eli's_rhythm
The Velvet Rope & janet. are a tie, for me. The Velvet Rope gave us so much versatility, for Janet. "You," "What About," "Every Time," "Empty," "Got 'Til It's Gone;" she was showing emotion in a way that she never fully had before. It was beautiful. janet. gave us her biggest flourishes. The high note in "Again." The high note in "Any Time, Any Place." The ad libs in "Where Are You Now." She wasn't quite at her vocal peak (I think she reached her peak in the mid-'90s, during DOAD), but it was a lovely juxtaposition of womanly sensuality and girlish innocence. Which has always been her charm.
