduced to Janet when I was three. My family would play the Control album and I fell in love! This was also the same time I started liking MJ as we had a lot of his music videos on VHS. I remember being so interested in the Bad and Remember the Time music videos. The love for Janet blossomed from there and I've been a fan ever since. She became my fave as soon as the Control album finished playing. I'd beg my dad to play it over and over (he preferred Mariah's "Emotions" album) and get sad when he didn't.
  16. I feel that Janet has pretty much nailed all of her album covers, but if I had to switch covers, it'd be The Velvet Rope's original cover for this one: She looks extremely beautiful in this picture, I think.
  17. It's a tragedy that only Control got an AOTY nod. But I think it's because Control was her breakthrough album and it surprised everybody at the time that there was a Jackson other than Michael who could potentially stand on their own two feet in the business. Still, it's an injustice that TVR didn't get an AOTY nod. I think the only Grammy it won was for the GTIG video. You can see that the Grammys were a lot less giving with their awards back in the 80's and 90's
  18. Just sent mine. Nice to listen to all the old songs again. A lot of 7's and 8's with me. 2001 was an OK year for music
  19. It can be hard to say because we don't have data to back up any arguments and some of the young ones are especially ignorant uncultured when it comes to the people who have come before their time. I do think that, in the music context (and probably the whole world of celebrity), Janet succeeds at being recognized by just her first name. Like others have stated though, her last name will always be a part of who she is as a celebrity, and it's part of one of her most famous quotes. If most people do need to hear her last name in order to have an idea of who she is (they probably are young or don't know much about pop culture), I don't think that detracts from her as her own artist.
  20. This is such a hot mess! Janet's ability to possibly tour in the future will be unlikely now that her reputation is in shambles. The worst part of it all is that it appears to be her fault, for the most part anyway. Janet's drive to excel, be a trendsetter and one of the overall best entertainers ever has dwindled starting from 2004 (she still hasn't properly chronicled and archived her glory days on DVD and YouTube). The last time Janet did an arena world tour and actually completed it was with The Velvet Rope tour in '98. Almost 20 years ago.
  21. I heard on my local news channel as soon as I got home. I thought it was another fishy postponement. But after watching the video, and feeling a bit sad for a second, I'm really happy for JANET! I think she'll be a great mother; she gives off motherly vibes at times. I wish her all the best in the future. P.S.: that video will probably be one of the last times we see or hear from Janet for at least a year, I think
  22. It's extremely sad to have to look at something like this. This is JANET JACKSON we are talking about here. She should not be struggling so hard to sell tickets, especially with a career like hers. This alone should be a wake up call for everyone on her team. I mean, it's not even half filled, it seems. This is a date that's on the verge of cancellation, I feel
