First, he called up to Sesame Street and claimed he had sex with Kevin Clash, the voice of Elmo, when he was 16 years old. The news caused a media storm after it went public and Kevin decided to take a leave of absence from the show while the allegations were being investigated. A day later, Sheldon recanted his original story of underage sex and said that he was an adult when the sexual relationship took place.
